  1. Tires wil be shot. There is a chance you may have wheel bearing issues, but soobie wheel bearings for those cars are so over designed. Rubber hoses may be an issue. Critter damage may be an issue. Try turning the engine by hand first to make sure it will spin. Squirt oil in all the cylinders and hand rotate. GAs will probably be icky, but strange things may happen (like ti fires right off). Frozen parking brake. At the very least change the oil first and a new fuel filter. nipper
  2. Hint Smokey the bear would not be happy.
  3. Been there done that with a 78 civic. Was interesting to hear the death wales of things popping. nipper
  4. Rule of thumb, well two thumbs. First one is the more critical the part, the nmore important it is to be OE. Second thumb, if it lasted X number of miles, the OE replacement will last just as long if not longer. nipper
  5. what he said. I did the same thing and MAN what a differnce, and not for the better. People underestimate how that 10/90 through to /50/50 split makes a huge differnce. nipper
  6. Depends upon how much they are asking. I'm going to assume since its a california car it doesnt have a rust issue. Are you prepared to buy a non running the car that may need an engine overhaul? nipper
  7. Shifter issues are easy, they are just bushings. It is also possible the car is stuck in two gears at the same time, again a shifter issue. You cant tell anything till you get under the car and shift the tranny from there. nipper
  8. I rotate mine twice a year. Tire rotation has been around as long as there have been tires. nipper
  9. Usually it just takes some drtiving around to break off all the rust. This is not an uncommon thing with disc brakes. This is also why you dont set the parking brake if your going to be away fopr a long peroid of time. It should go away. What airport? Was there an excessive amount of rain? nipper
  10. BAD! BAD! back away from the tools. Your timing is way off. Never Ever use marks on any belt. You always use the marks on the gears as per the mfg. Go to www.endwrench.com and look at the procedure. nipper
  11. Leave them alone. Just follow the procedures that subaru specifies when you first install the headgaskets. nipper
  12. Ok so we confirmed your ignition switch is good. That leaves the (replaceable) starter contacts. They are cheap enough to just throw in the car and see if the problem goes away. nipper
  13. Its going to neutral, 1st or reverse. Does the shifter feel like its moving anything, or does it just feel stuck (you cant move it into any gear). Forget about the transmission for now. nipper
  14. not true. You can actually roll a car more then you would think with it stuck in gear. A few inches is possible, if you stop and think about gear ratios, all the play in the drivetrain, and how healthy the engine is. You still need to compress air in the engine in order to stop the car from rolling. nipper
  15. Your close. It keeps anything with mass from getting caught in the belts and driving the belts off the pullies. Packed snow can do this, along with sticks and stones ... they arent just for bones anymore. nipper
  16. They may not fit. The outback has larger disc brakes. If they do fit, swap the spare tire also for her car. nipper
  17. Get under the car and try the linkage dirtectly. Can be a problem with the shifter. Can you push the car? nipper
  18. They may be too brittle for real world driving. They may look cool, but the extra expense aint really worth it. nipper
  19. More like the only solution (aside from all 4 new). Professionally I really dont like it, but if your in a crunch for money and have no choice, you have no choice. nipper
  20. For the record, its not just subaru. Jag and volvo have the same warining, just to name a few. nipper
  21. Actually the new VDC systems dont have this problem. And they would need to use a steering angle sensor to let the car know its going straight as well. nipper
