  1. Even if Blu, 1997 had the airbag light come on, i would not mess with it, i would take it to the dealer. This is just playing with explosives, so its best to go to the dealer. You have air bags in the driver side and passenger side (read the owners manual, thats what it is there for). nipper
  2. If the system is in one peice, odds are it has a leak and needs refridgerant. Some things are best left to the pros (pay once do it once). There are other things it can be, but subaru AC systems are fairly resiliant. Loss of coolant is usually the cause for them not runing. Any idea how long its been not working? nipper
  3. Differntials either whine (gets louder as you go faster) or thunk when changing direction. (from drive to reverse). You need to check the lube level in the siff. You also need to check the universals in the driveshaft, and the carrier bearing. Do you feel any vibrations that come and go at highway speed? A bad strut is also a possbaility. INspect all the rubber bushings also. How are the exhuats hangers? BTW noises are hard to diagnose over the net, so best we can do is guide you nipper
  4. Excpet on subarus your not stretching the bolt alone (or any HG for that matter). You are compressing a 3 part gasket. The bolts are far stronger then the threads in this case. Thats why you cant reuse a HG if you screw up the pattern, and decide to start over. nipper
  5. Actually neutral does better on paper, but its such a small amount, you would probably wear out the shifter cable before you saw any real gain. nipper
  6. Not easily. OBDI was no standardized, so a mfg would have to make one for each and every car model. You may be able to find an older trip computer that will work with obdI on ebay. An easy way to do it would be to add a vacume gauge to the car. That was the old fasioned way of doing it with cars. The higher the needle, the better the gas mileage. nipper
  7. There is an interlock that keeps the car from engaging park over a specific speed. Its made for "incindents" and Accidental" park engagement. i'm sure there wil be other ways the car wont survive the relationship. nipper
  8. They dont. Its straight forward math to figure out how much air the engine consumes at 3000 rpm, then you apply that to standard charts for air flow/hp required from an eletric motor, you need one hell of a large electric motor to move that much air. nipper
  9. Use a thermometer of some kind, dont go by a helpers sense as to what cold is. nipper
  10. There is an easy solution. Stick a note on the spare tire in sealed plastic bag facing up that says in big letters "put this fuse in the FWD holder under the hood" and have a spare fuse in it. If she can change a flat, she will undestand that. I am impressed that she can. And if someone else does, they will se the note. nipper
  11. Actually thats normal for an AWD car. It takes the puter a second or so to figure things out. nipper
  12. Search torque bind here, many many many many threads. Its always ok to flush a sooby tranny at any time. nipper
  13. Check the filler, but also check the tank gasket at the fuel pump. Your not supposed to reuse it (i do all the time) but it can be a source of leaks. nipper
  14. There are people and companies that specialize on hail ding removal. The can do miracles. nipper
  15. 224K on the original tranny and still going strong. at 181,000 miles the awd was rebuilt. nipper
  16. They are old. If it was a short they would all be out and you would smell the magic smoke. The dash comes out easily, you'll find maybe more then one bulb out. The PRND321 bulb is easy to see, but a bit of a bear to get out. nipper
  17. Subaru and Nissan's share quite a few parts. The fact that nissan got the contract to rebuild subaru trannies doesnt mean anything. My engine bought from subaru was rebuilt by a (forget the name) over the road HD diesel truck mfg, yet i dont claim it to be a semi nipper
  18. They dont, you need to buy them. The clips do not like to be reused, and usually fail. I would look at that as a issue, or if you have to take everything apart, you do need to replace them. nipper
