  1. mudrat79 (Jon Bloom) makes adapter Kits that allow an EJ engine to mate to a EA tranny. They have everything you'll need. They are tried and true. He uses one and Austin uses one.
  2. Hello. Anyone know where I could get a repair manual for a EA81 4speed D/R tranny. With tons of pictures...simple minded. I've looked, and can't find any. Internet manuals are good. Free is better. But will pay for one.
  3. OK now, why will it not shift?
  4. here are the pics EDIT: Pics didn't work EDIT AGAIN: Links to pics http://headtraumainc.tripod.com/IMAG0189.JPG http://headtraumainc.tripod.com/IMAG0188.JPG
  5. I bought a 4sod (supposedly D/R) tranny from a mechanic. He said it was D/R. Well I brought it home and I can't get it to shift. The shifting rod will not move at all. And how can I tell if it is D/R? Pics please.
  6. Well, you'll notice more highway "power". The down side, might be gas mileage...that's what I heard.
  7. I also helped doing that swap (the little that I helped with). That block was resealed as much as possible. Unless he split it and completely did it over. But why? It'd be cheaper to get a crate motor. Brad was there almost the whole time, pretty much all his off time. Which is hard, he lives in Bend, car is in Eugene. Anyways, Brad good job, and great dedication. Most people would just ditch it by now. Let's get it done!
  8. My 5 cents . You should just take the power steering out. Unless you do some pretty hard offroad action(like rock crawling or really bumpy shizzle). It just is a hassle and robs some power from your motor. I know GD is gonna shoot this down, but hey, my opinion is well, mine. If you don't believe me, you can ask the two PS systems I trashed canned. I mean, what are you going to use the PS for? Taking some slight corners at 35mph? Just my JuJu.
  9. Glad to hear of your interest in Subarus. I have a few questions. What do you want to use the Subaru for? Do you want to go off road a lot? Get a 4wd model. If you do get a 4wd model, get it in Dual Range. You like luxuries like power steering, AC, and a tachrometer? Get a GL Model. You stated you like that hatchbacks. So get a hatchback. WELCOME TO THE BOARDS.
  10. HAH HAH it's at $149.99 on ebay in Minnesota. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7916462716&category=6783
  11. So an Auto driveline mught be the same as a D/R driveline? Oh, I'm still on the lookout for your RX tranny. I've been assuming manual, right? Mudrat, you have a PM
  12. Alright. Sorry for bugging you all about this. My car (4wd 3AT 83 SUBE GL) is getting worse and the only thing hold me back are getting a driveline, clutch pack, and crossmember. I just round up the pedals, tranny, console, shifter, 4wd lever (and bracket, GD), and clutch cable. I searched the forums for about 20 mins and couldn't find out what crossmember and driveline to use for my 1983 3AT to 4spd D/R conversion. My car already has the 3.9 Rear Diff also. Thanks. [HTi]Johnson P.S. I will be making a very detailed "How to..." manual on the conversion. If my camera man doesn't flake out.
  13. They have things called Easy outs...or reversed drill bits. You have to drill a hole...pobably 5/16" in the CENTER of the busted bolt. Then you have to select the proper extractor (Bigger the better). Easy outs look like a square punch that have edges that will dig into the outside of the drilled out hole (in the bolt) when you turn it left. The reversed drill bits are tapered and have left handed flutes that will dig into the bolt that you have previously drilled out, as it is digging into the bolt it should reverse it out. Good luck. SHOW US SOME PICS!
  14. You oil pressure will drop as your oil warms up, it gets thinner. Are you losing any oil? Is there any visible drips or anything of that sort. BTW What kinda oil are you running? (Weight and brand).
  15. Cheap subaru for $1,500!? You can buy mine for that much, hell, I'll give it to ya for $1,000. Just saying, you could get a really good sube for that much. What to look for...mileage wise, Subes run forever (If taken car of, my sube has 225,000miles on it) and what kind of GL would you want? What do you want the car for? I'd watch out for rust, but hey I buy compulsively. I'd go with a manual, Sube auto trannies suck. Well, I just lost my train of thought, I was ready to go on forever...but lost it. Good luck.
  16. I have a 3AT with the same problem. Do you have a tranny fluid leak? Check your bolts and seals. My problem was solved by tightening the govenor housing bolts down.

Back Yard boy's. They are down under. http://users.bigpond.net.au/bybsubi/main.htm
  18. Yeah my 3AT 1983 Sube gl's tranny is crapping out...getting worse everyday. I bought the 4spd d/r tranny to replace it, I've heard I need the driveline and crossmember from the D/R. And the pedal assembly. Anyone know where i can get these fairly soon.
  19. driveline and 3.9 rear diff, also?
  20. I was wanting to take the 3AT out and put the 4spd MT in
  21. Crazy...Maybe we can meet in bend then shoot up to hood river as a caravan. I have 2 wagons, a Brat and a Coupe wanting to be part of the caravan.
