nipper replied to subaru forever's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe two sets of circuits have different feeds. This sounds interesting. Have you checked all the bulbs to see if the filaments are all good?- Clutch life estimate
nipper replied to 1 Lucky Texan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI never really thought about it before. I guess it would, its a closed system Clutch wear there is really too many variables, but I would expect over 80K miles to the sky is the limit. Just depends upon the driver and where the car lives.- Legacy rearended, now won't start

nipper replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt is interesting between the two cars. the outback is 19-21 max in my town. The Justy is 30. On the highway the Outback gets 30 (below 70). They Justy gets 36 no matter how hard you beat on it. I choose the Outback for long highway drives, the Justy for congested drives.- You Subaru Current MPG?
nipper replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCan the Justy play too?- You Subaru Current MPG?
nipper replied to ThosL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX2005 Outback, if I keep it under 70 I can get 30 mpg. Around town it can be 18-22. We have stop signs on every 1000' long block and traffic lights everywhere.- neutral saftey switch
Well lets not be so pickey about names An automatic in a subaru has an "inhibitor" switch. This tells the car what gear it is in Manuals will have a clutch switch of some kind, and sometimes a neutral safety switch on the transmission. More modern manuals may even have some sort of switches to tell the computer what gear you selected. Someone may have bypassed your clutch switch. Not uncommon.- What are these things inside my engine bay?

nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOhhhh i never thought of that. I think its off I will check tomorrow.- WILL YOU STOP DINGING!
My 2005 outback, the passenger side seat belt pressure switch is stuck. If i engage the seat belt it stops. Normally I wouldnt care but I know the airbag does. Is this sensor/switch replaceable?- What are these things inside my engine bay?

nipper replied to cascadeclimbn's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLeaking anything actually. Wash off the bottom of the engine, top off all the fluids and go for a drive. Then park the car with cardboars under it and see what the stains are.- Does this look like a head gasket problem
nipper replied to fiszka11's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe coolant level will change a few inches during operation. It gets sucked back in to the cooling system as the engine cools off, unless the "sealed" system has a leak of some kind. A leak can be a hose, the radiator or the head gasket. Are the bubles you seeing large and continuous?- external HG leak?
nipper replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHas your PCV valve ever been changed? Spilling coolant winter or summer is not a good or acceptable thing. Where are you seeing the milky oil?- Headgasket changes for the 1998 year
nipper replied to AdventureSubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts actually a moving target. As subaru rectifies Hg issues, they update and superceed previous ones.- blinker 4 ways 97 sedan

YAY way cool. I *ahem* have a friend that can use some *ahem* stickers for his Justy- external HG leak?
nipper replied to efseiler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHead gaskets are complicated things. internally they have to seal high combustion pressures and temps, seal a water jacket at 14ps, deal with external temps from -50F to 150F. They have to deal with fast moving air, high flow water, and oil up to 80 psi. If your lucky all will work well. If not you can get an external leak of coolant or oil (which on subarus one can live with unless its driping on a hot exhaust). If you are unlucky they will fail on the combustion side. Like Imdew said DOHC tend to blow in the worst way possible. SOHC tend to weep oil or coolant. Weeping can be tolerated if you keep an eye on the fluid levels. Weeping wont strand you, a combustion side leak will.- Degree of difficulty--'99 Subaru exhaust?
