Oil pump leak or a main seal leak will cause dramatic oil loss. Calave covers may, but they have to be practically falling off. My best guess would be the front main seal or oil pomp o rings or both. Your oil is literally being pumped out of the car, and its not safe fro other drivers or motorcyclists to keep driving like this. nipper

Rear wheel bearings are a little weak in this car. It sounds like the car has been well loved, but driven hard, so i dont know how much you can get them down. The HG, block replacement makes sense (someone blew the HG and cooked the engine). Ask them why they are selling, since they practically have a 5yo car. Has the car been hit?

Thats why i was asking about a cloud. First thing first is clean the engine, i bet it wil be really obvious then. Second is file a complaint against your neighboors for harasement. nipper

No. Get a can of engine cleaner and go to a do it yourself car wash. Even if you were to take it to a mechanic the first thing to be done is to clean the engine. Now you can do it, or get charged for a mechanic to do it. You have a big external leak that you need to find, or you might as well kiss your engine goodbye. If you have a replacement car ready, then there is your answer. Just dont get stranded. nipper

replace the pcv valave. Wash the engine top and bottom then drive it for a few days, check for leaks. When you park it slide a large peice of cardboard under the engine and look for drips. Some subaru leaks are really hard to trace. nipper

google subaru connecting rods. I found performance and turbo ones for the 2.0 and 2.5, but then i stopped looking. You can always email any of thoe suppliers for those and see if they know of sources. nipper -

Turbo connecting rods can handle the stresses of high heat and power. You might get away with using a N/A rod, but i wont recomend it. ALso its rare to have to replace all the connecting rods. You can replace just the one. Its not a big deal to balance the rods. Remember for every low cost item you use during a rebuild, the odds of doing this all again in the future goes up significantly. Cost may reflect availability too. nipper -
Carefully look into where you parked, and demand a reason. Contact the owner of the site where you were. Sometimes these things can be huge scams. Also contact any consumer protection agency and DEMAND proof that you were illegally parked. Check the tranny fluid for color and smell. I'll bet you they used a hook and not a flatbed. It takes too long to get a car on a flatbed in these situations. Drive the car in figure 8's forward and reverse and check to see how it feels. I would also do a drain and fill (as insurance). I wouldnt do a flush unless something didnt feel right. If you smell anything funny you may want to talk to the police about filing a stolen car report. nipper

Yes and no. Yes it can be made functional, but it will hurt things in the long run. First off there is nothing under the hood that will benefit from doing this. The air induction is done via the right front fender area under the hood towards the front of the car. Opening up the scoop will result in more drag (possibly lower mpg and more wind noise). If you live in a snow belt, snow and ice can accumilate under the hood. Rain can also get under the hood. Surprisingly the hood is a relativly dry place (even in a monsoon). Functional factory hood scoops take all this into account

I'm part Blackfoot and Cherokee, going back 2-3 generations on both sides of the family. Moms side even had a gypsy (her great grandmother). I wish dad didnt throw out that letter in the 1970's, that invited us to register. Paying for college would have been so much easier. nipper -
Getting parts in Mexico. Experiences?

Check your car insurance. Most US policies are not valid in Mexico. You need to buy a policy at the border (i thin) or a rider. Call your agent and ask. Also dont leave anything in plain sight in the car. Mexico is still the wild wild west. nipper -
Not to hijack the thread, but whay are parts so damn expensive in Canada? The Canadian dollar is 95 cents to one american dollar, so the exchnage rate excuse doesnt fly. Have you looked for a local radiator shop that can rebuild your radiator? nipper
