EA81 Dual Range 4x4 help - it goes kaboom!
Are all your tires the same size? Also manual 4WD is not meant to be used on a dry surface. You get torque bind in the driveline (especially with mismatched tires). The kaboom is the driveline unwinding. Dont use 4wd on dry pavement. nipper

Initial EJ22 start-up and engine break in
nipper replied to Dharma_Bum's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI am going to ask a few questions first... What condition did you find the engine in. How was it stored. Can it be turned by hand? An engine sitting around for a while can be a bit of an unknown. What have you done to the engine to prep it for running before you installed it, if anything? Have you lubircated the cylinder walls? Have you removed the valve covers to see what condition the valve train is in? Rubber parts can dry out when they sit around. Modern engines dont like to sit around. nipper

i always miss the simple ones.
nipper replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyes it is. i was thrown off by when the engine was replaced. The sender and the surrounding metal bacame thier own part seperate from the engine. The Tech said that we should replace the ECU temp sensor too since that took a hit. Now i see the connector (which i didnt before) i see which is which. i love my pain meds weeeee nipper

96 Outback 2.2 no compression
nipper replied to davcoz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXi'm voting for the timing belt, which it seems he has not looked at yet. There is zero indication of a HG failure. HG's dont kill the car, they will still run, but will over heat. Pull the covers and inspect the timing belt, make sure all the marks lign up, then we can start looking at other things. BTW, when was the timing belt last changed? How many miles on the car?

Whine and Shudder in Steering
nipper replied to davis's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXResivoir gets that way. Its something almost everyone over looks. You should do it yourself. You can take it back to the dealer, but its only a 30 minute job in the driveway. Check your belt tightness yourself. Is the shudder in the car while making a turn, or in the steering wheel. Is this an auto or manual? nipper PS check the PS fluid level

P0135 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction
nipper replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou are probably due for another sensor anyway. The front sensor needs to be an OE sensor. Depending upon how you tore the wires, they will need soldering (if you splice them). nipper

nipper replied to davcoz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt's unheard of to get zero compression from all 4 cylinders..... good point about the gauge. nipper

Difficult Hot-start after injector cleaning
nipper replied to itzik93's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere really is no method to bech test injectors (at home) to see which one is worn. You can test coil resistance, but that wont address the issue. DO NOT PRESSURIZE THEM AND BENCH TEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can result in all sorts of ugly things happening if you dont know what your doing. We dont want anyone here winning a darwin award. nipper

Trip odometer stopped... 98 Legacy Outback
nipper replied to cheetah8799's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI have had the spedo out of the car and apart, they arent that complicated. You busticateded the trip odometer, so you may need a new spedo head. On the plus side, its easy to make the numbers match your existing numbers once you play with it a little. nipper
