97 obw drive train broke
nipper replied to 1997outback's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhy? Once a soobie is fixed, its fixed for at least another 100,000 miles. Keep the car and drive it. And just put it under the school of hard knocks, dont ignore a driveline vibration. BTW 500.00 for a cat is not bad. Ask the mechanic where he is getting it from. If its Eastern, tell him to get it some place else. nipper

'99 Legacy Brighton: Engine revving at high RPM in neutral or w/ clutch in
nipper replied to D Love's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhat happens wehn you stop in gear and just hold the clutch in at a red light. Does it still rev? Usually the Idle Air Control Motor controlls the idle speed, It can be dirty or frozen. nipper

Towing Subaru behing RV
The automatic you need to disconnect the driveshaft (in this case a cv axle). The manual is ideal. It is not full time AWD, so its easy. It doesnt need a pump to run to keep it cool and lubricated (like an auto does). Jusat hook it up, out on a set of tail lights, and off you go. nipper

nipper replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAgreed. They can tweak the mix somewhat to get more or less. But if you understand that they are sort of cooking the oil to seperate it yout, thats about what they get out of a barrlel of oil. nipper

nipper replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFunny thing about crude oil, the production of it really is that horrible, as it uses its own waste products to keep the refining going. It's actually fairly clean as it sits, the problem is when we start consuming it. http://www.gravmag.com/oil.html ( i got the exact breakdown from another site, as it was more detailed. The above link is just interesting) gasoline 19.5 distillate fuel oil (Includes both home heating oil and diesel fuel) 9.2 kerosene-type jet fuel 4.1 residual fuel oil (Heavy oils used as fuels in industry, marine transportation and for electric power generation) 2.3 liquefied refinery gasses 1.9 still gas 1.9 coke 1.8 asphalt and road oil 1.3 petrochemical feedstocks 1.2 lubricants 0.5 kerosene 0.2 other 0.3

Station Memory Loss and CD Eject in Cold Weather
nipper replied to msntuttle's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI doubt its battery failure, but you never know. Have the battery load tested. or try staring the car at midnight . My guess is its the radio terminal that feeds the memory power. Its just a little loose. In the really cold weather it shrinks enough to loose electrical contact. nipper

Diesel!
nipper replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI just gave this speech on outback board. *ahem* now where is that soap box ..... There comes the point where you have to stop looking at memememe and think ususus (not meaning the usa, but the society in general). We are using too much oil. We need to start doing things to reduce consumption, and yes its going to hurt. It's either going to hurt today, or its going to hurt tommorrow, but its going to hurt. It's much better to hurt today when you can adapt and do it by choice, then tomorrow when you dont know what your future is and you can't control it.. One thing guarenteed, cost of oil is going up over the long run (well that and death and taxes). Personal payback will be moot point in the very near future, if not now. Personally I dont look at the payback for the car, i look at the gas mileage, and 40mpg is much better then the 21 Blu gets combined. As far as the cost, generally outbacks are much more expensive over seas then they are here to begin with (eidt, the original questioner was from the land of imperial gallons). nipper *puts soap box away*

nipper replied to Olnick's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXOn the outback board the conversion works out to 39 mpg. Thats still better thern Blu's 21 mpg combined. nipper

Noisy Autozone Alternator after 8 months
nipper replied to daehttub2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXevery 8 months? i was dreaming at that, with getting only 3 months out of two of them. One shop was blaiming all my accessories, another said nothing was wrong, and a third said it was my wiring. I went off on two of them, then decided to bite the bullet and go OE. Thats when i found out they were not only putting the wrong altenator in the car (the expensive impreza), but charging me through the nose. Since then, I have not had a single issue, and its been 6 months. nipper

Noisy Autozone Alternator after 8 months
nipper replied to daehttub2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAnd sadly there is no standard legal defanition of rebuilt or remanufactured. Ideally it should be a new diode set, new regulator, new brushes new bearings, cleanup of parts, and electrical testing. Sadly it can just mean the replacement of whatever part failed and a cleaning. nipper

Noisy Autozone Alternator after 8 months
nipper replied to daehttub2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFor altenators, you really need to check the dealer and on line first. Blus alt was 214.00 from the mechanic (got screwed on that one a few times) but 1st subaru was 61.00 Always check the dealer first, as you may be nicely surprised. the 95 legacy is 67.50 plus 50.00 core charge. nipper

Am I Reading This Right???!!!
nipper replied to JT95's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIts a fake bid. So now they have to relist it again, probably for a fee. They have to explain to ebay that its a fake bid, how ever it works. It also blocks the car from being sold. Get enough withdrawn or fake bids while your trying to sell something, people are not going to bid. nipper
