santa clause brought something to mick
mcbrat replied to bheinen74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the built ea81 is staying in the redbrat. no need to go to EJ22 any more, plus it won't fit anymore the 78 will stay ea71.... -

I'm thinking of a paint scheme like the one I did on my dad's old gold 83 wagon.... -
Okay. I'll start my list... Vehicle: 1978 Brat GL w/AC Wants: right side fender bumper potentially and right side bumper mount bracket fan speed controller/resistor? factory clock brown door opener trim shifter bushings for getting rid of slop Rear slider (though I regularly see these on eBay) Brown steering wheel center factory am/fm radio? carpet dash cover... rear mudflaps was there a tach available? Any NOS AC parts (yeah right) that's it for now. I need to drive it more to see what else it might need....

Those Red 4WD Factory Decals...
mcbrat replied to Subarule's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
they are based on dimensions given to me off of an RX (that's why there is a "lined SUBARU" name decal in that set. the wagons, had a OEM plastic logo there.... I can adjust them to specific dimensions within reason. stock decals fade, so the general idea of these is that you remove all the old ones, and put on all new ones, so if the decals are a few mm diff in size, it won't really matter. -

got my plates on, and aired up the low tire and took it for a spin last night... nothing like loud cackling/popping from under the cab because of the exhaust leak to help alert the neighbors your coming through and the miniscule exhaust piping size on these always makes me laugh.... has a slight pull to left, but probably because of the tire shifter has like 6-8" of lateral movement when in 1st gear. way sloppy. but still able to shift okay into all gears... idle is still a little high, but the carb needs a good cleaning. runs great at part throttle but wide open, it stumbles... just like my first Brat heat really works good, but it's constantly running through the heater core. the valve was not working properly so it was bypassed. the stock fan control is also not working. that's what the red toggle is for next to the radio... -

Well, first car for Indy is supposed to be the '86 blue Brat... but this may be the first beater for him it's not my heigh that's the problem in a Gen1... it's the extra person wrapped around my midsection at least the Gen1 Brat isn't too bad. getting into the 78 4 door I had... now that was interesting.... -

ahh yes, I had forgotten about my Gen1 Bed Rails... thos will look really slick on this.... The only other Gen1 parts I have, is a set of door glass, and the push bar... As far as how much am I getting rid of it for.... Everything has a price But I really need to get rid of my '70 C-10 first ... or I wonder if the 350 would fit in here... -
x10 I've had to use plenty of skinny pedal to keep up with my wheeling buddies, but I still could only go so far. But it toook it's toll. Most every time out something would break. Lots of good trail fix experience and seeing just how strong rope can be but it took some of the fun factor out of it... plus Soob parts are hard to come by anymore around here... In the end, before the SAS, my rear lift/suspension on my Brat consisted of broken/disabled torsion bars, trailing arm and torsion plate welded together to form a solid trailing "A" arm off the torsion tube. (each side) ea82 coilovers with mounts drilled to mount to ea81 horseshoe shock extensions. the rest of the rear lift was all BYB/Ozified. current inspection shows that the torsion tube mount points in the frame rail had cracked, and were beginning to pull through. thankfully, I have a wife who like the Uniqueness of the Brat, and the looks it gets, which made it easier for me to justify the SAS on my Brat. While my crawls ratio is gonna be about 53:1 I have no desire to do RockCrawling so I'll be happy with where I'm at. It will be a whole new learning experience though with solids, and gobs of flex....

Well, it was less than my '72 Chevy this is the most expensive Gen1 I've purchased.... Past Gen1s I've had. 1980 Brat - $250 (drove for a while, then sold) 1979 Brat - $150 (parted out) 1978 Brat - $50 (did lots of work on, drove, then sold) 1978 4 door sedan - $300 (drove, then parted out. one of it's seat belts keeps my son safely in place in the Brat GoKart ) -

Spec Wise: 1978 Brat GL (5/78 mfg date) 1.6l ea71 4 spd single range 4wd AC 111k miles came with spare ea71 and an extra intake manifold/carb. (later ea71 or ea81) I'm the 3rd owner. jump seats/frame are gone. vinyl seats in good shape. looks like one small split in seam of middle section of drivers seat. Roll bar (light bar) is made out of exhaust tubing. needs some exhaust work, and a tire leak fixed, but otherwise drives good. Floors are solid, as are all the suspension mount points and base of the strut towers. (I was really suprised at this being an Iowa car.) I have a "A" push bar I can put on it too.... It was only about a mile from my house..... -
so looks likt the HTi boys are out of the lift business. anybody else make a Gen1 lift?

I don't think so... though if you SELL more than 5 in a year, you are required to get a dealers license..... I've had 8 vehicles at my house before... I only have 5 here right now....
