Ahhhhhhhhhh  The first pinging thread of summer ..... you can try going down a heat range in spark plugs. nipper -
i did an even longer trip last year in a 1997 OBW, and looking at Alaska this year. When was the last time the gear oils were changed ? Aside from Blu throwing a connecting rod, the car needed nothing. i suggest you bring an ipod and a pillow to help support your neck while driving. The car isnt uncomfortable, but if your not used to it you'll get a sore neck. If your not using the roof rack, remove the cross bars. SOmetimes when the wind is in the right direction it gets tiring. nipper

If you dont have air bubbles in the coolant, and are not throwing up coolant, the HG is most likely OK. Do you over heat or run hot? I agree check for an air bubble. replace the radiator cap. What physical condition are the cooling fins in on the radiator. YOu may have to losen the radiator to be able to see the front fins. nipper

That mawwork, but some of our engines have 4 cams and not two. One thing, when using super strong loctite, its extreemly important that the sites to see loctite be very clean. Also use a loctite primer, then it should work. Loctite has many levels of bonding agents, from its coming off with a screwdriver, all the way up to a nuclear bomb wont get it off. Be sure to replace any seals behind the cog before doing this. ALso read up on how to remove the loctite, then decide. nipper

Eating / Drinking Coolant??
nipper replied to goatcheez's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Take a little advice, once one little hose goes bad, others follow it. You may want to replace all the odd little coolant hoses along with the major ones, and be done with it. All that mileage on original coolant hoses is alot to ask. nipper -

The CFM is too low for air suspension on a car. The airlines were really small, so he could never run an airtool enough to make it worth while. another link http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/OnBoardAir.shtml google on board air compressor, you will get more ideas. nipper

Safe Rev Range

i redline Blu often. Its the only way to get on the highway. Its not so much redlining, but doing it with a full load that will hurt. the rev limiter kicks in before you hit valve float. Here are the specs... 1998-1999 2.2L Power: 102 kW , 137 HP @ 5,400 rpm; 145 ft lb , 197 Nm @ 4,000 rpm 2.5L Power: 123 kW , 165 HP @ 5,600 rpm; 162 ft lb , 220 Nm @ 4,000 rpm http://www.internetautoguide.com/car-specifications/99-int/1998/subaru/legacy/outback-wagon/1133/index.html nipper -

A while ago someone else wanted to do the same thing, and it was just easier to install a regular air compressor. Even if you could use the OE AC compressor, you still need an air tank. Also a subaru AC compressor may not move alot of CFMs Now if you use an older york style compressor http://coloradok5.com/york.shtml i just dont know if it will fit under the hood. nipper
