  1. Locktite it, its a 21MM bolt head and use a lot of torque. (120 ft lbs.)
  2. You need to inspect the timing belt components. Specifically on California and 2000 and later cars the Drivers side cam gear (L) and the crank gear are different and they talk to the cam and crank angle sensors differently. There are more teeth on the crank gear and different teeth on the cam gear. The passenger side ® gear doesnt really matter. You can swap the crank angle sensor and gear from your car along with the cam angle sensor and gear from your car to make it work. You should also leave the ECM from your car in, it should work as well.
  3. Not that im aware of, I typically just stick another one on to rule it out. The K&N cone filters have been known to cause some problems with them.
  4. Theres a vac gauge test you can do. Do a search for posts by me that have vac gauge/cat converter in them.
  5. Thats not really uncommon on returns being shipped back at customer expense.
  6. That is pretty. I dont personally like that color and I still think its pretty! Love the emblems too. Im currently re-badging mine as mine is getting an ej22 instead of the ea81 turbo.
  7. ShawnW replied to bridorf's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
2wd, 4wd, turbo, non. What letters do you have? I have access to around 20 of these units from that era and probably have an exact match.
  8. You should consider an aftermarket rack. Its easily removed, stronger, and comes with a huge range of accessories that you can attach to it. Brands like: Rocky Mounts Thule Yakima Saris All of these companies last I checked sold a Gutter mount type roof rack. I have an extra if you are looking, fits an ea car and is a Yakima. PM for details.
  9. Pull the Left Front fender, dash, AC and heater boxes before attempting to yank the harness. The harness comes thru the car at the firewall in two major places, one is behind the Heat/AC box, the other is the drivers side grommet that is in the corner of the firewall and comes up into the side of the car under the LF fender. Be patient and gentle with plugs especially if they are directly on the engine. Not all plugs squeeze to open, some have a tab you have to pull UP and then gently pull the plug apart (Ex: The Large 2 or 3 Intake plugs) Everything must be from the same donor car to insure reliable service but if you break something with a Subaru part number on it PM me and I will try to get you a copy of the compatability list for the item you broke or was broken in the accident. Potential things like: ignitor, Air flow meter, ECU, etc. Dont forget to grab these off the donor car: O2 sensor Evap canister Entire throttle cable Alternator PS Pump if you have PS AC compressor if you are running AC
  10. Take em apart at the hinge and put em in a garbage bag, then dumpster.
  11. Your black connectors aren't plugged in? Either way those are all the codes since the battery was disconnected, not necessarily current problems. I would disconnect the battery and drive it for 3-5 minutes and see what "new" ones come up.
  12. Do the valve adjust again. Leadfootracin is really on the money if you ask me.
  13. You have the cams, they just cut them.
  14. Yup, 84 and newer its on the sunvisor, 83 and older have it in the glovebox.
  15. That must be the black connector readout. Thats every code since the battery was disconnected. Not a good indicator usually. If you have a CEL plug the green's together and report findings. I suspect the air flow meter. When they are flaking out they cause a lack of idle. What kind of air filter setup are you using?
  16. I think this is definately worthy of posting but I dont think its USRM worthy. Moving post to Older gen of Subaru's.
  17. Yup, pull the cluster and the light bulb twists out. Time consuming but easy.
  18. Your code reader wont work with the battery dead. If you have a bunch of keys on your keyring try removing all but the ignition key and driving that way. Your ignition switch may be getting wiggled internally to off momentarily and when you touch the key and return it to on it works for a while again. BTW if that fixes the problem replace the ign switch. It will get worse and return eventually.
  19. Ive got family out in Iowa too. Im kindof quiet in the car though....I think you'd drive me nuts!
  20. U joint in the driveshaft isn't uncommon.
  21. I dont see why you couldnt.
  22. I feel that! If you need an ea81T disty I have one. I didnt even think about it at the time when you were down my way.
