Drive line and Crossmember Q's
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So an Auto driveline mught be the same as a D/R driveline? Oh, I'm still on the lookout for your RX tranny. I've been assuming manual, right? Mudrat, you have a PM -
Alright. Sorry for bugging you all about this. My car (4wd 3AT 83 SUBE GL) is getting worse and the only thing hold me back are getting a driveline, clutch pack, and crossmember. I just round up the pedals, tranny, console, shifter, 4wd lever (and bracket, GD), and clutch cable. I searched the forums for about 20 mins and couldn't find out what crossmember and driveline to use for my 1983 3AT to 4spd D/R conversion. My car already has the 3.9 Rear Diff also. Thanks. [HTi]Johnson P.S. I will be making a very detailed "How to..." manual on the conversion. If my camera man doesn't flake out.

simple advice...(updated w/ pics)
[HTi]Johnson replied to nutt7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They have things called Easy outs...or reversed drill bits. You have to drill a hole...pobably 5/16" in the CENTER of the busted bolt. Then you have to select the proper extractor (Bigger the better). Easy outs look like a square punch that have edges that will dig into the outside of the drilled out hole (in the bolt) when you turn it left. The reversed drill bits are tapered and have left handed flutes that will dig into the bolt that you have previously drilled out, as it is digging into the bolt it should reverse it out. Good luck. SHOW US SOME PICS! -
86 EA82 cam noise?/oil pressure
[HTi]Johnson replied to 86surfwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You oil pressure will drop as your oil warms up, it gets thinner. Are you losing any oil? Is there any visible drips or anything of that sort. BTW What kinda oil are you running? (Weight and brand). -
used loyale/gl buying advice
[HTi]Johnson replied to jj_jaxon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cheap subaru for $1,500!? You can buy mine for that much, hell, I'll give it to ya for $1,000. Just saying, you could get a really good sube for that much. What to look for...mileage wise, Subes run forever (If taken car of, my sube has 225,000miles on it) and what kind of GL would you want? What do you want the car for? I'd watch out for rust, but hey I buy compulsively. I'd go with a manual, Sube auto trannies suck. Well, I just lost my train of thought, I was ready to go on forever...but lost it. Good luck. -
Tranny not shifting...?????
[HTi]Johnson replied to vodoobrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have a 3AT with the same problem. Do you have a tranny fluid leak? Check your bolts and seals. My problem was solved by tightening the govenor housing bolts down. -
Back Yard boy's. They are down under. http://users.bigpond.net.au/bybsubi/main.htm

ATTN ALL CA and NV WCSSers
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Crazy...Maybe we can meet in bend then shoot up to hood river as a caravan. I have 2 wagons, a Brat and a Coupe wanting to be part of the caravan. -
Ok. Would an EA81 3AT 4WD driveline and crossmember fit in place of an EA81 4spd D/R 4WD driveline and crossmember?

Vaccuum lines? -
Hey you're in P-Town. GeneralDisorder (USMB Name) lives there to. He seems like a cool enough guy to personally help you. as far as I know about coils...have you check the connections on the coil? The positive and negative sides. check for corrosion and loose connections. Good luck.

Help! Carburetor/Stalling Issue with '84 Brat
[HTi]Johnson replied to StaceyVX's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If it dies when turning ...I'd take GD's advice and check out the jet and the bowl. Maybe rekit the carb. -
Help! Carburetor/Stalling Issue with '84 Brat
[HTi]Johnson replied to StaceyVX's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check the fuel filters...is this an EA81 Engine? If it is...there are two...one in the engine compartment and one in front of the rear passenger tire right next to the fuel pump. As by stalling..do you mean lke bogging down? Check the timing...the plugs, plug wires and coil. Check the air filter too. Hope this helps. PLease keep us up to date. -
Hey does anyone know where i could get a 4spd d/r ea81 tranny...maybe in a day or two? My 3at is going south and I would like to install it before the great WCSS.:-\
-
My friend just bought a Brat for $1000 . It's nice...just faded paint...no visible rust...even has T-Tops..and that little flip up light in the grill! He just needs a clutch, coil, and windshield. What windshield would fit in it? It's a 1982 Brat GL.
-
Hey guys, what about the fuel filters!? One in the engine compartment and one next to the fuel pump. That's located in front of the rear passenger tire...on top of a shrowd.

Would the half shaft...
[HTi]Johnson replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
WTF! I just started it up, let it warm up, checked the boots. It's all fine. Drove it around and it just does it's normal thing. Except the loud as hell exhaust leak...but that's another easy thing fixed. Maybe the tranny just got a little warm and needed to cool down? Could it be the tranny filter...but the prior owner said he had $1200 of work put into the tranny. If that far fetched statement is true (why not just buy another Sube or two, or maybe a new/used tranny, but anyways) you'd think they would have replaced the filter...at least. So no problems with the tranny for now. But I am still interested in that D/R of EA81 or EA82. THanks everyone for the help.
