  1. manuals are no help . I used to know this stuff before NY went to the CA emissions, now I have forgotten it all. nipper
  2. Yes thats true. It may be time to take the heads to a machine shop. The seats may have sunk. You may have properly adjusted valves, but with a sunk seat, you would have a valve leak. The valve wont burn because there is no compression. nipper
  3. Silly question, are you re using head gaskets every time you take the engine apart? nipper
  4. Did you do a wet and dry test on all the cylinders? If so we need to know the numbers. nipper
  5. a Diesel can add 2500-3500 to a car in the USA. so we shall see. SUbaru is a small company so they dont have the volume to absorb alot of cost. nipper
  6. Let me see what the differnce is in the manuals, if i can find it ..... nipper
  7. Sorry that last post really sounded rude, and i didnt mean to be Just having a bad month. nipper
  8. Basically just from the evidence here, form peoples expieriences. If you wish to buy one form autozone go right ahead. I also rely on my knowledge of working for an auto parts mfg as to the differnces in quality. I dont do debates that go on forever anymore. So I am going to step out of this thread. nipper
  9. STOP, back away from the mechanic First thig to do is to wash the engine. Next is to have a dye put in the coolant. After the engine warms up, it is shut down. Using a black light you can trace the source of the leak. The system should also be pressure tested for leaks. nipper
  10. Before spending any money, look up the cali DMV and see what they have to say. nipper
  11. EEEKKKKK God i am glad you can write about this in a humorus way. I am glad you and the car are both better. nipper
  12. I would bet its time for a new clutch if its slipping in 2nd third and 4th. nipper
  13. Rear O2 snesor can be from anyone anywhere. It's the front one that counts. nipper
  14. I wonder what they put in the office watercooler at GM. The Baja may have been two small, but this just looks too ugly. Maybe as a 2 door it would look better. Gm right now has some good products, but is a bit like a weathervane in a hurricane, not sure where to point. nipper
  15. Sily me, also see if they click when you make a slow tight turn. nipper
  16. You cant make it worse. I wouldnt take any long drives. Pop the hood and inspect the CV boots, turn the wheels and inspect the boots behind the wheels, what condition are they in. nipper
  17. NO COPPER BRAKELINES! (ok no nickle cooper brakelines). Copper can work harden with time (thats how you snap copper wire by beding it repeatedly). If your in an accident, and they see copper, you wil be at fault. Granted they are copper alloy, but they are not aproved for your car (original equipment). You can prove otherwise, but its not worth the headaches. Copper break lines even alloys have differnt charicteristics then steel ones. http://www.dimebank.com/BrakePlumbing.html They may be easier to work with, but they tend to be more expensive, and the longevity is still an unknown. Granted Audi And volvo use copper alloy, but they have been aproved to use it on thier brake lines. Alco copper alloy needs to be fastened down at about every 5 inches to keep it from vibrating. Use Steel, its not like its a job you have to do every day, so it do it right the first time . nipper
  18. It's cheaper to get a used tranny, as the diff is part of the transmision (you buy a tranny it comes with it)> How are your lubricant levels? Howlinfg is unique to a diff, so I wont argue with that. How are the front drive shafts? nipper
  19. The newer one stays. The other is harder to get parts for when it brakes down. you need something reliable for school. If you decide to get another early sooby, plenty of rust free affordable examples running around to be had. nipper
  20. Below 20 degrees, I need to use both feet to stop Blu the first stop. Below 10 degrees when i use the remote starter, the alarm can go off for no reason (Blus way of saying NOoooooooooooooo i dont wanta). nipper
  21. Valve adjustment can cause this code too. Or lack of it.
  22. I am against swapping food for fuel. Its already happening, that food costs are being driven up. To me corn is NOT an acceptable alternative. Now when we can get switchgrass to convert i am in for biofuels. nipper
