  1. Legacy's only? outback wagons etc?? No imprezas? & where to check for this? from the outside off car, looking in at wheel well or from interior? I'm looking to add another sub to the family.
  2. So this new to me 99 impreza L,(with 147k miles on odo) may not have a functional AWD? When I test drove it, I did a full turned to one side, tight , figure 8 on pavement & could hear and feel wheels scuffing. This was the reason for getting a sub in the first place. (my road is not plowed) . On Edit; my buddy who worked at dealer told when I change fluid in dif, to add the additive, like the old LSD on American cars. My owners manual does not mention anywhere to do this.???? Who's right? The additive is slippery-er right? This kept the old LSD from chattering when making turns, right?
  3. i just bought a used 99 impreza L. How can I tell if I have the system ? So I can order fob?
  4. Can someone translate please, I'm trying to learn. What is it & do?
  5. Sorry for my ignorance, but what the big deal about the weight distribution? You gonna take it out on the track?
  6. Well I found out on mine, the fluid enters the bottom of the radiator on drivers side & exits on passenger, back to the tranny.
  7. Hmmmm, how does coolant get into tranny fluid, if tranny runs at a greater pressure, than coolant?
  8. I thought I was leaking trans fluid into radiator coolant. I hooked up air compressor to trans connection on radiator & blocked off outlet. & put 2 latex gloves over coolant in/out ports. (empty on floor) Put 50 lbs or air pressure over night & gloves are still collapsed & air pressure still holding. So maybe my drain pan had some old oil in it before I emptied coolant into it? (floating red oil) So I just wanted to be sure, before I reinstall rad cause I just did timing belt. Should I have put more air pressure to it? > BTW overflow bottle did looked clean.
  9. Was this a set up? Dont make me hunt you down on the way to Rhinelander!
  10. From what I gather, for my auto 1999, the dextron III is no longer available. I just got this car & want to do all belts seals, & fluids. If I do a 1 time tranny fluid change out with a cheapy fluid, then put in subaru fluid last change out. (maybe putting on a few miles on cheapy fluid & on cheap filter, before doing the Subaru brand filter & fluid)What is a good cheapy to use? Also I was going to use the 2 bucket method, using hoses off the radiator cooler/exchanger, sucking in clean fluid in one full bucket while the other empty bucket catches old fluid, until clear red. Can anyone tell me which hose pushes & which hose pulls fluid? or direction?
  11. OK I reset sig & see everything now. Shawn I left a voice mail. But since you are administrator, if someone complains about your service or product, are they banished from here??? No where to be found & no more messages, just poof* mysteriously disappeared ?
  12. I'm a noob, & dont know if I should give any input since I dont know much about soobs, so take my advice with much caution, but if I were in your shoes & dispirit, I think I might try a squirt of starting fluid, & see if engine would run a bit. If it does, then I would think it would rule out timing & ignition & thus I would look at fuel related issue. Remember, starter fluid is highly flammable, :Flame:safety first , have extinguisher near. The best of luck!
  13. Thanks John, Just did the CP & see the timing belt info, in your sig now, which is terrific! because I'll be doing the task shortly!
  14. I'm a noob, Are those good companies or OEM suppliers ? Jap or China?
  15. Do the ebay vendor kits come with the markings on belts? someone told me OEM has markings to assist in proper installation of timing sync. The water pumps from ebay kits, just as good as OEM? And what about drive belts(ac & alt) They good from ebay also?
  16. Where do get the plain ole Green stuff? I dont see it in advance auto stores, nor wally world, autozone etc... They are all extended life coolants or 50/50 mixes. I thought the extended life was a propylene based. I was at tractor supply co & didn't see the " fleetguard" only fleetcharge. The Shellzone looks to be online only.
  17. Good info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antifreeze Notice the GM problems with Dexcool. Soo I found Shellzone is still ethanol based and fleetguard.(maybe more) It is more hazardous but I believe better for our situation.(older Subs, maybe pre 2002? dont know) I know in the diesel forums, most guys are annal about using the right stuff in older diesels that weren't designed yet for the extended life stuff (propylene) I'm pretty sure Tractor Supply Co sells Fleetguard. I want the concentrate so I can get my ratio right! http://www.fleetguard.com/pdfs/product_lit/americas_brochures/go5eg.pdf .
  18. Yup at idle I hear the rear of my alt making strange noise.aprox 144k on odo.
