  1. This isnt a HG issue, as it would do it at any time. Also turning the heat on wouldnt help (99% of the time with a failed HG there is no heat).Something this repeatable can be traced to a cooling system issue. i think you may have found the problem all on your own. Another possability is a clogged or decrepid radiator. How many miles are on this puppy? nipper
  2. EEEKK Maybe that will stop them from the US Roads. Just wait for the first time somone tries to sue the Chinese Auto mfg (essentially the chinese govt) and see what happens. Same thing that always does, they ignore it. nipper
  3. Bigger questions.. year mileage on engine. Was the engine ever overheated, and if so how often or how long. nipper
  4. If its still under 100K they should be warrenteed. i dont know how long the work itsel is under warrenty. Also have the shop do a dye test. This makes it possible with black light to trace the leak to its source. Blu always had a sweet smell to her (1997 OBW) untill the engine was replaced. He never lost coolant. My freinds 2005 Forester the same but no coolant loss, and when i rented a 2006 OBW it too had it, but the dealer could never find the source. It may not be as terrible as you think (lets hope). I would replace the radiator cap as a precaution. keep us informed nipper
  5. Yes and no. Its better to look at products from Russia and N korea. The other coutries listed are answerable to the public. CHina is not answerable to the public as a communist regime, and have such a large volume of sales they really dont feel any backlash (yet). Just look at how they have been handling the product issues all over the world. They have killed people in other countries with thier products. All they do is stonewall, deny, threaten. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=56056 http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/05/17/business/trade.php http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/31/AR2007053100901.htmlhttp://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/06/28/health/main2992320.shtml http://news.newamericamedia.org/news/view_article.html?article_id=ea8c428ff274b708c71a4514aec25bab China cant be sued like you would in the western world. CHina has very little tracabilty on the product. China itself doesnt even knowa lot of its products are coming from. They just executed the head of the (equivilant) of the FDA, but they have done nothing to correct the situation internally. China's sudden rejection of food products from the USA seems suspect at best, in a tit for tat way that China does diplomacy. (tires http://www.abcnews.go.com/Business/IndustryInfo/wireStory?id=3315045) Luckily i have a simple taste in food, so im not worried about most of this as far as food wise, but have been paying alot more attention to the source of where things come from. Interestingly some of the Chinese cars that are due to be importes to this country have gone through crash tests, and have gotten zero or one star. i wonder if anything will be done about that. have a good 4th.... nipper
  6. Why do you think the radiator is good? Also do a compression test. nipper
  7. OR.. when i worked for a parts MFG, they came out the back door of the same factory that made the OE parts. But when it comes from china, reverse engineered, poor quality, and a we-dont-give-a-damn-they-must-buy-from-us-because-we-are-great-communist-country mentality appears, Whats acceptable at home isnt in other markets. I hope no one has nay chineese tires..... nipper
  8. I got the AZ discs (made in taiwan .. i can deal with that much better) and the AZ ceramic pads. i did a net search and people seemed to like them. Also got a generic downstream o2 sensor. Hopefully thats something else i can do myself. nipper
  9. Your correct. Ocasionally the HH will get confused if the nose of the car is pointed up, and your backing down the hill. It may be clutch time. How many miles on this clutch? Try starting off from 3 or 4th gear from a dead stop. No matter what you do the car should stall. If it doesnt, its time to start thinking about a clutch. nipper
  10. Clean fluid. Some add Lucas LSD additive which helps depending upon the cause of the TB. nipper
  11. ECU doesnt care if you have oil pressure or not. Its not in the ECU circuit. nipper
  12. OLder roos dont make a lot of power, so its not an issue. On the 2.2 and 2.5 its a HUGE issue. I think my old VW beetle was like 25-30 ft/lb, but the axle nuts were 180ft lb. nipper
  13. OMG i thought all those things rusted to the good earth they were parked on. nipper
  14. a little secret or two.... 1- we dont have any scrapyards or junk yards by me anymore(or worth talking about). Even poor real-estate is under development issues. 2- Since the car accident my self confidence has been shot to hell, so ive been doing little projects to build it back up (not to mention body strength and bending ability). It sucks when you get down on the ground and can't get back up because the wiring that makes those things work is broken to some degree. nipper
  15. Driving home from CT i realized its time for front rotors. I need an affordable source for rotors (tire rack is 50ish and reasonable shipping), and a recomendation on ceramic front pads. Anyone? Thanks nipper
  16. i like it but the door is too long. You wont be able to use a pull in parking space. nipper
  17. Except that there is a pressure switch in the AC line that wont let the clutch engage when the pressure in the system drops too low. You can jump the siwtch, but i dont advise that unless your 100% sure the AC system is fully charged. Running a compressor with low/no gas can ruin it. nipper
  18. You know these fancy kids with Bunji cords... Back in my day all we had were bumperstickers, and mosrt of those were from Wall, South Dakota nipper
  19. VW has always done it. There are a lot of mid year changes. Cars wouold sometimes have a build date on the doors, but that was back when.... nipper
  20. If you start eating axles, then its time to send it off to the great parking lot. Mine had less visable rust then that, but it started pulling axles apart from the unseen frame rot. Its not what you can see that you should be worried about, but what you cant. nipper
  21. Never assume with things like this. We need instructions (it even said it comes with instructions) nipper
  22. Basically what has happened was at some point the lug nuts were over tightened. This fatigued them, and set them up for future failure. My shop tightens lugs by hand (thats why i like them). I hope you had the rest of the nuts replaced. nipper
  23. I got mine, it looks good, but no instructions I am having my shop put them in, and need instructions. darnit nipper
