i had an 87 turbo wagon down in arizona and it basically always sat at 2/3 to 3/4 on the temp gauge, and this was after replacing both heads and throwing on a new water pump and 2 row radiator. if you dont have one yet, try an aftermarket temp gauge. equus has a temp gauge thats rather cheap and has the correct adaptor in the package already. Wally mart has it... 10 bucks.. that should give you an actual temp to work with... my car always sits at 190 on the freeway up here in washington.. but i consistently had readings around 210 down there and that was pretty normal... a/c seemed like a no-no at anything above 50mph though... hope this helps rllywgn

What is this thing? Early EA82 MPFI "Leone"
rllywgn replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i had a 86 turbo GL-10 2wd back in the day... non trubo mpfi is more of a rarity fo sure.. i would lean towards it being south america market vehicle. I dont think we ever got anything in the U.S. with leone badging or did we? subaru has done some strange things before... rllywgn -
depending on how you set up the fiberglass it can be quite atrong but yeah it will crack if you bash it... carbon fiber can do the same thing though it just has more structural rigidity then fiberglass.. Also Carbon fiber to cure correctly for strength it should be baked and pressure formed Making molds out of fiberglass is wicked easy though.. i was planning a similar project using high density foam to shape fender flares, then form a mold over the entire stock fender with the reshaped section in place.. with this you could crack out fiberglass fenders like there was no tomorrow... most of the "baja" trucks out there use fiberglass bodywork.. cheap and easy to replace.. for those little bang ups rllywgn

so i got bored and made a few changes.. its been fun so far.. and within my budget.. gauges.. the cheap wal-mart stuff... but they seem to work great.. i built the gauge pod out of some abs plastic i had laying around. the paint job.. so far its just the hood, roof, grill and eyelids... it will make its way to the trunk in the next couple days, sit like that for a few weeks the ill paint the rest... I kinda like it so far.. i got some more color sanding to do.. btw opinions? rllywgn p.s. gc8 parts and wheels is all i need for the 5 lug fun -

ok just a couple questions, I just got the same gauges but larger (2") and installed them on my 88 mpfi turbo sedan.. I ran into a problem on my oil gauge only in the sense that i pulled the wrong sensor out of the oil pump, my car didnt come with an oil pressure gauge but has an oil pressure switch and a plug where the oil pressure sensor should be... so to the point... it looks like your oil pressure sensor is there but the pressure switch is not? or is that just a difference between cars with and without oil gauges from the factory? is your temp sensor mounted near the t-stat housing? if not.. that may have something to do with your temp readings being off a lil.. i think it came out very well... nice... rllywgn -
so why don't it work??? Update page 4
rllywgn replied to Buddy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
if you have a voltmeter verify that there is something flowing through the speakerlines at the speaker.. if you have a sedan go through the trunk and unplug the speaker and test with the deck on, if it shows no voltage the lines faulty somewhere.. or remove one of the speakers or use an extra and plug its terminals directly to the speaker outs on the deck, hang the deck out your dash to do this. if you have sound your decks good if you dont it isnt if there is sound that means your decks good and your speaker wiring is not.. rewiring it would be an excellent idea, the older subaru's use a common ground for the speakers (not the best). running new wire would also improve the sound quality.. hope this helps rllywgn -
Do i have a duel intake mainfold or single?
rllywgn replied to yodannyc's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i believe the carb'ed motor is a single port motor... the mpfi and turbo models are dual. the runners that go from the carb to each head on the motor, count'em single has one on each side and dual port has 2. word rllywgn -

almost every factory stereo is gonna be the same for wires and colors coming out the back of the deck yellow - 12v constant (memory) red - switched power black - ground blue - remote blue/white - antenna orange - dimmer grey & grey/black - speaker white & white/black - speaker purple & purple/black - speaker green & green/black - speaker sometimes theres more (usually) but that depends on the features of the deck... anymore these wires are universal between any manufacturer with the exception being factory units rllywgn -

almost all aftermarket head units have a built in amplifier to power your speakers, although there are a few exceptions on the market. It is quite possible that the decks built in amp has blown. if your fuses are good as well as the connections to your speakers, I would say the decks amp is toast. it happens... try another deck in there if you can get ahold of one to verify that its the deck and not the car.. rllywgn -
A good rule of thumb is if you dont know what it is or does, dont disconnect/remove. fyi your car may not have a egr.. depending on emissions standrards where your at rllywgn
