  1. Neat feature but never used it except to show off how many features the GL has Maybe if I lived in Duluth or San Fransicso I'd use it. Mine has been disconnected since my 4WD conversion and havent missed it one bit. I'd like to remove it all together. Think I might have got some air traped in it with my last brake bleeding fiasco.
  2. One belt is fine. Been doing that for years now on the same belt. I also removed the power steering and ran a different length belt. Only accessories on my block now are water pump, oill pump and alternator Doubleing it up with a 2 belt pulley on the alternator would be neat but not required.
  3. What about swaping on front calipers in the rear and running a cable actuated rear e brake? That was my morning brain fart.... excuse me
  4. That's a pretty seriouse snorkal. Little to tall for my taste but you didnt build it for me! haha Nice work on the stainless steal. Looks very pro. What other waterproofing have you done to the engine? Thx
  5. Dang, today was trash day.... Oh well! Thanks for the info however Maybe I'll fix one from a junkyard hehe.
  6. I honestly wonder how many rear seat belts on these old Subarus are NO LONGER SAFTEY RESTRAINING DEVICES! Mine were so rusted out where the main backing palte of the seat belt is bolted to the fender well that one good tug on them and they ripped CLEAN ouff the car. Took the whole backing plate and everything. Take a look either up inside your rear fender wells from outside the car or pull away the plastic trim behind the belt from inside the car (should all just snap in / snap out there) and look for holes, rust and such. I can no longer have passangers in my rear seats, safely
  7. Tried fixing mine that recently broke on me. Ended up swearing at it and throwing it in the garbage Good luck!
  8. Figure out what all them there fancy switches and such do on the 5spd dual range? Inquireing, yet lazy, minds would like to know Thx U !_!
  9. Intake manifold gaskets will blow lots of perdy white smoke too. Check those b efore you start pulling heads
  10. I dont think those pipes are legal Kinda ugly but the plow is very cool. Just noticed its in Austin MN; my neck of the woods. Maybe I'll see it in person
  11. The only limitations in a Subaru are the ones you set for yourself or belive others have set As noted above; there are lots of levels to offroading. Even my lifted GL wagon is just a trail rider and to me that's "Offroading". I'ts no rock climber and I found first hand it's no mud bogger but that doesnt mean they can not be such things. Others have gone to such levels and made the modifications to make it happen. A Forester would supprise a lot of people with the right nut behind the wheel. I would have NO worries "offroading" a Forester; or any other Subaru. Got plenty dirty in stock 2WD Subarus. If you are worried about breaking stuff; well then you gotta pay to play... that's offroading !_!
  12. I have had a '90 Legacy\ overheat that fast. This was due to a bad thermostat. Darn things like to stick SHUT instead of OPEN. Things heat up mighty quick when that happens. Another good reason for the jiggle valve or drilling your own hole. Short of a complete coolant blockage; youre right it really shouldnt heat up THAT fast. A fualty sending unit or guage is not out of the question but there are other details. Verify that it really is overheating. I bet the overflow tank developed that slight leak after she's been boiling over into there. When it's hot enough to boil over there is quite a bit of pressure and man is that stuf HOT. Fans working properly? Look at the radiator from under the hood between the fan blades; all the fins in GOOD shape? Especially down low look for corrosion and decaying. How about the hoses? I've had a pin hole leak in those that holds upto the pressure untill it gets just a little too hot and bam overheat/boil over. Finally the hose gave out and it was obviouse. Lokoing really close I found another pin hole and the wals of the entire hoses were weak. Amazing what new hoses and good clamps can do!
  13. Sounds like you are hot on its trail Done some stuff, had some progress, but overall problem persists. A fresh mind and new angle from taking a day away might help You have done a partial tune up. Complete that tune up with a dist cap and rotor, fuel filter(s), PCV valve, oil and filter... you get the idea I agree with quadruple checking those vacume lines !_! Are you using those wussy old spring clamps on everything? CEL light on? EGR light on? Also how many miles you put on her now? After sitting a year they can just be cranky for a couple hundred miles. Good luck
  14. I'm sure jacking it up where the manual says was fine before the rust set in I try to use crossmembers or subframes to jack and use jack stands. Jacking on the rear diff put a lot of strain on the mounting so I dont like using it to jack the rear up. I'm sure it wont break anything but I just don't prefer doing it that way. If you must jack it up on the unibody to do some major work on stuff then use some wide flat pieces of wood as a buffer. Helps spread out the weight so you dont end up with a jack stand in your cabin and a Subaru on your leg
  15. I should start a thread everytime I foul up some spark plugs and say 'those darn NGKs!!!' But lets beat this dead horse one last time
  16. I bet some dudes who worked with large Fuji Heavy Ind. earth moving equipment put big tires on their 4WD subarus just to get to work!
  17. uhhh nothing to see there, move along please... Ya some people are SO inconsiderate. There are a few old CARcases laying around the grounds
  18. Thats some custom action there; very well done! Love the intercooler !_!
  19. Hey thanks! Sure beat going to work that day Thankfully I was only stuck for about 45 minutes and we were back to offroading.
  20. Duders in Austrailia have been doing it for decades. Might start there ?
  21. 22. No stickers or ANY saftey requirments. Roy just lets ppl on his land. $10 donation per vehicle and signing his waiver is all you need to do. There is a large trailhead to chill out at and other open lots we could have lunch at. Lots of stuff for modified AND stock vehicles! All are welcome !_! Here are some pictures of the terrain: http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0001.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0002.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0006.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0013.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0017.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0018.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0025.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0041.JPG http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/usmb/jun04_roys_playground/PICT0043.JPG
