  1. excellent thread. this one cameto thetop onmy search. looks like I did everything but connect the ballast resistor wires together.
  2. got your specs.... Vehicle Flywheel spec ID Step ===================================== Brat ea71 58 77 010 -.900" Brat ea81 81-82 58 77 020 -.900" XT fwd 58 77 020 1800 ea82 fwd 58 77 020 1800 83-84 fwd 58 77 020 Brat ea81 85-87 58 77 040 -.900" XT AWD/Turbo 58 77 040 1800 ea82 4wd 58 77 040 1800 83-84 4wd 58 77 050 1800 hatchback 58 77 050 Brat ea81 83-84 58 77 050 -.825 XT6 58 77 090 -.815" Very Interesting..... this info came from here... http://www.autopartsource.com/catalog/7305.pdf
  3. the disty shaft was good, that's why I just put on a new cap and rotor I had laying around. I had an electronic disty and coil, sitting there waiting, but it was getting to be about 2:30 AM so I called it a night.... gas seems fine, as did the fuel pump. I've hadlots worse gas,and still been able to drive. The guy had driven it recently and it had a near full tank. I ran sea foam through, and also did a good cleaning from above on the carb. I've done the disty swap before too, so that'll be the next step. maybe Sat. night I'll have time.....
  4. the ones the guy checked were the specs for the XT6 vs the D/R
  5. the machine shop I go to, lists different step depths between the xt6 and the ea82 D/R flywheel.
  6. http://www.chinahardware.com.cn/index.htm there's 2 wheels with 4x140 bolt pattern.....
  7. the pushbutton at that point would be useless, as with the sammy tcase, you need to run the soob transaxle in 4WD to feed power to the tcase... then lift up your soob high enough for clearance underneath the tcase, and room to put in the lifts front and rear to match height wise, and the custom mounts for the front diff.... here's my tcase mounted... now because mines undergoing other major work, it's been designed to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. therefore the hole in the floor to help clock the transfer case a bit for more clearance, but that also means more of the floor cut out so new tunnel can be put in.... the nissan t-case is a bit larger and taller, but has the outputs centered, so matches up to the soob diffs better if you're just doing a straight lift
  8. Okay. Background. ea71 engine (78 Brat) 111k miles. stock carb stock points disty it was running good except for an occasional backfire where the massive exhaust leaks were when I got it... ASV was bad too. I got a Complete new exhaust. still loud running (ASV) and some backfiring.. I took it for a drive (less than 10 miles) (up to 50 mph probably) On the way home, it started running poorly. missing. So next things done: oil change/new SOA filter (replaced a Ford one) new NGK plugs (old Autolite plugs were varying degrees of bad). new NGK wires (old ones were super stiff/old) new fuel filter new air filter new cap and rotor (shaft bushing still in good shape) ASV plugged still sounds like it's missing and low on power. I have a newer electronic disty and coil I can put in. if that doesn't do anything, then what's left. no compression perhaps. not much else it can be.....
  9. the sammy t-case is divorced, so you just need the flange/u-joint off a sammy drive shaft, and the yoke/u-joint off a soob driveshaft, and have new tube added between them for whatever length you need....
  10. Also, there were a lot of additions to the Wheels page, and the Toys page.... a couple to the Brat Colors page, plus some new fun stuff I've been collecting.... and more gokart pics....
  11. a Bit of History for the newbies.... The original Subarus of the 80s site was created by GeoffreyR, though he's gone by a few diffeerent names on the board.... This was where the engine/vehicle specs came from, along with other info... I then added the wheels page, and Brat colors page, etc.... After a few years of adds/changes, it was rolled into the UltimeSubaru website, and underwent a few sets of changes there.... With the recent change of servers, I pulled out all the Static Information pages, and combined them back into the latest incarnation of the Subarus of the 80s site... This is where you'll find all the Brat pages, and the Wheels page.... enjoy! (and let me know if you find anything broken....) Click Image in Sig.... or click here ==>
  12. a few more pics after a good exterior washing..... it really is kind of amusing seeing it parked behind the Chevy...
  13. Just be sure they are 15" and not the 390mm ones.... and if you get them and don't want them, I've been looking for a set of those
  14. Sadly, that was the Brat I sold to 7point62fmj a few years back. 60k, but some dents. He was fixing it up, and an electrical gremlin caused it to burn to the ground this past year.....
  15. Chromed plastic caps. pugs steels underneath. That's the only one I still have ('86, 90k), though I no longer have the topper.
  16. I've taken lots of pics of soobs over the years, and I've got a few that really stand out for me because of the colors, etc.... here they are, in no particular order...
  17. when I had a stock brat with a broken torsion bar, I did this.... http://www.indysworld.com/subaru/strutsinrear/ and when I broke the torsion bar in my lifted Red Brat, I used the 3" lift piece, and drilled holes in the ea82 strut mount plate. reversed it, and used washers to space it out so the springs wouldn't rub....
  18. well, I'm thinking that the weber that's on my '82 will go onto the '78 when I SPFI the '82..... I've already had an ea71 with a weber (Ski Wagon) and it was a blast....
  19. Not just yet. I still want ot get it running really good, and am seriously considering lifting it.....
  20. ueah, I was walking down the isle, and saw the headlight shape first (of the pug). even the spare was gone! I just got the Disty "because" if you didn't need it, I needed a spare.... I've depleted my spare supply
  21. I'm still working on the static web pages from the last server.... I'll have them up by the end of January.... ahhh. the .net domain is still pointing at the old server.... that server will be going away shortly though.....
  22. My wife actually prefers the Gen1 body style... the Gen1s are fun to drive. Raw vehicle. no fluff....
  23. Terry's Auto Service in Clive did the exhaust. He's done others for me to tuck them up after the lift.... I stopped at WrenchNGo today. nasty trying to walk with a wheel barrow on the ice! I did grab the disty out of the DL couple there though...
  24. well, took it today and got complete new exhaust on it. $212. took some carb cleaner to it, and tried to set it a little better. still idles a bit high... put on a different shift knob, and spent $10.00 at the car wash getting all the black gunk off from sitting. Bed cleaned up nicely, and is in good shape... I put a can of seafoam in tha tank, along with some heet.... it's starting to run better already.... need to get some fresh gas in there, and get the oil changed.... I've got too many projects to make this one a restoration... it's just a driver... unless someone else want to restore it....
