  1. It was a blast! I got a 1:24 in my heavy outback wagon! not bad for an N/A car. That Limo was so kewl to watch looked like a battleship broadside in the turns especially the last loops when he 180'd it with a a car load of folks!!!
  2. That was for a 99 rs! not a legacy!!! The legacy is a four door... besides you could probably pickup that year of an RS for under 10g anyway if you can find one.
  3. I think 16's will clear .However , check with the dealer and ask the parts guys if Subaru changed the calipers since the gen 2 OBW. The first gen 2000 model still has the gen 1 calipers , so 15's clear no problem. Mine is an '03 and they do not clear due to larger calipers, better check rather than buying wheels that won't fit. If your local tire shop has a 16" ask to have one fitted on the front and rear of one side to see if they will mount. I did this when fitting mine with 15's ...they were really kewl about it and made easy grand for them....
  4. AWESOME! needs a roll bar....Subaru would sell a ton of those!!! 40g seems absurd I know it can be done prob. 10g or less and abit of labor.
  5. Not a problem with aggressive tires, seams to me all-season radials are the worse culprits . a good snow tire /AT/MT tire no problems. the wet snow is the worst and really packs the wheel wells...powder no problem!
  6. I went with a Yokohama Geolander AT+II's 215/75R15 which are 1" larger diameter than stock 225/60R16's. I put these on my '03 outback although I had to grind my front calipers 1/4" to fit 15" rims on! Your gonna run into the same problem with new gen. I'm also lifted 2" via kingsprings. I filled the wheel wells nicely!
  7. I think an OBW would be good with a 4EAT better in sand since the gearing is lower than a 5MT in first gear. Note the 4EAT in 1st or 2nd gear keeps the trans in 50/50 mode but 3rd and 4th it's 90/10split. An LSD(limited slip rear diff.) is a must for any offroad! stock tires are fine in sand if you air them down I've been in some fairly deep stuff with no problems. The legacy outback name is still on the 2000-04 but on the title with no badging. They dropped the legacy name alltogther in '05 Hence the "OUTBACK" Offroad The Forester is better due to less weight and shorter wheelbase. I'm a tall guy so I needed a bigger car. You can get anything you want for the outback or a forester . you can lift it/build it/ turbo it .Most Subaru parts are pretty interchangeable with other models, they use alot of the same parts. I personally thought the Forester to be rolly polly and the outback smooth and stable after driving both/ given the wheelbase.
  8. Charlie in the outdoor factory dipping a SUB'aru "Up periscope!":burnout:
  9. Great shots! What happened to the Black WRX's rear door...? The old skool is awesome!!!
  10. That's why I approach any mudholes/water crossings at slow speeds until I have a snorkel! That is any ugly aftermath! Time for the Turbo baja upgrade + a snorkel
  11. I used to mtn bike this place about 16years ago! Take hwy 35 South from Hoodriver and turn left on FS rd 17(aka Pinemount dr) East or (Take hwy 35 North and go East on FS rd 17) to road fs rd 640 and climb the powerline rd to your right(North) Get a green trails map or Mt.Hood FS map. I will provide maps to those attending.
  12. Actually that particular trail should only take about 2hours tops, but then theres so much to do on the other side.....Yeppers! even the hardcore rigs will have challenges!!! The stock rigs should have at least snow or AT tires as the terrain is pretty rocky...I found mudholes over a foot deep! I was gonna go for it but then turned around since I was alone and with my 2 1/2year old son.... getting stuck would be bad! He knows that word real well!LOL! I'm thinkin of doing trail runs Friday/Sat/ Sun. Perhaps a night run too!
  13. I'm lifted via kingsprings and yes I have a trans cooler and run synthetic atf as well.
  14. Since I've been charged with the task to lead a trail run for WCSS8 ....Here's a sneak peak...From Surveyors ridge and more of the area. I was havin such a good time on this trip to the foothills of Parkdale, Odell. My 2 1/2 year old son was my co-driver.....he loves wheelin...... I met a few locals and this is the place to go ! I could not believe all the spurs/hillclimbs/mudholes /tight tracks...I think I stumbled on "wheelerdise"!!! There was awesome views of the valley below and Mt.Hood/Adams as well even though they were shrouded in clouds...! Note: no one has been this trail in a long time ...I had first tracks!!! Enough talk ...pictures are where it's at...just a tease for now....
  15. nice pics ! but when you say log trails !!! I'm thinkin trails with logs on it comes to mind... Most stock vehicles can do that stuff and it's fun just to see what you can do before you lift and other mods...I wheel my '03 obw alot and still makin payments so damage is not good!!! I think alot of folks think that the new gens are weak and not worthy offroad like the old gen...Well I changed that opinion last year when I showed up wheelin at WCSS7 on a tight atv trail... who says a new gen can't tricycle...?
  16. I think the 4eat is better for the lower gear ratio in 1st vs a 5mt in 1st gear. Plus you have unlimited slip of the torque convertor. I have an 03 obw w/ a 4eat/lsd combo and works great in sand! I pulled out a big suv last year "Mercury mountaineer" out of the sand at Longbeach, Wa. I feel the power/traction to weight ratio with a Subaru is unmatched vs alot of other vehichles.
  17. I think I'm the only one inthe world to run a 215/75R15 yokohama Geolander AT+II's which are 1" larger overall diameter than stock 225/60R16. I had to grind the front calipers a 1/4" to fit the 15" wheels on and I'm lifted 2" as well. I know there are a few folks running 18's with low profile tires pretty wide as well. Check out www.subaruoutback.org
  18. If theres a fire in the door ...with a few fasteners there is no way to get the fire out in time! I have taken off the door panel assembly many times !('03 outback) All you need it is the two screwdrivers (phillips/slotted)Subaru gives you when you bought your car ..in the black pouch with tire iron. just geta pair of side cutters and hack off the wiring through the door near the hinges! or pull the right fuse! Have an extinguisher ready! electrical fires burn quickly! I've put out a few! Infact I just helped rewire the aftermath of a rally car (friends team ) It was ugly ! melted everything ! we got the car up and going an hour later! Good thing there was no interior to deal with other than steel!
  19. Forget those "fooling the ecu" jobs ...just a crock & nobody is using them! What boost are you expecting to get without a turbo or supercharger, nitrious?...none!!! First get a catback exhaust using a 2.25" pipe Then try a CAI, Header and a Piggyback ECU (perfectpower ecu- SMT-6) A lightwieght crank pulley helps for quicker revs to redline. I have done all those and make's a huge difference...but will cost you a few bucks! The next step is Highflow cat. and cams or turbo conversion.... I also have an '03 outback wagon with a 4eat trans.
  20. Sounds great ! Perhaps some brew from the Elliot Glacier public house(parkdale ) that's about as local as it get's other than Mt.Hood brewing , Government camp or Full Sail, Hood river:grin:
  21. At least I showed up to the 3 corner rock meet....and went solo! So did anyone go?
  22. So after mowing the yard ya went for a dip...! LOL! Nice shots! Especially the bazooka ehaust!
