  1. Smog and plates today. Still dying on idle at stops, gotta try an IAC replacement now and see if that helps.
  2. DO NOT USE THE BOLTS TO DRAW THEM TOGETHER. You can do MAJOR damage to the transmission, clutch and pressure plate doing this. Make sure you arent hitting the motor mount studs on the crossmember. if you are the trans isnt jacked up enough. Get the bottom studs aligned with the holes in the tranny and then step to each side of the car and look to see that the bellhousings are EXACTLY parallel to each other. If they aren't correct the easiest thing (probably the engine) such that the angle is more condusive. Most of the time when you are fighting this tooth and nail its because the chain on the hoist isnt set at the proper angle for the engine to hang at that proper slant. its magic when it goes together and you get better every time you try. Be sure to use a good clutch alignment tool and that you can EASILY get the alignment tool in after you torque the pressure plate.
  3. Its a 5/8 spark plug socket. Hardware store should have a socket for you. No need for a wobble on the socket if you ask me. 4.2-4.5 quarts with filter change.
  4. Ej22 Ftw... you know, something reliable and with 1 timing belt that rarely breaks, a coilpack ignition, and regular unleaded pump prices?
  5. Step 1. Beg to borrow or buy an engine hoist from someone. Step 2. Pull engine from car.
  6. Im pretty sure its stuffed up in the dash next to the ECU.
  7. Already got em and im thinking ill debadge the liftgate of anything VW and put the URABUS on the back.
  8. Sure! PM me for a phone number to use when you are out here.
  9. Bumper corner covers on 3 corners (LF, RF and LR)....
  10. Buy a copy of how to keep your subaru alive. The first edition would cover yours VERY well and it has a wonderful section on how to look at a used car.
  11. Junkyard (pull a part type) and get an Audi or Porsche trans you like. Then an adapter plate from kennedyeng.com to put a Subaru engine in is available to mate to a VW/Audi trans so maybe they sell VW to Mazda adapters.....doubt it but try. What does this have to do with Subaru?
  12. Thats gorgeous and local to me. Oh well I like mine fine!
  13. Ive rebuilt a lot of them and we use OEM gaskets and copper spray with no issues. Remember the source, they "cure" premature head gasket failure with stop leak. "Cooling system conditioner"
  14. Finally posting a photo. The oil marks on the driveway are from my Toyota, not the URABUS.
  15. Unplug the battery and I think youre pretty safe. Keeping the ground lead as close to what you weld is important too.
  16. I feel your pain. I showed up in a Toyota alot of times. This time a VW but its the heart that counts.
  17. Forgot to get a speed sensor so it won't idle when warm and thus I cant take it over to smog it. Ordered it tonight. The first major snafu I need to address is the fuel tank. It obviously hasnt been filled FULL in years....I filled it today and a 4.5' diameter puddle of unleaded showed its ugly face on the ground when the pump kicked off. I think this is probably common just gotta see if the tank is rotted or if the vent hose that probably comes off the top is screwed up.
  18. Pull up 1 click on ebrake cable. Do a search please. Thread is being closed because its been covered ALOT in the past and its known to cause a big debate on safety, insurance precautions, whether or not its legal (you are disabling a safety related item), etc. BTW: Focus on something else your gas mileage isn't dropping a significant amount.
  19. Bringing back to the top, wanted to find the date (May 21st) again.
  20. Shes ready to go apply for plates and smog now. Shes burped and the last few connections will take under 10 minutes prior to leaving. 3 months later shes ready to roll but thats a lot of procrastination.
  21. How many inches is it and is it combo of body and suspension or just one?
  22. Theres an 81 Brat down here at the yard. 4x4 with 1800. PM for details on where it is.
