So this new to me 99 impreza L,(with 147k miles on odo) may not have a functional AWD? When I test drove it, I did a full turned to one side, tight , figure 8 on pavement & could hear and feel wheels scuffing. This was the reason for getting a sub in the first place. (my road is not plowed) . On Edit; my buddy who worked at dealer told when I change fluid in dif, to add the additive, like the old LSD on American cars. My owners manual does not mention anywhere to do this.???? Who's right? The additive is slippery-er right? This kept the old LSD from chattering when making turns, right?

I thought I was leaking trans fluid into radiator coolant. I hooked up air compressor to trans connection on radiator & blocked off outlet. & put 2 latex gloves over coolant in/out ports. (empty on floor) Put 50 lbs or air pressure over night & gloves are still collapsed & air pressure still holding. So maybe my drain pan had some old oil in it before I emptied coolant into it? (floating red oil) So I just wanted to be sure, before I reinstall rad cause I just did timing belt. Should I have put more air pressure to it? > BTW overflow bottle did looked clean.

From what I gather, for my auto 1999, the dextron III is no longer available. I just got this car & want to do all belts seals, & fluids. If I do a 1 time tranny fluid change out with a cheapy fluid, then put in subaru fluid last change out. (maybe putting on a few miles on cheapy fluid & on cheap filter, before doing the Subaru brand filter & fluid)What is a good cheapy to use? Also I was going to use the 2 bucket method, using hoses off the radiator cooler/exchanger, sucking in clean fluid in one full bucket while the other empty bucket catches old fluid, until clear red. Can anyone tell me which hose pushes & which hose pulls fluid? or direction?

I'm a noob, & dont know if I should give any input since I dont know much about soobs, so take my advice with much caution, but if I were in your shoes & dispirit, I think I might try a squirt of starting fluid, & see if engine would run a bit. If it does, then I would think it would rule out timing & ignition & thus I would look at fuel related issue. Remember, starter fluid is highly flammable, :Flame:safety first , have extinguisher near. The best of luck!

Where do get the plain ole Green stuff? I dont see it in advance auto stores, nor wally world, autozone etc... They are all extended life coolants or 50/50 mixes. I thought the extended life was a propylene based. I was at tractor supply co & didn't see the " fleetguard" only fleetcharge. The Shellzone looks to be online only.
