'82 Brat: Solid Axle Build *** DONE! :) ***
front spring retainers are done, and passenger seat mounted in place... it's raised up about 1.5" higher than stock to clear the new tunnel.... I drove it down to the exhaust shop yesterday when traffic was light... brakes don't leak anymore, but need about 3 pumps to grab... the shop is gonna get it all bled for me as well.... the joys of all new brake lines.... the Lockright locker makes for interesting noises when letting up on the gas with no sound deadening in the vehicle, loose shifter boots, and the tranny wedged into the tunnel (needing some BFH work yet) all the driveline vibrations are magnified into the cab and the ratcheting of the lockright is loud.... and after the exhaust and brakes are done, I can test out my speedo, but oddly enough, it looks like it's nearly correct! (running samurai speedo cable off the samurai t-case, into the soob speedo.)

Backspacing on factory 13", 4x140 wheels, 78 Brat
yes, anything with a 4 or 4.25" backspacing would work. on an 15x8" rim you'd want 0 offset up to +25mm offset. but they are gonna stick out a ways... I had 15x7 on, with 3.75" backspacing, and they stuck out about 2" past the fender.... that was on a gen2 brat..... I would think something like a 15x6 would be better with +25 offset (4" backspacing). would be good for tires up to 225 width... might search around for folks running pug 15's on a gen1....

no. I didn't get the clutch stuff, as I always put new stuff on, and I didn't really need the flywheel, but it'd be easy to get now....

junkyard prices for D/R 5 speed ...
thought I'd post this out there.... my favorite u-pull type yard, used to sell a trans for $275. then they moved and went to the western US style yard, where they put everthing up so you can get to all the parts... and crushed regularly, but dropped their prices... I got a D/R 5 speed today, and here's the breakdown from the receipt.... trans $120 core $25 Env. fee $4.80 shifter assembly $14.99 env fee $0.60 core $1.00 tax (6%) $9.98 for a total of $176.36 and it took me about 2 hours.... I don't mind paying that around here, because there's only been 2 show up in this yard in the last couple of years.... and I think the other got crushed.... sometime you can get lucky, like my frined, who happened to find one at a different yard, that had been sitting on a shelf for years, and got it for $50.... so what are you paying for a D/R 5 speed....?

Backspacing on factory 13", 4x140 wheels, 78 Brat
well, the ea82 rims (5.25" bs) will not work on a gen1 brat, but the gen2 wagon wheels will work (4.75" bs) , so you need to stick with 5" or less backspacing..... which should be no problem going to the wheels you are thinking....

Junk Yard meet-up Des Moines, Iowa
5 spd d/r is now at home went pretty smoothly... got there at about 8:30 took me a bit to find the car, and scrounge up some things to lay down on the gravel so I could slide underneath... and at 10:15 it dropped out onto the ground....

Backspacing on factory 13", 4x140 wheels, 78 Brat
soobs have ones of the highest positive offsets, so pretty much anything non-soob you fit on, will have less of an offset.... but the Gen1's do have more limitations because of the trailing arm and rear torsion bar set-up.... especially if going with the later years soob 4x140 wheels... this page has some backspacing measurements.... http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/wheels/wheels.html are you lifting, or just looking for better wheel sizes for street tires?
