  1. owners were an older couple, who bought it new. fairly decent shape. the door was backed into by someone else.
  2. a friend of mine found a Brat with no plates sitting behind a Ford dealership, but it had already been "totalled" by Insurance Company becasue they couldn't find door glass or body parts. pass. door was dented and glass broken, and tailgate was dented. It's a '82 GL. I talked to a couple different people at the insurance company, but could not get it out of the process it was in. hopefully it goes to Auction and someone gets it. Insurance company just directed me to copart.com to watch for it.
  3. I was reminded of my statement in 2008 that my SPFI setup was coming in the summer of '09 yeah, not there yet... at least you are moving forward... I'm just stuck.
  4. the Red beast is now gone. no time to deal with it. what was salvaged before it's departure: 14" RW gold alloys Brushguard Weber 32/36 Intake Manifold Alternator & bracket distributor coil power steering pump Yakima cross bars Yakima rain gutter towers with locks
  5. he had it fixed, but then traded it in to get the latest one.
  6. looking good. if you want any more peace of mind on the fuel pump, you could put an RV solenoid in place with a switch to kill entire vehicle power. when I rolled my Brat over last year, the first thing I did was hit my ignition kill switch to stop my pump (no ECU to take care of it for me, plus crappy '82 stock wiring), then I hit my kill switch for whole vehicle.
  7. the king is right. there's a gear ratio link here that lists ratios. http://www.indysworld.com/80s/ the original USRM link on the same page might have something on it too....
  8. well, the parts I'm keeping are the engine and trans. I already pulled the 14" alloys off it, and replaced with 13" alloys. Ben (The Dude Abides) is getting the brushguard, interior stuff, and maybe lift parts, or whatever else he wants before the final destruction...
  9. I got my 87 parts wagon out of the garage, and got it running. just needed a jump, and it fired right up. still smoking of course since it needs headgaskets, but I thought I'd check the radiator... nice pudding mixture. very thick. looks like it will need to be trailered to it's next location instead of driven... guess that last 30 mile trip to get it here did in the coolant.
  10. precisely why I still keep my uninstalled SPFI setup around. I still want to install, but after going solid axle and coil/link suspension, the weber with the float tweaked for offroad, runs much better because I'm not lifting wheels off the ground and tipping as far anymore.
  11. others have done it. to go from the 4 to 2 though, it's best to have the core support from a 2 light setup so the light buckets, etc... all line up. I suppose you could hack it up and fab in new areas to accept the large round buckets too, but getting everything lined up properly could be problematic.
  12. I saved the pic of the one on the Brat to add to the wheel page as a secondary reference.
  13. I have decided this beast is not long for this world... Brushguard will be staying in Iowa. I may end up selling the gold 14" alloys, but will keep them for now. Engine and trans will be put on shelf as spares. may try to salvage some lift blocks. depends on how much of a roller it need to be for my "removal service"
  14. here's a couple non-street ones
  15. No more of any of these: broken struts, broken torsion bars, broken oil pressure sender, bent mustache bar, broken half-shafts front or rear, burnt clutch, broken stub shift in rear diff. I miss rolling in a stockish lifted soob sometimes, but the above list of stuff I don't have to deal with more than makes up for it.
  16. I think there's another thread showing the wiring I used... if you have the installation manual, you need to use the magentic pickup wiring instructions.
  17. it didn't. The vinyl cargo cover was more pvc and less vinyl and didn't really look like it was gonna hold up without instantly ripping, so we abandoned that idea. Plus, my hi-lift stiull sticks up past the top yet, and I need to change the mount location first... after the beating it has taken this year, plus the rust continuing to eat away at it, I have to do some bodywork on it this winter. tailgate is barely operational now, and can see the tires through both footwells. fenders could probably use a bit more trimming too starting to see some grooves cut into the lugs. not deep, but it is happening. This thing just loves the trail twisties that leaf sprung rigs lift tires on...
