  1. Also getting it out of the slip stream of air at the top of the hatch/tailgate. There is a vacum up there at the top, and that will suck the washer fluid out. i cant think of anyone who still has it at the top. nipper
  2. Its not the squirter i have an issue with, its the wiper. No delay on it, and a brand new balde and arm still only wipes 75% of the sweep. Squirter covers fine. nipper PS its done low to avoid any siphoning affect
  3. The noise sounds like a throw out bearing. The input shaft would be there whenever the tranny is unloaded (deceleration or neutral) i would think. Once again its hard to say over the net. IF you can get a stethascope on the fork you should be able to tell. A tranny bearing wont transmit to the fork as much as a to Bearing. a TO bearing wouldnt be heard in the tranny housing. Just an idea. If its an orginal TO bearing, its about the right time for it to be upset. Test your power brake booster. With the car off pump the brakes ten times. With your foot on the brake pedal start the car, it should go to the floor. I am wondering if you have an odd vacume leak that seals itself up in the booster. nipper
  4. Damnit, now your giving me ideas .... nipper
  5. The original bearings have lasted 212,000 miles, when i do it i'll go with OE, as they obviously have done something right nipper
  6. Yes i was wondering that too. I suggest the poster try that and then try to put his car in gear, it will go in. Looks like a big red sign is in my future. nipper
  7. There is nothing you can do except hope that the parking space is really really close to the old one. The automatics can be towed for a short distance with only one set of wheels, since theere is no pressure in the system to engage the clutches. This will do damage Since one set of clutches are spinning, the others arent, and no lubrication. The manual has the viscous coupling which may get damaged. The Fuse only works when the car is on. I have no idea what thier tolerance is for damage on the hook. NYC tows cars all the time with a hook, and so do a lot of other cities. Hooke em and get them out asap. Subaru says never to tow this way. In some cities there is so much stop and go traffic the AWD units never get to dramatically heat up If there is damage it would be torque bind. Wish I had better information. nipper
  8. Herer is a silly question. Since the key broke in the cylinder, have you tried using a screw driver to start the car? nipper
  9. I had to have keys made for my 1997. The dealer made them for me. Bring your title just in case. nipper
  10. A HG can blow whenever it feels like blowing. It's an old car. If it blows, you will know it. Too cold wont be a HG issue. If it does stay that cold, change your oil a little more often. Make sure your coolant is up to the task. nipper
  11. Then dont worry about it too much. My 87 would do the same thing in the 20's. It was so bad i would block half the radiator with cardboard to get heat. If it is above 30 or more (yes 10 degrees can make a differnce) then i would worry. nipper
  12. That too.. another thing is that the oil may never get fully warm either. nipper
  13. Yes it is. The car never heats up so the engine will never run at peak performance. You will always run rich. Sounds like your thermostat is stuck wide open. nipper
  14. You may throw some codes, the cruise control may not work at all...a couple of possabilities. Don't cut the wire, just disconnect it and see what happens. Remember though, its alos not good for the car to not downshift, as you can lug the engine. If cutting the wire stops the engine from downshifting, that would still require your intervention, so just pushing the small pedal may just be simpler. It's worth a try. nipper
  15. There is absolutly no replacement for them? Damn that sucks. nipper
  16. Right now im trying to figure out how to mount garmin so no one will steal it out of the car. We are in a hot spot for GPS thefts. nipper
  17. The downshifting on hills with cruise on, almost all cars do that now, and they downshift two gears. I even rented a car with a v-8 and it did the same thing. The best way to deal with the cruise on hills, is either put the car in D3 if there are a lot of hills, or press the skinny pedal with your right foot to slowly feed throttle so the cruise doesnt ask for a down shift. nipper
  18. Or as long as he is at the autoparts store .. get a cheap vacum/fuel pressure gauge too. That wil avoid that entire spark fuel boom thing. nipper
  19. For the same reason you wont see the 1.6 or 1.8 make a comeback. We like to go fast quickly, and we als like our cars loaded down with every power gizmo you can think of, and quiet. It all adds weight. nipper
  20. Its been ages, so i dont remeber if they come out. I have a theory, that all busings are replaceable. When they have had a happy home for (in car years) eons, they dont want to come out in one peice. I usually get the metal sleeve out any way i can, then ungracefully rip out the bushings. Once you get the sleeve out, you can cut the bushing. YOu can try using a penetrating oil to allow the rust to release its hold from the rubber. I have also used a torch. nipper
