  1. .... that may have been only for certain years.... the 84 parts manual does not show a different cam for the Brat....
  2. you need to mod the ea81 tranny mounts, and they will mount to the 5 speed, and fit into the ea81 crossmember.
  3. I had the exact same thing happen. I had an internal short in the battery. it would "charge" but it was just putting a static charge on it. I'd try a different battery if possible.... (to be sure)
  4. I followed this right here... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49952 the area to grind is the edges right where the opening at the bottom for the flywheel is... you only need to grind if the engine was originally mated to a manual tranny. I just dropped a ea81 into a 87 wagon with 5 speed, and didn't have to do any grinding, as the motor came from a car with AT.
  5. I did this with my 5 speed conversion....
  6. ea81 D/R pops out of 1st gear and 4th on occasion. takes a longer throw to get it into 4th. (normal?) as compared to 2nd. when I let up on gas, it kind of whines a bit as it coasts.... (wheel bearings, axle, or tranny?) I hate tranny swaps....
  7. that one is a little compressed though..... I had one that was almost flat like a pancake....
  8. there's scans of brochures here... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/Literature/brochures/brochures-80-89.html
  9. it's in the repair manual suggestions near the bottom on the main forums page, or already moved to the USRM....

yes, I was 2 qts low on oil at that point since I snapped off my oil sender....so I didn't start it up again until back at the top when I got, of all things, a FORD part to get me home....

clutch started slipping before any of this happened, and it was in 4 low the whole time.... this was just trying to get back to the top. there was no trail. we were making it as we went.... normally I take the Brat on a trailer, but didn't this time.... so I was lucky to be able to drive it home.... I'm going to be fixing up a mechanical oil pressure gauge now too....

a little off-roading today.... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=838 slippery, steep side hills, trees, poor gearing don't mix well final straw for my clutch busted the oil sender unit off (need better skid plate yet) numerous dents on both sides both mirrors busted... CV boot shredded.... Winch got a good workout.
  14. I just made a list of all the stuff I've done to my 82 Brat.... looks like I've spent over $7600 on everything!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I'm guessing he now has one (Brat)...
  16. yeah I have one. There seemed to be a string of them that popped up on eBay a couple years back, but haven't seen any since. supposedly made in Italy. Cloisone is the method/type of emblem construction.
  17. ask if they are 8" from outside edge to outside edge. if so they are 15x7's like these...
  18. another good day. it's alive. ran it today for a little while. fixed up some headlight wiring got color matched left fender, hood and cowl on. it's all red again. stock roof rack bars installed getting reaquainted with the wiring mods this thing has.... trying to chase down PW problem. drivers window will not work. either switch... other 3 windows work fine... motor was tested, and it's good.... I'll have to trace it and see where it's losing power....
  19. glad to see you made it home.... don't know how long I'd trust those tires at 70 though!!!!
  20. I snagged the pics for the wheels page. 13's?
  21. yeah. before a storm hits, they usually send the spray trucks out, and spray down a brine solution in preparation, so the streets end up being white where the wagon's been for the last 5 years though, it's all hills, so it's always salted after being plowed, and they get more snow than where I live...
  22. yeah, it had some issues, and rust was cut out, as much as possible without removing the body (for the record, I don't like body-work) he got 62k miles out of it in 4.5 years. the body has 117k on it now!!! had 55k on it when it was "fixed-up"
