  1. I don't know how big your shoes are for the shoestring budget, but you can certainly modify your exhaust for cheap. If nothing else, gut your cat.
  2. Look at an ad for a car-detailing shop for some select nouns and adjectives that may help in your description. Things like "show-room new" come to mind.
  3. If you EVER see one from 1983, let me know.
  4. It sounds like either a hardspot in the rotor/ warped rotors, or the pads were improperly installed originally.
  5. When you attempt to stop, how does it feel? Is it smooth? Does it hop? Are there strange squeals or scraping noises? Any clunks?
  6. You can run 14 or 15" rims and not have to trim the fenders depending on the tire size you use. With a 4/3 Ozzified kit, you have a lot of options. There is some good info on a thread I started about a month ago on tire size. You might look at that.
  7. When I saw the title of this thread, I thought maybe you were talking about some of my old girlfriends.
  8. What, I believe, you are talking about is the corner trim on your windshield. It "connects" the side and bottom trim pieces together. It is merely a "L" shaped piece of plastic with a little leg on the back side that clips around the shield and sits in the urethane. If you remove it and it didn't leak before, it shouldn't leak after. To ensure it doesn't, put more urethane in before you replace it. Glue it down well.
  9. One thing to consider are the costs down the road. I know what the costs to maintain a Subaru are (approximately), but don't know what the Passat will run. I do know that if you lose your keys to a Passat, it'll set you back $250 for a replacement. How's that for starters?
  10. You folks can all be thankful that you (apparently) don't have to deal with emissions inspections on your vehicles. I'd love to have the problems of how to hook up a weber, but I would never make it through the IM test with one on.

See, I knew someone would get it. The name came to ne in the middle of the night and someone had already beat me to it.
  12. You can always cut it off with a serrated knife and reapply it with urethane glue - just surface apply it.

Scott, the Ozzified websiyte are body lifts. If you are looking for a Legacy lift, suspension especially, PM Mudrat. He lives in Oregon, I believe, and will do the installation and all of the fab up (for a price, of course). Other than that, there is an Aussie site other than BYB's site that sells lifts but I don't believe they are suspension kits. Subaru Brat knows quite a bit about suspension lifts - check out his rig. You may also want to visit with Zapar. He's done a number of lifts, mostly Ozzified body lifts, but he's pretty skookum on lift advise. Good luck with the hunt. Someone else will chime in withthe name of the other lift provider that I can't think of right now.
  14. Thosa are sweet. So you say it sits on thew street? Overnight? What time do you go to sleep?
  15. It all boils down to one word: confidence. When I bought my Brat in Oregon, I asked Richie if it would make it back to Alaska without any problems. There was no hesitation - YES. I jumped in and drove straight here, 2,400 miles. This winter, in -30 degrees, I drove it to and from Fairbanks (about 700 miles round trip) with no hesitation. It started at -50 degrees without even being plugged in. Being stranded here, where a person could be 50 miles from civilization and not see a vehicle go by for 3 or 4 hours, is a reality. It's not something to fear. Just prepare for it. What diffeence is thee if you break down 5 miles from home or 500? If you can't fix it, it'll have to be towed. Just prepare for the inevitable and things will work out.
  16. My 83 Brat does not have an overflow tank; just an overflow hose that dispenses it onto the garage floor. But mine has never gone above half on the temp indicator.
  17. Mick and Hillbilly, thanks. I haven't done any griding, but I pounded the snotout of the inner fender wall to alow forthe inward movement of the strut. Got some more ideas now. Thanks again.
  18. Also, side mirrors and mudflaps, if decent.
  19. Vent louvers, if they're in decent shape.
  20. I took great pains to ensure the strut extensions were installed correctly. I'm wondering if the mechanic who did the alignment knows $#*% from shinola on his camber numbers. I thought the odometer was probably the same as the speedo. Thanks.
  21. Thanks for the info. There is an idea to put in along with lift kit install instructions. And the hunt is on for the speedo correction connection. Thanks again.
  22. Jon, What a bummer. Your logic is sound (I can't answer your concerns for certain) in that you're providing an anchor to the front wheel assembly and some sense of suspension. If only for a short time, it shouldn't be a big deal, except that it might ride really funky. Keep it under 90 and you should be all right.
  23. 1. Thanks for the suggestions. What I think I'm hearing is that I'll have to elongate the holes in the tops of the strut towers to guess at the correct location for the correct camber. I can play around with that; I just don't want to weaken that area. 2. Do you have any clue wherea guy could find such a reducer? Since I'm going to install a 5 spd tranny, I might as well do it then. Cost? Thanks.
  24. Don't tell me I stumped the experts on these two questions
