Portland/Van Get-to-Gether Sun 6-13-04
Well with Kurt aka Syrinx in town, we thought it might be nice to get together for a BBQ and a small meeting of the Portland Club (maybe start talking about actually being a club.) And Jason aka Bajasubarunut, would also like to have a vehicle strip-a-thon while everyone is there. Place: Jason House 10672 SE 78th Milwaukie OR 97222 Date Sunday June 13, 2004 Time:12:00ish. I am sure people who want to help strip the car are welcome earlier. BYOB (you know what that means) and there will be a Barbeque but since everyone likes different stuff, don't know how many are showing up and we aren't supplying steaks, BYOM. (Bring your own meat) and we also like everyone to bring something to share potluck style. Please cordinate this with me through my PM box by Saturday @ 3:00. Things to bring: Chips Pop for everyone Charcoal and such items Salads, etc Plates, and stuff maybe (have to ask Jason and Heather about that one) Please come and bring your family even if you don't feel like taking a car apart. If you are thinking about coming or defiantly be coming please post here so we can get an idea of the #'s

1.8 EJ is it a dog?
richierich replied to dave valiant's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXcomparing it to previous Subaru dogs, I think that it is the best N/A 1.8 that has been made. The 1.8 ea81 4spd 4WD is a dog. The 1.8 ea82 Auto 4WD is definately a dog. I drove a customer's 93 Impreza Automatic wagon yesterday, and if I didn't already know it was a 1.8, I would have guess it was a 2.2, just because it was peppy off the line. Of course it was a 2WD, so maybe that has something to do with it, the Impreza you drove was probably hauling around a AWD system that your BRAT isn't. You are comparing a 1.8T to a N/A 1.8, of course it is not going to be a big improvement. Also you did not mentioned the maintance on this vehicle, does it have new spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc? Maybe it was in need of maintance. I would have to say that the EJ1.8 Auto AWD is probably a slug, compared to a Turbo 1.8, but I have driven 2.2 Auto Imprezas that do not have the get up and go of my 84 Turbo Coupe.

My black 89 RX
Very jealous, Rob. Will have to drool all over it, when I get my wheels, so don't clean it up too well. Let me know if the burden of such a rare car gets to you, and I will take it off your hands. : )

Wife's Newer Vehicle (pics added)
It is a 66 DARK green Thunderbird. It belongs to my father, though I did find it for him. It is the Laudau version with tilt away steering, A/C (hard to find) full power options including windows (hard to find) and the vinyl top. Only has 92k miles on it.

The White one in the picture, is my 85 (it is in the first link) The black one is a 82 Project BRAT that I bought from Zapar, he was going to part it out because of rust. It only has 76k miles on it so I talked him into selling it to me. It Northguy: The 82 in the pic with the GT Is the one on the far left. Yours is second from th right.

What is a GT...
richierich replied to Sweet82's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou also have to realize that in some years, there are GT and GT Limited. What Philbiker & Chip have explained are GT Limited, at least for the earlier (98-02) I am not sure after that. I have a 2000 GT, it has 55/45 (cuz it a 5spd) LSD, CD & Cassette (but no multiple CD or weather band), nice velour cloth interior, etc. Could send you over a copy or the invoice if interested.

Mike's Impreza is an automatic. Craig guessed it. It is a 2000 Legacy GT 5speed Sedan. 1 owner, Timberline Green. Has all the goodies, even LSD Diff. Will try and post pics over my lunch hour. It has actually cheaper than what some people wanted for their RS's (another good guess) We looked at a few RS's but again, we thought something bigger would be more suitable.

Give up? I'll give you a hint. It should probably be posted in New Gen forum. Craig is the closest. That's actually two hints.

No, my wife doesn't like the funky windows. Besides, one reason we didn't get the WRX is that we did not feel it was big enough, incase we decided to have kids.

Good Guess. We would have taken an nice one of those but unfortuately have not found any that have been nicer than her 92 Legacy was, so we never bought one. I have a 92 EJ22T but it is an Automatic and she will own a stick and currently doesn't want a wagon.

Not a WRX, we looked at a few but the only ones we could afford had reconstructed titles, and either the person lied about the damage (ow very light only had to replace headlight) or they did not have air bags.

I know, you guys hate doing this. Anyone want to guess? Just got the pictures loaded hope this works. You can read the post if you want to know more about it. But I think a picture speaks a 1000 words. http://www.angelfire.com/on2/richie/Subaru/images/LegGT2.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/on2/richie/Subaru/images/LegGT1.jpg

Pics of the new lift installed (if I can figure out how to post them)
Let me be the first to say, it looks really good. Needs to be waxed but it looks really good. I bet the wheels make the silver accents on that come out. Don't trash it up there, I don't have very many more to send up.

broken timing belt - due to broken water pump - questions
richierich replied to a post in a topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDon't go with a Japanese Engine might not have a EGR Tube. Big trouble if it doesn't. If the person would have posted his or her location we might be about to find a shop that knows about Subarus to help him/her.

The mysterious new "fix" for HG
richierich replied to BlueSoob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI called the local dealership and had them send me some for my customer that have vehicles with over 100k miles on them. It only cost me $1.50 per bottle. They didn't make it seem like it was some mysterious item that was kept under lock and key. Recommend that my customer have the dealer install it the first time but after that, I will keep it on hand for services. They say it needs to be added any time the antifreeze is changed so it is going to be a stock item.

Newest addition to the family...
Nice. I am a big XT fan. We only have 3 currently. My sisters (two different accidents) wiped out the driver's side of my 86 XT Turbo, when I was 16. Probably only got to put 1000 miles on it. Anyways, I have a charcoal grey fender with silver bottom if you are interested.

88 RX, should I get it?
Hopefully you would not have to put $1500 into it in the next two years. You will need to start with a new double core radiator, which is anywhere from $160-$200. I love the RX's, don't get me wrong, but a non-turbo might be a better first vehicle, especially if you want to work on it yourself. The SPI fuel injection Loyale is pretty simple machine. I would stay away from a high mileage carb model unless you are in area where you can put a weber on it. Not meaning to offend anyone, but there are two sides to every coin.

88 RX, should I get it?
Well, personally I know where the people are coming from. I sell around 12 vehicle a year. On the higher priced ones I bend over backwards to let them take it a mechanic, show it to their wife, etc. On the lower-priced ones, I can't be so accomadating, because my time is valuable. You have already been out there 3 times, and they are selling $1000 vehicle, in their situation, I might not let you take it again. BUT if the deal sounds fishy, then leave your name and number and tell them you would be more than happy to take it off their hands after your mechanic sees it. Its a car, there are more of them out there. And if I had a decent $1000 RX, and you offered me $300 for it, I would tell you to get off my property, and come back when you knew what you wanted. Negoiating is fine, but low-balling someone just pisses them off. If you are not going to have money to put into a vehicle than a EA82 TURBO is not for you. No matter how cool it is. They are a HIGH maintance vehicle and are prone to overheating.
