Need some opinions on this car
Bucky92 replied to tidd1340's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Way too much..plus that rust around the windshield is hiding a possible worse problem...under that windshield is probably a mess..i know this from experience..And its just too much..I paid $600 for my 92 Loyale..5 years ago...from a dealer..The ATs bite also..you can find a better deal much cheaper then that -
probably clogged and due to be replaced

Since I stepped up big time ..here is some advantages of going new/newer for DD.Less worries about break downs, dealer support, warrentees, spending more time actually driving and enjoying the car then repairing it, peace of mind, actually being able to get parts without looking to hard. I can say it is SO nice not having to worry about things anymore...it feels so good to work on my car because I WANT to not cause I HAVE to.Its also nice cleaning out my stash of "just in case" parts and reclaiming my garage..getting rid of that mini junk yard look ..Now having the time to actually work on my dirt bike again..or to restore my XT6 the right way instead of always just trying to maintain a DD. On a side note..I get to see what my Imp is like in bad weather today..sleet ,freezing rain, and snow:banana: and I am actually looking forward to it:grin:

Welcome aboard! Subarus can become an obsession...many of us can't own just one ( me, personally, an small time with 2 ) And many of us came from other makes ..like you...got one as a winter beater and just swapped over. ( I was a Ford Mustang person and a truck kinda gal...71 Mach1 Mustang 428 CJ,66 Pony Tang 289, 70 289 coupe..and LOTS of trucks..got an 88 GL for newspaper delivery and have owned Subaru since..9 of them total). there are members who rally their wagons..many like to do an EJ22 swap into them to give them just a weeee bit more umph:cool: :burnout: These are great cars..some of us have a love/hate relationship with one of them but deep down we still love the car or we would get rid of it ( my XT6 case in point) Have fun with it...check out the USRM ( repair manual online tips from those who have done it before) and enjoy!

Now Jon...would I even think about owning an AT??? :-p Of course its manual..If I was going to buy a brand new car I would surely get it the way I wanted and the first thing I think about is getting the 5 spd...to me ATs are worthless boat anchors....but thats just my opinion. And Jon its just a base model 2.5i with a couple accessories and some more to be added in time ( like the sport mesh grill etc.)

Pros and Cons of Dual Range VS. AWD ??
Bucky92 replied to cole098's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have been kinda following this thread abit and am curious about how my 08 will do in the snow..I have always had FWD Subarus and with snows..never had trouble getting through....I bought my XT6 ( 5 spd FT4WD with diff lock) last year for winter travel....and...well...it never saw it cause it was broke down most of the time And now it is being restored so no more winter travel for it allowed. So I will be curious at what symetrical AWD can do. -
LMAO Rory... I love Lindas face when she brought my 08 back from the "test drive" ( Big Smile) And now that the roof rack rattle is fixed its even nicer to drive. But its true..when you are actually sitting in and driving the new stuff...it still feels like a Subaru ..different configuration to the dash but the 08 still felt the same as that 93 232,000 mile Imp that you now have:grin: ..minus the shifter slop:-p . When I drove your 05 T wagon..besides the brown stain in me knickers and the configuration, once again, and the fact it was an AT..I had the feel of my Loyale... The XT6 takes alittle getting used to when swapping around rides..but ..well that thing is just wierd. Maybe thats why its so easy to go straight from old school to new gen without any/many growing pains. OH! and its nice not getting wet when going through the car wash cause of water leaking in the frameless windows..and no window rattle or wind noise either

Thank You! Some of the very few kind words I got about my car.I say...dont knock it till you try it cause its a fantastic car...Its been a long time since I enjoyed driving...and want to drive.. Can't wait to see the pics..I had been thinking on going with a Bugeye before I got the deal on this one..I tell you what..compaired to the old stuff..well all I can say is Subaru is stepping it up.....Big Time.

Also check the CTS..

seems many of us are finally moving up to the new gen stuff for DD and keeping something old gen for the "project" Good choice on stepping up to the 02...Did you get a good warrentee?? Man, I am loving mine.I think thats the best feeling...NOT having to work on the car if something brakes for a change...sending it off and letting someone else do it..on someone elses dime too. I did the same thing..went and bit the bullet..got an 08 Imp 5 door and kept my 88 XT6 for the "toy". Just didnt want to mess with anything around that 15 year or older for a DD. Now you can devote more time and effort to your 77 and not worry about the DD:)

88 GL wagons will be SPFI and D/R . the DL models I am not sure about..the 87 is a hit or miss with the SPFI. Usually if it is a GL or GL-10 model it will have the D/r ...as long as it isnt FWD And I do not believe that the tranny is the same between EA81s and EA82 but for some reason I think you can interchange them..I am sure others will chime in

Show off your roos Mileage!
Bucky92 replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
08 Imp 5 door...914 miles now:grin: My XT6 is up to 30K on the new motor -
That rust is nothing....honestly..I would grind it out...POR-15 it or any other rust preventor...make sure its all cleaned up and either weld or pop-rivet some new metal and then just glass or bondo over it smooth and shape and repaint it...That car is beautiful..specially for an east coast car What I explained is how I fixed a worse rust spot than that in my XT6: Bad bad old repair job ^ After repair And finally..the finished car: And should I also mention I am a girl and except for a spot that was welded on the floor ( cause I didnt have a welder at the time...but I do now) all the work on the car was done by me. You can fix that..I would say it would take a weekend to do it( and thats allowing time for stuff to dry) That car is too beautiful
