  1. "No. Haven't hit anything like that recently. I guess my wife could have but I haven't. I am pretty sure there is that tourqe bind, but it will run me about $800 to fix I believe. The mechanic I was at showed me all that was involved in the binding." Since none of us can see the car, and this mechanic has, i dont think this has gotten overblown. So we have a diagnoses. nipper
  2. If its a missfire you can't feel, dont forget to clear the codes too. nipper
  3. You can swap wires, but you have to swap those two first, then leave themswapped and swap the wires on the other side. This is a waste spark ignition, so 1-2 and 3-4 fire together. nipper
  4. http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=914 You can dump a can of seafoam in there first and see what happens. But lots of us have had bad expieriences with brand new wires that were not subaru. nipper
  5. Drain -fill- drive around the block - repeat. Or if you have long blocks drain - fill- go through all the gears for about 10 seconds each - repeat. Tranny fluid is one of the few fluids that get refreshed with new fluid, so its not critical to get 100% of it out. i know some that do a drain and fill with every other oil change, almost works out the same. nipper
  6. http://www.tccoa.com/brake-fluid/ Technically you can mix dot 3 and dot 4, but i wouldnt. Dot 3 absorbs water far easier then dot $, so you will not have the main advantage of dot 4, the abilkity to resist water contamination. nipper
  7. 3/36000 is a pretty good rule of thumb. (says he who is overdue for a tranny flush) nipper
  8. Not so fast .... Is he going to fix the car? If so how much is he going to ask for it, the same money? If he uses subaru head gaskets, this may not be a bad thing nipper
  9. http://www.prilubes.com/product-info-sheets/pdfs/DIII(H)_MERCON.PERF.cwk%20(WP).pdf Your good. nipper
  10. You keep forgetting, subaru is a SMALL automotive company. R and D costs millions of dollars, hence why GM had to partner with ford and chrysler to come up with a new tranny. Volvo had the deep pockets of its parent company (whoever that is now) to develop a tranny. Not knowing much about volvo right now, they may even had a supplier develop it for them. Subaru is a unique transmission by any measure. They cant really partner with anyone to devlop a new tranny. Its not like the middle will be the same, and everyone add on thier own tail shaft and bell housing. Also with a limited prodyct line, if they did devlop one (and its really not proven yet that a 6 speed is worth it with a 4 cylinder engine), there could be a hefty price increase. You can not compare a v-8 drivetrain with a 4cyl drivetrain, they have different power bands. Its like comparing apples and cell phones. I don't fault them for not doing it. nipper
  11. If you dont post her picture here, i'm going to tell her what you said, that she's nothing special. You know after 100,000 miles or 5 years cars get a personality and "feelings" hehehee nipper
  12. Thats something every driver should do with a new car, including your wife. No reason for you to get harassed for that. nipper
  13. I usually like to start all new with a used car, but you have such low mileage i'm going to say skip it. If you have no miss, no CEL, decent gas mileage, and pass emissions your good. Plugs should be replaced at 100,000K no matter what nipper
  14. Well no picture, typo in the ad, very limited info, I wouldnt look at it either. nipper
  15. Maybe they can, but i couldnt justify someone spending 1500 bucks on a repair on a risk like that. And yours really didnt run all that well, since it lost alot of compression. The turbo was probably helping to overcome that... now imagine if you had full compression nipper
  16. From cars 101.com " Reportedly there were only 801 SUS cloth and 6528 Limited 1999 SUS sedan models produced. " rare indeed nipper
  17. AHA got ya porc its a manual, so its a center differnetial with a viscous coupling. Lets rule something out quickly. Go to a parking lot and drive in a tight circle at idle speed or a little bit more. The car should do this nice and smooth, with no lurching and almost no throttle. Let us know. PS your tires are low becuase its cold outside. Top them off as you get 1psi change for every 10 degree temp change. nipper
  18. Excpet the drivers door does not have a power lock. It just has the switches that activate the other doors. You need a universal actuator for the drivers door and the transmitter/reciever. nipper
  19. Head gasket. If it was you own personal car, we would investigate it more, but sounds like a HG. nipper
