so what is the difference between the 90-94 ej22 and the 95 ej22? is it just the egr and the obd2 stuff? could i use a 90-94 ej22 block and heads with a 95 ej22 intake to make the swap happen and do that non egr to egr fix then? so if i want to maintain using the ej25 intake manifold i need to use the ej25 heads on the 90-94 ej22e block?

I am aware that the 95-98 ej22's are a direct bolt in for the ej25d, what about the 90-94 ej22 blocks? will they bolt up to a ej25 intake and exhaust? I am aware the 90-94 ej22's do not have the EGR in the heads but if i bolt a ej25d intake to the heads will the engine run anyways until i make make one work? i know a 25d head will bolt up to a ej22 block as a backwards frankenmotor, but using what head gasket? the reason for all of these questions is that i had my 99 SUS in the shop about a month ago for the total rebuilding of the heads on the motor, fast forward 3 weeks my car starts misfiring and runs like something between a jack hammer and a sewing machine. i put on a new coil but i still have the sound, i also tried to isolate the sound by unhooking one spark plug at a time to see if i could rule out a rod bearing but it knocked through all plug wires. i took the car into a shop to see what the issue was thinking it could be the tensioner on the timing belt maybe had been defective, ( all timing components were changed with the timing belt along with the water and oil pumps) , they proclaimed that the noise was coming from inside the bottom of the block, something attached to the crankshaft, i have elected to do a ej22 swap to get this car back on the road. any help or information would be greatly appreciated

86 gl missing some wires (Update)
tysn replied to tysn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mines dr4wd so they may be the same, after last night i really need a good description of the wires that all hook to the coil and where the go to and come from. we checked for spark and we get it at the coil only when we hook a wire directly from the battery to the coil. no spark when we go from the key. also there was no fuel pump. there are a few wires that are cut there also so im wondering if thats an issue also. -

In the group of wires that has the smaller black and white wire that engages the starter via the key, there is 4 other wires in that same bundle, There are 2 green wires ( one of which has a white stripe) a solid black wire, and a blue wire with a red stripe, it you could follow those wires and maybe tell me where they each hook to that would be great. i have the wiring diagram but its pretty useless if i dont know what each wire does. -

anyone at all? -
so i went to the nearest wrecking yard and looked on a 86 fwd wagon and it had 4 out of the 5 wires i mentioned in my first post i found the following according to the one in the wrecking yard. Black w/ white stripe - hooks to the starter bluew/ red stripe (?) Green w/white stripe Some White circular connector maybe test green Some White circular connector maybe test black Hooked to some wire by the tranny dipstick. the blue with the red stripe is the one that seems to be the one in question, i went to the dealership and got a copy of the wiring diagram but no color coded wires. i hooked the black w/ white stripe and did get the starter to crank via the key, both the timing belts and rotor spin freely it seems, where is the fuel pump located on the carbed ea82? is there some wires that signal to the pump? is there a wire that hooks somehow to the coil for start up?

Ok while looking at my soob, i noticed a group of 5 wires that had been cut off that are pretty close to the master brake cylinder, the wires are as followed color stripe Black w/ white stripe bluew/ red stripe Green w/white stripe green black what do this wires connect to, btw the car is a ea82 carb. i think one of them connects to the started via ignition switch meaning that wire isnt anywhere to be found. as for the others? any help or wire diagrams would be greatly appreciated.

well i jsut rescued a 86 gl wagon with dual range, the previous owner said she was driving and heard a pop sound then the car stopped running, i checked the timing belts but i have yet to check the disty for that screw, what are some other things i could check that could have possible put the wagon into a coma? Also i read that the 85-86 wagons had an adjustable suspension? how and where can a person play with these settings?
-
i just agreed to purchase a 1986 gl wagon with dr4wd and the owner says it needs a new engine. now being on this forum a while i can guess its one of 4 things, timing belts, head gaskets, screw on disty, or the dude may have actually killed the motor. Now im not one with experience on carbs but where would be a good place to start checking if the engine is good? taking off the cap to see if the rotor moves or not? what tools are needed to do a timing belt and waterpump change?
-
the ae 101 or 102 is stamped on the firewall it isnt a sticker. I think the disty is engine specific. but then again i checked on ebay and they seem to think the same disty works for both 1.6 and 1.8 motors. how about some specifics on your car? automatic 3 speed or 4 speed? trim level?
-
well i own a 94 corolla, first thing i would check is what trim it is, base model = 4afe= 1.6 dx had both 4afe=1.6, and 7afe=1.8 motor le had 7afe= 1.8 look on the sticker on the hood that shows like the timing and all that jazz and look for the motor family, i may be wrong with this but high on the passenger side of the firewall there is a stamp that says ae 101 or 102, ae101= 4afe=1.6 ae102=7afe=1.8 other that that im not sure how to tell lol
