what makes a ea82t engine die?
Samo, I believe you are right. Man these engines take a alot of crap...but the turbo seems to kill the 3rd cylinder. I have two ea82ts with the same exact problem with the 3rd cylinder...it's the closest one to the turbo and isn't it the furthest in the fuel rail?

Any thoughts on AWD vs. 4WD?
Can be lifted. Every subaru can be lifted...it's easier than any of the truck lifts.http://alliedarmament.homestead.com/

Murphy's First Headjob!
If you can, do the AT to 5speed swap and engine job at the same time. Just pull the engine and tranny at the same time...it's easier. You can put them back in at the same time.

Racer - or - Off Road
Race like this : or racer like this: Hah hah..that's my old car (the red one). Dude do what you want with your car...who cares what others think...your plan so far sounds good...who doesn't want nice sound and wheels! No Joke. More power to you.

Racer - or - Off Road
Anyways...there is a guy on the board WJM...he was into EA82t...he put a lot of effort into making one put out a lot of horsepower...someone help me out here...how much was it? In the 200hps wasn't it? The thing with engines is...the more power you make it put out, the less reliable it gets.

Racer - or - Off Road
Well if he has a lot of cash...sure keep that car as the Daily driver and buy a not as good looking off road car. We all know what happens to off road cars. Throwing a rod is when the rod that connects(connecting rod) the piston to the crank decides it can't take it anymore and breaks....subaru_styles' rod broke off from the crank and then the piston was shot down into the crank because it was fired off...then the rod got between the crank and engine block and busted it up as you see in the pic. Oh yeah, I remember those couple nights...staying up and trying to get the other engine into your car...

I know this won't help much, but my o2 LED has never blinked for me...off, on or running. Even if it was good or bad.

Throwout bearing problem - Help
Where are you getting your parts? I recomend NAPA. I assume you have the 4spd 4wd Tranny? All EA81 manual trannies have the same throwout bearings.

Racer - or - Off Road
Exhaust...open it up, but you have to mind emission laws. Intake...some people put a cone filter at the end of the MAF sensor. Good Tune Up... Good plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Those will free some horsepower... If you are wanting to use it for offroad...sell it and buy a car that isn't as nice...like a 87+turbo wagon that already has 4wd.

Racer - or - Off Road
Very nice car. As for lowered subarus...I'll refer this to subaru_styles (Brad). As for "Subie street racers" the only racing you're gunna be doing is how many football fields does it take to get going the speed limit. The newer gen subarus are fast(er) but not these. What people do, who like the EA82/EA81 body style is an engine swap. They put a new gen engine into the older gen body style. As for your car...very nice. That thing is pristine.

New Sube Owner
Hello Hotdog! I'm north of you in Eugene. As for that auto you have...make sure the fluid is good and well maintaned. These autos are the weakest part of Subaru, but keep it maintaned and you'll be golden. What some people end up doing with an auto is swapping it out with a manual tranny. It's fairly easy, direct bolt on, and even I can do it. you just need to know what to get. Which, I've done two...so I have a fairly good idea. Oh yeah, I know of 4 or so board members that live in medford or the surronding areas.

subie is gone

91 loyale floods
Try pulling the coil/fuel pump fuse and crank it for a while...it'll clear the gas out. As for cylinders 1 and 4? is it 1 and 4 like this 3[---]4 1[---]2 Front of car

Look what I just bought
LUCKY! I saw that engine on ebay...i was like WTF... I think it's crazy how the header connects in the front too.

Stubborn oil pan gaskets!!
I wire wheel mine...no problems...unless your wire wheel spins hella fast and acts more like a saw blade. Oh yeah, Brad, I remember that time when you were removing the gasket off of your wagon's oil pan...I thought you liked the wires shooting off into your bare leg? Justin.

Willing to help...
Hello everyone. I was just thinking of a way to give back to the USMB. I thought of a couple. If you are around eugene/springfield area and need mild to moderate mechanical help, I'm willing to help. If you need some minor welding or metal fab, I can do that too. Nothing major...like custom bumpers or lifts. (that'd have to cost ya). But yeah, if you need help, PM me.

Full-time 4WD questions
Center differential is the only difference, I believe. Oh,....and it's FULL TIME all wheel drive. As for parts, I think the only thing you might need is the driveshaft. Man I wish i was confident with my answers...I'm new to the AWD business.(I bought a RX two weeks ago)

speed ometer cable?
What I do is make sure it is secured to the back of the speedometer and then I just pull the end out of the sleeve and stick it in the slot in the tranny and then pull the sleeve over it and screw it on. Always worked for me. Might wanna put some oil or lube in it since you have it out. How's that for run on sentences? Justin

located a 83-4 gl wagon.
A rod knock could be a major thing...it depends on how much he wants for it . EA81 engine blocks aren't hard to come by. If I were you, I'd ask him to start it up...and then i'd remove a plug wire from the top of the distributor cap (with insulated pliars and make sure that you aren't grounding yourself to the car) and if the knock goes away, it is rod knock, if it doesn't...it's probably something simpler (Make sure you put the wire back in before removing the next). Where in Oregon are you?

What the heck is with my 3rd cylinder
No bubbles in coolant and no water in the oil. About the oil in cylinder...I forgot to try that.

What the heck is with my 3rd cylinder
Hey all. My wagon (1987 Gl-10 Turbo), is being stupid. I pulled each plug wire, one at a time, while it was running...(and this time I didn't get shocked!) The only wire that didn't affect the idle was the thrid cylinder wire. So I let it cool down and checked the plug...it was on the black-ish side, compared to the other 3. Then I did a compression check on it...there is only 45PSI on the #3 cylinder...and the rest of the cylinders are 110-120... I am not blowing smoke or steam out the exhaust and there is no oil in the water or vice-versa. But I do lose coolant. What could the problem be?? Is it because of the turbo being sooo close to the 3rd cylinder? Thanks, Justin.

EA82T headstuds once again!
why are headstuds so expensive, what's so special about a heat treated high grade piece of All-Thread?
