  1. They completly replace the bleeders in your brake caliper cylinder or your rear drum brake cylinder. Usually you just bust loose the 'nipple' (bleeder) on the brake and manually open/close it with a wrench to bleed your brakes. Keep wrentching untill you can pull out the bleeder, screw in the speed bleeder and you are good to go. Says right on the box how to properly use them. Basicly you just barely bust them loose, bleed that line, and tighten it back down. Its magik
  2. Hey this isnt off the beaten path It really can help get ALL the air out. What sucks is if you are doing a 2 man bleed with one operating the manual bleeders its harder to time it so you dont suck air back in. ALso have to remember the simple things like having the garage door open and making sure you dont get a face FULL of brake fluid. That booster really shoots it out! With the speed bleeders and the engine running the booster is your friend. Those little buggers are a God send Truely makes it a one man bleed system.
  3. http://www.westcoaststompers.com/ click on subaru modifications > tire information
  4. Cut what you can off, bondo it up, sand it down and paint it over. This isnt a show car
  5. This makes a big difference. For an EA82 wagon I can tell you GO for it. I bolted on 15" pug steels and even with their negative offset I fit 30"x9.5" widetrack baja radials. With more positive offset rims you could go wider. To make room I beat in the front fender wells on the unibody good and cut the front fenders in half right at the trim seams. Also trimmed the front half of the rear fenders just along the door line. Rear doors didnt need to be cut and they still seal against the unibody. I now run 29"x8.5" and have plenty of room. I'm looking at how to fund some REAL tires under there. Going to bump upto a real mud terrain tire and will go 30" for sure. Hoping to find the rims I want so I could go 10.5" wide with out rubbing on the struts. Would love to have Super Swamper TSL in the rear and Kumho Venture MT up front. Yummm..
  6. It's quite possible but I doubt it. The brake cylinder at the rear caliper is much smaller than the brake cylinder on the front caliper.
  7. Get access to a timing light or you are just shotting i nthe dark here. See if your timing is even off. How can you advance it exactly 2 degrees when you cant even see the degrees? It's all guessing untill you have a timing light pointed at your fly wheel. Your warm up symtoms could certainly be related. Sounds like the issue is magnified when the engine is cold. Mine behaves similarly right now but I've neglected the issue hehehe I just floor it becuase going partial throttle just makes it hesitate worse but WOT it runs great !_! Just to be sure this is the EA82 with SPFI and no carberuator right? Maybe some dude before you set the timing to carb spec (8 degreet BTDC) instead of SPFI spec (20 degree BTDC) which would make a huge difference in acceleration. Again who knows untill you shoot a timing light at it Good luck!
  8. Yeah glazed up pads wont do anything to the feel of your pedal. Speed bleeders and the proper bleeding sequence should set you up.
  9. So far I've hit stuff deep enough bury it upto the timing belts. Last weekend I hit some mud lumpy enougn to rip off the fuel pump BUT the clamped on custom speed bleeders still hold on I'll have to see if I can find some speed bleeders for the rear calipers I'm putting on. Then I wouldnt need the hose and clamps. I'll reply to this post if I get the part # of a direct swap. If this brake job is anything like my last one I'll be bleeding for a while. Never let the master cylinder go dry!
  10. BLEED ON BROTHA I've bleend quarts of brake fluid through my GL wagon alone. I"ve even 'bench bled' the master cylinder a couple times. It really can take a LONG time There is hope! You can get 'speed bleeders' that replace your stock bleeders in the front caliper cylinders. For the rear you can do up some custom ones (since they dont make a direct replacement). Here is a link to my post on them. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=16029&highlight=speed+bleeder Good luck
  11. Not much room up in there Have you tried sneaking in the box end of a wrench? Then you can slip over a piece of pipe for a cheater bar and get some seriouse leverage to bust it loose. Make sure its on straight with that kind of leverage. Quick way to round off a nut if it's not on square! They also make jointed/swivl adapters to go between your socket and driver. This will give you more wiggle action
  12. You want higher octane with a turbo or super charger because as you build boost you increase your running compression ratio. This running compression ratio can quickly exceed the rating of low octane fuel.
  13. Not a big fan of cherry bombs. Ran couple of them on my Subaru. They do not hold upto abuse well (I dented mine offroading a lot) and are pretty poorly crafted internally. I perfer the Trush glass pack. A lot more thought went into the design and a lot more into the actual consturction. Just looking down the tube you can see a thought out design. The louvers are in a rifled pattern and the construction materials are beefier. The price is very comparable. Glass packs are usually $20 for the 48" ones where as cherry bombs are $15. Well worth the extra few bucks in my book
  14. I run castrol gtx 10w30 and purelator filters (when i can find them! )
  15. It will last as long as you want it too. My '88 GL should be at a junkyard right now. Blew up the engine a long time ago. Rebuilt it and just keep replacing stuff as I go. She'll go untill I wont make her go any more. Same with your car
  16. 1) Have to get the silly splash guard out of the way. Might have some turn and drop fasteners or small bolts (10mm) holding it to the body. If you can not get to it easily then you will have to jack it up. I'ld try w/o jacking it up first. 2) 14mm is what the Subaru tech said 3) Filter is right up front and easily noticed from below. Doubt you could miss it or mistake it for anything else. Same with the oil pan. It's dead center of the engine and the drain plug is on the bottom of it. 4) See #1 5) This is coverd in your owners manual under Capacities section I belive Glad to see you opted for the H6 3.0 !_! That's quite a bit of NA power I bet. Also nice to see you doing this yourself and really enjoying every aspect of owning a tricked out Subaru.
  17. Where are you in Minnesota? I'm in the twin cities. If we are close enough we should just meet up and I'll show you everything involved. You can also see how rusty mine is and I think youll feel a lot safer in your rig
  18. Took me a week to do the conversion (and I didnt have to do the pedal assembly cuz I already have a 5spd in there) with myself and a friend working about 4 hours a night. This was going from a FWD 5spd GL wagon to a 4WD DR 5spd GL wagon. Pretty similar swap but youll have more work with the pedal assembly and running the cables upto your tranny and hil holder (if you got one) Why are you pulling the SPFI? If it runs I say leave it be for now. No need to do a drive train conversion AND motor pull/install. Also foget the other upgrades at that time. They will just take longer and cuase more issues. Do you have to install all the Loyale junk into your GL to drive it off? Or is it junkyard time for that old goat? That will take even more time getting it all in your GL and running since youd esentially be doing 2 converstions then. If you want to do it ALL at the same time then do it in your garage over a couple weeks as you have time. Then you could do the drivetrain swap, pull the motor and seal her up, reinstall the motor and get it running, do the rear springs and the rear disc conversion. You'd have one fully pimped wagon by then. Ready for some biger rims and big tires !_! Let me know what weekend you do it if you are gonna go for the blitzqrieg swap and I might be able to come help on that SAT night or something. Peace
  19. Maybe we should all shoot for this event? Joe: I have heard of Ma and Pa Rocker's. There was a guy at the last MN4WD Association meeting with a black shirt that said "I servived Ma and Pa Rockers!" I talked to him about it some what and it sounds like a neat place.
