  1. I've been busy over the holidays...my camera finally died so I got a new one... I got an Accel supercoil for $25...fabbed a custom bracket plus some new Accel wires, Ngk plugs and fuel filters changed.. The am/fm stock radio was killing me after awhile...I hunted on Craigslist and found a used Premier cd/radio for $35 and new 5.25" 3-wayspeakers $20 for the rear( I used the side pockets in the rear ) Abit of plywood/cutout,speaker fabric and some self drilling screws to mount them. The front speakers I used a 3.5" coaxials for $9.95 via the net in the stock locations..with minor modification to mount. The slant radio console I cutout the am/fm radio slot to fit the new headunit in place . I went to tap plastics and bought some scrap and had them cut it out for me and I mounted via screws over the old fascia. I then decided to use up some black plastic paint I had and paint the console to match the new fascia.. The Gm 100amp alt conversion is next...
  2. No pics ..been too busy with the boy...sledding..snowball fights... Of course I've been drivng my soobs..the outback gets around just fine...I did chain up all four though as the icy roads and due to pdx /wash/yamhill counties requiring chains on...The hatch is great in the snow lots o' donuts/cookies . We've got around 14" now in Newberg after this morn... Yesterday, I helped this guy with an ea82 wagon in sherwood overheating/w no heat(t-stat/low coolant)..drove him to safeway/back to get some coolant..Then in newberg helped a minivan get out of a ditch on 99w at the bottom of rex hill. Then helped this old lady at Newberg fred meyer scape ice/snow off her car..she had to been in her 80's..(pretty tough /determined woman..)
  3. thx guys for the input...! I found some cheap 3.5" coaxials for like ten bucks..online...I like the factory look..wolf in sheeps clothing..
  4. So I take it you completely misread what I wrote in the thread... This is a wheeler so the door speakers maybe submerged...and I like using the side pockets for tools, tire psi guage. I have no room for the box speaker setup in the rear...recovery gear goes there, tools...spare rear axle...( i'm using the the stock location) I'm keeping the rear seat so my son can go wheelin' too...
  5. It's time to upgrade my '84 hatch to some new cones ... Not that I don't love the sound of my sube as it roars @ WOT I'm thinkin of 3" dia or 3.5" coaxials in the dash...anyone fit those sizes in ok? The bulk of the sound will be from the rear 5.25" speakers...more fader.. It's a wheeler so door speakers are out of the question...burble...burble Besides my screwdrivers ,tire psi guage fits nicely in the pockets..

Right on! Master of the mtn...Subaru does it again! Doh!...I didn't even get out.... I spent a few hours putting insulating plastic over the windows (alot warmer in da house now..). I would have been ready to go....No one called me including Michael... Yea It looked like alot of idiots out there... I'm hoping to get another truck in the shop , so I can do a headgasket...on a cummins..I have two trannys to do.. so I hope to stay in the warm shop this week...{{{BURRR}}} The teens are not fun to wrench in.
  7. I'm in...call me 503-314-7535 Putting in axle #3(rear) ....Starting to think about a solid toyota axle with air locker..
  8. Sounds kewl...Yeah I think HR grease ya slipped on will be there... I'll be there early..8:30am
  9. I'm in one for '84 Gl rear hatch window seal.
  10. I'll be there! I just finished my front skidplate/mated to the bashplate..bomber:banana: Tommorrow I plan on doing my exhaust/muffler/raising the diff/plus axle seals.
  11. Mindyou my son was in the hatch ..so rolling over was not an option...! Maybe when I weld in a rollbar.. It was so greasy..and when the back end started to come around "ok were havin fun now "Mudterrains would have been the tire of choice that day..The FWD option is nice to have when your in a jam..we still had to anchor the back to keep it from sliding...
  12. my '84 gl hatch This hatch is a work in progress.. Weber 32/36 DGEV Accel supercoil,8mm wires 4spd D/R welded rear diff. 4" SJR lift Rancho RS5241 rear shocks 14" Pugs Cooper weathermaster s/t II snows custom bashplate PIAA 520 fogs LIghtforce rmdl 170's overheads Hella FF75 overhead backup lamps custom "Frito Bandito" overhead rack Uniden 520xl cb '98 outback front bucket seats w/ impreza seat belts much more to come ...
  13. nice work:drunk: Hows this Sunday for wheelin ... Team CF and I are always out and about...let's go wheelin' ! Don't forget the HP X-mas tree run..! I need to do the swap myself as my 4spd has a bad 3rd gear syncro and no hi range.. For the switch I would make it the turbo boost(Blower) switch ya know like the madmax intercepter...lol
  14. In my opinion as a mechanic I think the terrain (uneven/offcamber) one wheel was a foot off the ground . I gassed it and the other side caught shock loading the powertransfer thru the welded diff. and the weakest link was the cup. I will reset the rear to 4" if that's what you recommend Scott...
  15. After all the work done it was time to take the virgin hatch out wheelin'.. A nice cruise out to TSF(Tillamook state Forest) we hit some trails.. The hatch performed flawlessly all day... I was happy until we got to the infamous hill that took out Chaz's diff..! I cleaned it the first time no problem..I did the second time with a bad line..and too much throttle ..{{{bang}} the left rear axle inner cup exploded..DOH! No biggie I removed the axle and we wheeled all day after that...
  16. I also found some PIAA 520 fogs I mounted on the bumper. They were $60 like new from craigslist. They were chrome so I painted the covers with some black plastic paint I had.
  17. The previous owner I bought the car from said the guy he purchased it from was abit more portly than myself say 400lbs..so the drivers seat was broken down..much to my suprise the mounts and towers too...! So it was time to upgrade..I was trolling the local u-pullit and found a nice pair of '98 outback seats in grey cloth $48 pair . I also nabbed the seat belts from a '95 impreza . First the mounts on the drivers side had to be reconstructed..so I cut/fabbed and welded them. The left rear tower was completely unsafe...! I later cut /fabbed & welded the outback seat brackets to refit to the ea81 chassis mounts. I first set the seats in just to see how much I need to cut off as the outback seats mounts are taller..I'm 6' so I used the drinking method..(how many fingers)lol.. Stock ea81 seats I have 4fingers horizontally from the top of my head to the roof(safe) . The outback seats in (just set in place no mods yet) I had 2fingers clearance...being a wheeler & I didn't need the headaches.. After a couple hours of cut/fab/welding I got the seats in and I also had to trim the plastic inner sill cover(seat side) to fit the seats in also the drivers side hatch lever/cover abit. It's a tight fit but works great. The seat belts I had to retro fit (impreza belts) by reversing the mount postion(belt/barrel assembly) and welding two pieces of 1/8" flatbar for setback and length & then drilling a hole for the mount. They tuck nicely inside the frame pockets. I will post more detailed pics of this later.. here's a pic of the seats mounted with reconstruction..I also steam cleaned them so they look almost new.. I have some safety and comfort now...
  18. I ditched the Hitachi that was giving me issues (worn throttle shaft bushings). I found almost new Weber 32/36 DGEV w/elec. choke w/75miles that was on a 22R toy powered sand rail for $175. I purchased an adapter plate $39 / rejetted to Subaru EA81 spec. Primary/secondary Main jets 140/140 Air correction jets 170/160 Idle jets 50/50 I eliminated all the smog stuff as they don't test deq here...otherwise a weber 32/34 dft(smog legal carb ) would work fine...I had one years ago on my Chev luv 1.8l Isuzu it ran great! I took the old right side air cleaner mount and cut it just above the plug wire holder and welded the stock throttle cable bracket to the appropiate height and bolted it down in the stock location of the original mount. I used the old Hitachi throttle linkage and tack welded it to the offsetted weber linkgage(clears the choke lever). For my throttle return spring I used the stock Hitachi spring and attached it to a ziptie wrapped around the weber(see pic). After abit of tunning she runs like a rocket and sucks you back in the seat in 1st/2nd/3rd gear...
  19. I don't recommend it.. I would try some Gorilla tape the stuff is amazing even sticks to water covered surfaces. Another way is to get some plastic epoxy and remold the broken bits & pieces together again . Use the gorilla tape to help hold pieces together while you let the expoxy set. I would try to get another used cover... beats having your EJ18 becoming an interference engine..in a catasrophic way! Cheers
  20. kewl.. "Four lugs...for dirty deeds done dirt cheap" I have a line on this guy who makes custom steelies in any lug pattern/offset you want for $36 a wheel... So my 14" pugs will be upgraded to 15" cheaply..and more tire options..!
  21. As a mechanic we use Trans-X in many vehicles the stuff is amazing...! Also a good cheaper alternative to full synthetic ATF is Valvoline Max life which is equivilant to full synthetic and is covered under manufacturers recommended fluids..Max life is great for vehicles with 75k or more... The best way to keep 4eat /5eat trans life is to change fluids /filter every 30k . Also adding a trans cooler makes a difference as well. An ATF flushing by the dealer or jiffy lube if they have the machine is the best way to insure all the fluid gets changed to fresh. just draining the 3/4qts from the pan will not get all of the old fluid out. Don't forget to remove and clean the trans filter screen under the valve body...!
  22. kewl, I'm in Newberg I hit TSF and Hood alot...in my '84 lifted hatch 503-314-7535
  23. The front is still on stands in the pic... As far as blocks I hope they are in right as per no instructions....That's where my install pics/video will come in... It looks like they sit right on the ground...
  24. Damn...While you were out havin' fun..I was in the shop doing the headgaskets on my hatch...and stuffing the ea81 back in..! Jason, I hope ya get your wagon back together... You too....Chaz... I don't wanna be solo...on my debut....
