  1. Yes it would work, is it correct, no its not. I didnt even know they could sell a replacement pipe that required a cat, without a cat, and still be certified for on road use. I am curious, how much did they get you for it? I would personally get one with a cat. nipper
  2. You had plenty of gas. My largest fill up was 15.7 gallons oopsy nipper
  3. That is so much more then a body panel. you need a body shop for that. I dont even know if that is fixable for a reasonable price. nipper
  4. in every subaru i have had the glove box light only comes on with the other lights. Check the trunk or hatch light, and the dome lights. check your parkinglight switch nipper
  5. Maybe they changed things, but the carrier bearing used to be replaceable buy itself. Its the universal joints that arent (technically) servicable. Give https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/index.php a call and see what they say. nipper
  6. Well replace ther pcv valve. Replace the air filter, and maybe do a compression check wet and dry. you may have some blow-by (not uncommon with age and miles). nipper
  7. this is 100% typical of cracked coil/bad wires. I get the feeling this hasnt had a tuneup in a long time either. Use OE wires from one of the online suplliers, I've seen them for 30.00. Use factory recomended plugs May as well do the PCV and fuel filter while there. Starting issue MIGHT be starter contatcs if you are getting no crank. Clean the top of the battery using baking soda and water. When it wont start is it a full power crank then just runs out of steam? How was the battery load tested. nipper
  8. SOUnds like the solenoid failed. DId he check it for opens ? nipper
  9. I would get another known good ignitor and swap it in. They can drive you up the wall to diagnose. nipper
  10. Physically describe said charging system testers .... was one silver with a pair of jumper cables, with an analog meter? Looked like some crazy cheese grater? nipper
  11. Annoying mysterious stalling for no reason. The car may start right back up, it may crank a while. The igniton may break up as it heats up. nipper
  12. YAY WERE BACK! you have a 15.9 gallon tank. Light doent come on till almost 14 gallons gone. Want to see the light, run it al the way down. Carry a jerry can just in case. nipper
  13. Somehow in latin it just doesnt sound as bad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_profanity nipper
  14. Something to keep aware of Gas engine................................ Diesel finale drive 4.83 ........................... 5.42 1st 3.75 .................................... 4.11 2nd 2.06..................................... 2.33 3rd 1.23..................................... 1.14 4th 0.85..................................... 1.01 5th NA .....................................0 .765 nipper (source Bently Manual)
  15. I have a pdf of the Vanagon manual if you want it, its a 54,425KB pdf file nipper
  16. when you figure about 24,000 plus tax for a new car, registration, and full coverage for the next 5 years (assuming a loan) plus lost intersest and depreciation..... This is why i put a new engine in Blu at 191,000 miles. It was far cheaper then replacing him, since he was a solid rust free car. And the new ones dont come in a pretty blue nipper
  17. What, he doesnt like driving the slowest production vehical ever made? You will need to get a gasoline tranny, as not only are the bell housing differnt, but i think the gearing is different too (something more suited for a diesel power band). nipper
  18. I'm not sure what a T2 is (vw transporter?) but there are two yahoo lists that deal with VW trnasplants and all thier issues. i listed them on the other new thread about Vw soobie transplants. nipper
  19. Agreed. They are great engines, but as long as its out of the car do all the work and be done with it. Even with a 2.2 You should do everything short of the HG before you install it in the car. nipper
  20. Go someplace else and have the code read then post them here. The very very first thing to look at and replace is the front O2 sensor. This is usually the cause 95% of the time for a failed cat code. replace the front O2 sensor with one from OE. This is something you should do anyway if your replacing the cat, so you have nothing to loose, and everything to gain. I am curious, when was the last time this had a tuneup? nipper
  21. Much easier to leanr how to curse in latin nipper
