  1. try running a wire from the battery to the starter switch? make sure the car isn't in gear and the E brake is on. If that makes it spin...you have a bad ignition switch...I had that prob...I just made a puch button start. The button is right next to the ignition...not very hard... I ran a wire from the positive battery post ...to the button.. then to the starter. (This is the Cheap half You could go the right way and get a new switch (if that turns out to be the prob). Good Luck [HTi]Johnson
  2. Hey all, this might belong in the off topic forum. I might be going to olympia washington this weekend, From Eugene Oregon and I am willing to haul some parts to and from. straight up I-5 corrider, I can live with 5-10 miles deviation. PM me for requests.
  3. well, guess what I need to buy.
  4. What do you mean by not binding?
  5. can i ask how much money you have into your RX?
  6. I was thinking today, I have a 4psd d/r range tranny in my car, I looked at the rear diff and it has a 3.7 ratio sticker on it. Is it supposed to be 3.7 or 3.9, for that tranny? Before, I had the Auto tranny in it, and in 4wd at 45mph i would get a humming from the rear. It doesn't do it now...with the 4psd in there...maybe that's why the automatic died? Thanks. [HTi]Johnson
  7. Valve cover gaskets...if they are cork, tend to shrink and crack...and leak.
  8. I have an EA-81, with no cat now. Runs better. You can smell gas out of the exhaust though. Before the cat was removed, I notice one of the prior owners removed the O2 sensor. Is there a reason you're going to Central America? Like for fun or school?
  9. Fuel injected ea71? You might have other problems. Check your plug wires, coil, and coil wire.
  10. i'm hoping this will be answered quick I know in Subarus, the Engines are zero inteference (T-belt breaks, no piston to valve damage) is this true for justy's
  11. I wonder if this is the first subaru these dumb*****es have dealt with. You drove the car in, no problem, so how could that be a backwards disty? Well, sorry for your problem, you should take them to court and refund you $700 and the next bill to cover the cost of fixing it. Too bad you're not farther north in Oregon, tons of people are here, more than willing to help you. A weber, I don';t think would help you pass smog. well, sorry for your troubles. Justin
  12. Hey all. I was wondering, they make EA82 AWD MT trannies right? What kind of car can I get it out of, and does anyone have one for me Thanks for putting up for me.
  13. I had a friend put ATF in the Diff. He's not a subaru dude. I spaced it when I was installing the radiator and he pulled the dipstick and said "Woh, this ATF smells like crap". He put 1/2quart in and I was like "WAIT, *****, that's where the gear oil goes!" So far no probs . I consider it a thurough oil flush. So, should I drain the gear oil?
  14. Hey all, I'm just saying that I shouldn't have any more questions about the 3AT to 4spd D/R Swap(Knocks on wood). It's done and driving. Thanks everyone for helping out/putting up with my noob questions.
  15. Hey all. I am almost done with my 3AT to 4spd D/R swap. Just one problem. Where/how do I mount the 4wd lever, and are the "L" arms that go from the lever to the end piece on the transmission different between S/R and D/R?
  16. Who owned the HATCHBRAT with the AC COMPRESSOR, he was at WCSS 6. PM ME PLEASE
  17. holy shizzle. That was a fast response THANKS Turbone.
  18. HEY. I just installed my 4speed tranny...after months of takling about it. It's still on jacks though, it got too late tonight. OK OK...the question: Does the starter from the 3AT have to be spaced for the 4Speed? I searched the board and found some post that said it doesn't need to be modified. But I've heard otherwise. THanks for your HELP [HTi]Johnson[uSMB]
  19. You made sure to get all the oil and dirt off the pads and rotors right? used lots of Brake cleaner? and Welcome to the boards.
  20. I do believe that ALL SOHC EJ engines have the same timing covers and ALL DOHC EJ engines have the same covers.
  21. I had a similar problem. I replaced the belt and forgot to release the hydraulic tensioner(pull the pin). After i put all the plastics on i started it and heard what I thought was pulley on plastic, so I dismissed it. About 3k miles later my car just died, 2 blocks frome my house, after going on a 200mile trip. So I pushed it to a gas station and took the plastics off, and found the tensioner bolt had snapped. Lucky for me, that whole plate come off. No drilling or easy outs.
  22. Timing covers, to use or not to use? that is the question. Right now I am not using the covers on my 1991 legacy SOHC. Any problems with this?

You can lift anything. Are you wanting to keep it 2wd or convert it to 4wd? Jon Bloom (Mudrat79) lifts anything. Contact me for his number.
  24. Last week I bought a 1991 Subaru Legacy wagon 2wd. It has everything. ABS, SUNROOF, AC, PS, PW, Cruise...ect. I bought it for $75!!!! The person who sold it to me said it died when he was driving...so he thought it was the T-belt and tore into it, he put it together, half assed. He just put the belt on and tried starting it, it didn't start, so he let a Mechanic get into it...he had no clue (He's a Jeep Tech). I got it, and took the belt off. I realigned it and put it back on...tried turning it over....nothing...So i checked the fuel and spark...ok. I checked the plugs...fine...the injectors...fine. Looked at the crank timing pulley..noticed that the arrow wasn't the alignment mark. So i realigned it...started it, it started, but i had to turn it off really fast because lack of the radiator and the tranny lines already spewed 2 gallons on the ground. Now that I haveb it all together it runs just fines...WTF was that guy thinking. It looks excellent (condition) So, what should I do to it, I'm new to the new gen subes .
