  1. Bubbles are never ever ever a good sign. Rev the engine a little bit, if you get more bubbles as opposed to faster moving bubles, we have an answer... and its not pretty. nipper
  2. yes but what would it had felt like if you sat in it for 14+ hrs? hehehehehehe
  3. They all are overkill except for what sooby specifies, but for free, try them. nipper
  4. You have to get in and out of the back of whatever you find to decide. nipper
  5. Simple stuff first. replace your radiator cap. Its old enough that you wont be throwing money away. Spedo: you have two speed sensors if its an auto. Unbnplug one, go for a drive, then unplug the other and go for a drive, see what happens (plug the first one back in). If its a manual yes speed sensor. the 5mph off you can't do anythig about, its programmed in. We just had an extensive chat about this on the outback baord, Better slower then faster. nipper
  6. OEM parts only come from places with "Subaru" on the front door. I wonder if you have a bum bearing in one of those parts. At least we ruled out the accessories. nipper
  7. They are basically really simple devices. they are just a little peice of quartz that makes an AC signal that the ECU processes. I have yet to hear of this having to be an OE part. Check www.1stsuabru.com website just to see what sooby gets for one. Otherwise I dont think it matters. nipper
  8. is the noise there with the accessory drive belts off the car? Does the noise change with ehngine rpm? describe it in detail please. nipper
  9. general rule of thumb, if the noise wasnt there before you touched it, and is there after you touched, go back and see what you touched. nipper
  10. You can usually get the MSDS sheet from the MFg website. They arent always required by law to make it available to you for every "consumer quantity" package, but it should be available for the asking if you call the 800 number. nipper
  11. A good price is a stamp and a blank disc to me. The turn signal ciruit is stupid simple on these cars, and mnost issues are over thought. What problems are you having? nipper
  12. If the covers are on the engine i doubt there was an oil on the belts. You can pull the covers and clean or wash the belt as it sits. The issue with oil on the belts (engine oil as opposed to hydraulic fluid) is that it gets to soak into the belt, along with heat and tension and flexing. Just clean up and you should be fine. er um noise? nipper
  13. Some are some arent. Some people remove or bypass the switch. Some switches fail. Jeeps dont have that switch as thats a method for getting unstuck, let the starter pull you out and the engine fire as opposed to modulating everything. nipper
  14. SHouldnt there be vice grips on the steering column shaft?
  15. They are both of equal age, so it can happen, but its a really long shot. I would also inspect all your brakelines and brake hardware. it sounds like alot of parts are just tired. nipper
  16. That gets filed in my mind for future reference. Since this is a junkyard car so to speak, go over all the connectors and make sure everything is plugged in. nipper
  17. Again an educated guess. The Inhibtor switch failure may be a problem with just P and N (dirty or burned contacts ect in just those two postions). The Code your seeing i most likely a probablme being picked up by ALL positions in the switch, like partial contact, or the switch contacts moving around, or noise in the signal. All of these can be caused by a loose cable or dirty and poor contacts. Since there is not much in the switch (its just on or off for any given postion), it can only be the cable, wires, or the tcu. nipper
  18. Go over the car and make sure the ECU is there, and all the fuses are in place. The fact that the scanner can not see the ecu is toublesome. nipper
  19. Welcome. the site is slow on weekends so be patient. Inprezza vs legacies, its personal taste. Imprezzas are smaller and get a little better gas mileage, i like the legacies myself. When buying a used car over 140,000 miles, HG is a non issue, as any car can blow one at that time, and you have to figure that in your what if scenario. If its under 100,000 then yes you need to figure that in. Upper end of mileage? Thats an inknown on a sooby. Its a mix of condition of the car, how much its selling for, and how much risk you want to assume (ie the body is in great shape, i got it for XXX bucks so if it needs an engine or a tranny big deal) kind of thing. nipper
  20. Lets start with checking the obvious. Does the car have an intact ECU? It almost sounds like it is missing or its bad. The lights, start by pulling fuses and see if they go out. If the dont you have a short someplace and its backfeeding to the dash. nipper
