  1. Odd he told me wont be another six months before the next batch. That remionds me I have to call him. nipper
  2. Booster test: Pump brakes 10 times with car off. Press brake pedal with foot Start car Pedal should move to the floor. If it doesnt its the booster. Its unusual for a master cylinder to go bad, especially that early. Inspect all the calipers (or wheel cylinders) for leaks. Inspect the rubber brake lines (again a bit too new). Re blead the brakes. If ther eis air in them, air is getting into the system someplace. If there is no air and no leaks, then its most likely the master cylinder. nipper
  3. So how long before we hear the pitter patter of little justys ? nipper
  4. http://www.touchup123.com/paint/list.asp?make=Subaru&year=1997&model=Legacy&submit=List Blu's hood has so many scratches on it, touch up paint is out of the question, and i really dont want to respray the hood. nipper
  5. Which leads to the question, if he bought a synchro, why not swap (camper) parts? nipper
  6. I can try to get one off blue, but its a 1997. nipper
  7. Black smoke is managable and fixable. Its the heavy blue and white that require major work. nipper
  8. OK FI then it can be leaky injectors. nipper
  9. Black is running rich, too much fuel. Can be as simple as a tune up, can be a leaking carb.. nipper
  10. Why not just have a shaft cut and extended like AA usually does it. nipper Eidt just looke closer at the pic, previous comment i made didnt apply.
  11. ALot of times its the switches that are bad, and they can be rebuilt. The contacts get carbon build up. Its really easy to fix. nipper
  12. hehehehe maybe i can find an suv sedan to do it to next hrmmmmm nipper
  13. SOunds like you either need a clutch or a cable. Whne was the last time the clutch was replaced? The cables dont last for ever, but if its a cable, the pedal would also be getting hard to press. AFter having a cable snap on me 3 months after a new clutch, I tend to replace the cable at the same time if the clutch has voer 100,000 miles on it. I'ld bet your clutch is getting tired. nipper
  14. Is it doing this in the summer, or in general. This is normal on all cars that have computer controlled transmissions. This helps the engine warm up faster. My car does it for a short time in the morning in summer. Why did you get the valve body rebuilt? nipper
  15. It seems like there is a weak/bad checkvalve in the system. Wait for the tranny to build pressure up. Having the car slam in gear will dramatically shortne its life. The usual reasons for a delayed engagement is usually a bad front pump or seals. Those two would get worse with time. This issue that subaru has doesnt seem to get worse, so most people live with it. nipper
  16. http://endwrench.com/images/pdfs/OBDIISumm04.pdf Its wiped out after 40 warm-up cycles, 80 if its a missfire (flashing CEL lamp). nipper
  17. ABS kicking in when hitting a pothole is it doing what it is supposed to be doing. It will also sometimes kick in on a manhole cover. Faulty relay can be just that, a faulty relay. The ABS ssytem doesnt have many oddball failure modes, they are rather black and white. See if you can find some used relays someplace (as they are expensive) to solve the issue. Sometimes just removing and replacing the connector.relays wil clean the terminals. nipper
  18. Buurning water itself shouldnt cause you to fail emissions. The water is burning off the carbon in the eninge, so that would do it. You need to take a compression test first to see what is going on. Also examine the spark plugs, is one cleaner then the other. Yes its possible you missed a cylinder head crack. What are the emissions numbers? nipper
  19. http://subarujusty.proboards20.com/index.cgi welcome to the site and try there. nipper
  20. These subarus... if you mean 1980's it wouldnt surprise me, as they are old and tired by the time you get them. The rattle, when the car is cold, hit the 2nd cat with your hand and see if it rattles. If it does the cat is shot. A resonator is always after the muffler on a car. Most cars have done away with them. nipper
  21. Silly me, i just went through this. Check the wheel bearing. Sometimes the "effort" to remove an axle can push an old wheel bearing over the edge. I just went through this with Blu, within one tank of gas the wheel bearing was shot. Blu had an axle replaced, and 210,000 miles on the original bearing. nipper
