  2. I added a ground right to the alt and it made no difference. Even at 2000rpm with everything on the alt is undercharging using a tradational load tester. I may replace the battery cables this weekend, other then that nothing else I can think of. nipper
  3. mine is 13.1, and too me thats too low. I've gone down as low as 11.9 at lights too nipper
  4. Interesting .... My shop says my altenator is putting out the proper voltage/current using their new fangled shiney digital tester. My slightly dirty big metal box with the two humongus battery terminal connectors says otherwise. They had to put in a new battery under warrenty because the battery wouldnt hold a charge anymore. They tried to explain that my wiring was suspect. I disagreed. Blu has had Two aftermarket altenators on him (from differnt shops) , and both seemed to put out too low for my tastes (and man am i pissed). Now that my back is starting to let me do things again (but man do i pay for it the next day) I looked into a OE altenator. 61.00 plus core of 50.00 wow my last one cost 223.00 Oddly thats the same price as an imprezza altenator. SO i called 1st subaru an ordered an altenator. I told John what I have been going through. He said he has had several customers in the same situation, they got frustrated and went with OE (thinking the cost be damned) and it solved there problem. These are subaru rebuilt altenators, so I ordered one. If this solves the problem, the moral of the story would be not only can OE be cheaper, but better. Thought I would share. nipper
  5. I just ran into this with inspection. They put 30 miles on the car and they still couldnt get it inspected, so they said to use the car and bring it back tuesday. The ECU wasnt ready for inspection. grrr nipper
  6. KYB GR2 After renting a hunday accent (not a bad little car) and a nissan sentra i got blku back with the GR-2s. They ride softer then those two, but stiffer then OE shocks. I like them. KYB makes the OE struts. My shop says the car now rides like an SUV, and that is what I was going for. nipper

  8. Age, the bad water pump, previous owners care. head gaskets and aluminum cylinder heads are quite unforgiving, and have a long memory. They are also highly stressed engine parts. nipper

  10. i think my credit card just imploded short ram intake is coming (not from ebay) Heat sheild for the cone filter is coming What was replaced 4 struts with the GR2 (after renting a nissan sentra and an hunday accent it doesnt seem that bad) Automatic shifter cable AC was recharged/leak fixed 4 wheel alignment New battery (warrenty item) 4 wheel alignment Oil Change ( i was due, but i was going to do it myslef, but they did it ....oh well) 2 new radiator hoses right front axle Surprises : There is a thunk under the car sometimes, may be a heat sheild. Every wiring harness under the hood had to be adjusted Air intake box fit issue Dogbone engine mount had to be cut and welded Transmission cable bracket snapped (old age) Left to be done: I really dont like the stress on the rubber fuel lines, i am going to have to replace them. Altenator charging seems low. I am getting one from one of the subaru online dealers (explain to me why they sell it for 61 and everyone else is over 200). Maybe this will cure the issue. Fix my damn dash lights and reprogram everything Return tuesday to get the car inspected and have everything double checked Worrysome: There is some slight binding in the steering, more aparent in left turns then rights. The shop and I both agree that it is the steering shaft extension, and it should go away as it breaks in. Rear
  11. And if your before 1997 1/2 you need to inspect the complet housing. When Blu got repaired, they replaced the housing too. nipper

  16. i use subaru wiper, and i usually get atleast one hit. i hope your not looking for the same wagon stalk with a variable delay that i am.... that would be war nipper
  17. Oh i agree, its not staged, but from an engineering point of view and testing methodolgy and standards, they are very far off. I see they are running out of material, as they are getting off the "myths" and instead recreating things that actually happened. Back to our regularly schedualed thread nipper
