  1. I posted another thread, but the quick and dirty is that you use the flywheel and pressureplate from the same engine, ie if its an EA-81 use the ea-81 flywheel and pressure plate, if your installing an EA-82 tranny, like the 5 spd dual range use the EA-82 clutch and throw out bearing, the pilot bearings are the same for both flywheels.
  2. the slave cylinder would only work on the newer cars with a hydro clutch, there really isn't much you could do, except possibly extending your pedal a few inches, that would multiply the torque from your foot. with the cable theres not too much you and do.
  3. i watched that movie just this saturday, i spent more time on that deleted scene then the rest of the movie, it was heaven. i was trying to explain it to my friend that i was watching it with, he just didn't understand. its funny he thought that the green toyota was a brat, and when i saw the coupe i almost flipped.

Yeah i figured that i've had enough problems with this build up that i would try to keep everyone else from getting burned, i have to wait 3-5 days for the parts store to "special order one" but i'll have an extra TO bearing and clutch surface with the kit so i guess those will be up for grabs if someone needs them.
  5. I know that we have rehashed the issue quite a bit, but there are some issues that have not been solved. The EA series flywheel is a stepped flywheel, and the steps for the two flywheels are different. EA-81 7/8 step EA-82 3/4 step This difference makes it impossible to use the EA-82 pressure plate with the EA-81 Flywheel, ShawnW take note. The Quick and dirty: If you cross EA series engines and transmissions, use the Flywheel and Pressure plate from the same engine, and the Clutch and pilot bearing that goes with the transmission. Which now brings up another question, which throw out bearing do i use, its an EA-81 with the EA-81 pressure plate mated to a 5spd D/R
  6. you pretty much get what you pay for. i've got KC's and i really like them, but i don't think that there that much better than the kmart autozone brand. hella's and piaa's are pretty expensive but work really well. the big issue around here is theft, so i painted mine red, but its cheaper to get the bargain brand. if your feeling really ambitious, you can use the single range push button in a dual range as the switch for the relay, its neet to shift the lights on, on the fly.

  8. I was planning on my engine swap being 3-4 hours, its been stuck in my friends garage for the last 5 weeks. don't be too hard on yourself
  9. are the specs that much different than the Ea-81? cause they don't seem to have many specs on hand does anyone know what they are?

Ok so i'm using an EA-81 flywheel with all other EA-82 parts into a 5spd Dual range, my question is what is the step depth, between where the bolts mount and where the clutch surface rides. cause if its too big, it'll slip like i have now, but if its too thin, i'll have it stick, and being in GM central no one knows anything about it. anyone know the spec?
  11. I had it worse in my wagon, had about a foot between the dash and the roof, only lost the windshield though, should be easy enough to jack out and replace, it looks to be worth it.

    most lift, no fooling with axles is the 3 inch from PK davis in san diego, easy idiot proof swap, i did it in an afternoon, the 8+ with a t-case gets into fabrication which is not cheep, even if you do it yourself, 3 inch lift plus a good set of 28 inch tires will be a good start, and any bigger and without a t-case you loose all gearing
  15. when its cold, its running in cold enrichment mode to keep it running, it'll do that, if it does it too long the temp sender for the computer may be bad. as far as the warm restart, it could be the same thing, if the computer reads that its warm it won't cold idle enrich, but it then finds out that it needs to enrich more that it thought to keep the engine running. on a random tangent when's the last time you've replaced your fuel filter, that could cause some issues with the fuel system, its always the best place to start.
  16. I'm down in Big Rapids, i think you may be close, i am currently immobile but by friday i should be on the road again, if you need help i got manuals and a buch of EA-82 SPFI parts if you need those too.

I have the same problem with my cv boot, about a dime sized rip. after doing an R+R on the axle and the front wheel bearings and dealing with the wrong axle, they gave me a turbo axle, i poped the boot with the control arm. i put some silicon black on it but it didn't work. i'm thinking ductape or somthing similar may be the answer.

  19. an early EA-81 wagon probably a DL with the 3rd light is on page 42 in maxim, theres three pics. the guy jumps a subie while getting dragged behind a car, its good work, the car, not the jump.
  20. a lot of the bigger stuff on these subies is 22, i'd go with that first, i'm sure someone else knows exact
  21. Fox brand has subaru go-karts, the rest of the cart looks pretty shoddy, but the engine has the best warranty in the inustry. i'd get one, but i find it hard to justify spending more on a gocart than my car

I'll be honest i love subaru's, but the car wouldn't have its appeal if it wasn't for the board and the community we have. i'd say that 50% of the experience is the car and 50% is the people, without the board this would just be another car, albeit one that could go anywhere and do anything and do it cheaply and look good doing it.
  23. you should see if austin would do it for a flatrate cost, if you get the parts. he may be too busy and i don't want to volunteer him but he's got the skill and won't charge too much, i hope.
  24. so the car runs, pics will be up soon, but the clutch isn't catching very well, it slips real bad, i should have prepped the flywheel and used a new clutch, but thats not the big problem. the car is running uber rich, its the same carb as the old engine but it seems to run way rich, black smoke out the tail pipe, its got bigger jets than stock, i think around 165-170 which was to make up for the bigger valves higher compression and better cam, oh well i'll get back to it later this week. so if anyone has a suggestion for me, i'm listening. BTW the engine feels like its loosing a cylinder on the road and then it suddenly comes back, weird, oh well its out of the garage for the first time in a month. thank you Tony, from Va, theres lots of tonys on the board, for the dipstick tube, came today right on time.
  25. all good info, when i get the chance, which may not be until thursday, i'm gonna redo the timing, ie get it not 180 out and try to advance the timing, i think i have it at 12-14 now i didn't want to go too far. but i'll inch it up and see if that helps. My pcv is old, i may pick up a new one and see if that helps too.
