I wonder if a change in the AWD clutches or engagement from older to newer models delays or reduces the chances of torque bind over the life of the car????

I think it has to do with the torque curve of the boxster engine and the gear ratio of the 1st gear and final drives. mmmmmmmm.... torque

Our MY95 Legacy always seem to have "tighter" AWD than our MY01 Outback Ltd. I find myself using 1 & 2 to get the 50/50 more in the '01 for less front wheel slippage than in the '95.

You gotta admit that the frameless windows make for easy break-ins when you lock the doors with the key inside!!

I agree with Josh, You didn't say how long you've owned this car or what year it is, so how many miles you put on the car per year could make your mind up for you. CCR is a great place for a replacment motor, and I don't want to take away business from them :-\... but if you only put 12 to 15k per year on it, there is no reason not to expect another 6-8 years and around 200k out of the original engine. If you stay with the original, don't forget the timing belt, if it wasn't done already.

Check your license plate and make sure it is secure too.

I bought the trailer that folds in half from harbor freight about 3 years ago. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42709 I got the 8" wheel version because I trailer locally and didn't expect any long trips. I've use it about 20 or so times but only a couple at capacity. Worked very well on the back of my 01 Outback Ltd. and figure it's paid for itself and the hitch.

Check you tire pressure. You could try letting a couple of pounds of pressure out of tires all around and see if that helps. If you run a little over inflated it can effect the braking in snow.

Silly question but how much gas is in the tank? Any chance the fuel pickup is now above the gas level? You did say you were on a pretty good tilt.

While the mechanic is there have them check the oil pump and front oils seals. Much cheaper to have them serviced now than later. You might also want the headgaskets checked for external leaks. If the car was treated with the coolant additive, it was covered by SOA to 100K. You would be out of the coverage, buy if it is evidence of leakage you might want to have a dealership look at it.

Our 95, 98 and 2001 ALL stink on cold mornings. I usually catch a wiff while backing out of the driveway. You can try switching brands of gas but oxygenated winter mix and the blended gasoline are just a bit stinky until your cats warm up to temp. and the engine gets to operating teperature

I just did a run in our MY02 OBW from Delaware to Ohio via the PA turnpike. The way out I cruised at 80+ MPH with the RPMs at 3000-3200 and got 24 MPG. On the way back I slowed it down to 70-75 with the RPMs at 2600-2800 and shot up to 28 MPG, it took me and hour longer to get home.

I Agree with Nipper. I have a MY95 Legacy that throws that code every 6-12 months. If I reset it, I can go for another 6-12 months before the CEL comes back on. No difference in performance or gas milage, however it has over 150K miles on it, so I guess I could replace the O2 sensor........ **Yawn**....... just too lazy. zzz

If I were you I'd reset using the "battery dance" and see if the CEL returns or if your lucky it won't at least for a while.

Could be a bad connection on the temp sensor. Check the wiring itself and make sure it's secure. That would explain an intermittent problem.

Hmmmmm... you could clean it up and get some dielectric grease and coat the end of the bulb and the socket to see if you can stop the corrosion. As for the source of the brown gunk, I'm stumped.

The oil separator number that I have is 11831AA150 but I'm not sure if it's for the metal one. The number supercides another so I think it is.

Dr. RX is correct... take it to a dealer or subie specific shop for a diagnosis.

Hope you had the dealer put the additive in when the TSB was issued.:-\ If so, it's on record and you should have the dealer check it out. It does sound like the external leak symptoms.

Sounds like you may have a wrong sized or poorly rebuilt half-shaft. Use the search functions and search for "shaft shake" or similar key words. Here's one link that popped up for me: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42567&highlight=shaft+shake

Take it back to the shop that did the headgaskets and have them pull the codes.
