Passenger side cylinders not firing. Ideas?
nipper replied to T.J.'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXtry creating the leak at the power brake booster and see what happens. Not all vacum lines are equal. Do a compression test. How old is the timing belt. nipper

Intermittent Torque Bind -- is this probably a "Duty C" solenoid?
nipper replied to northgeorgiaroo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you manage to pull the codes, ill bet you its telling you your Duty C is begining to fail. The new fluid prbbly helped to degum and lubricate the solenoid, but it is starting to go. This is one of those things that you fix now, or end up buying a clutch pack along with the solenoid. nipper

Sound from under hood.
nipper replied to dressedtoimpreza's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou may just be hearing the pump from the tranny, which is normal. Take a wooden dowel. Put one end to suspiscous areas, the other ned to your ear (or cup your hand around the end and put your ear to that). This is the the worlds best stethascope. nipper

Passenger side cylinders not firing. Ideas?
nipper replied to T.J.'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey do have a common power, but its common to all 4. Its sounding amore and more like a mechanical issue. Since the plugs are wet, we know fuel is getting in. The odds of two injects leaking are very low. nipper

Interesting find..........so does anybody know?
nipper replied to timintc's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere was a new HG out in 2003. I think your blaming subaru for a dealers error. The dealer should have sent back or trashed all the old stock, instead he decided to use it. Many people here have had the HG issue resolved and a handful had them fail again. Causes were 1- not milling the heads (very impoortanat even if it looks fine) 2- Using non OE parts Subaru can sell the deale as many new HG as they want, its up to the dealer to not use the superceeded design. This is a dealer error. nipper

nipper replied to northgeorgiaroo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCLASS! You have forgotten the basics ... Do you have all the tires properly inflated. Do all the tires match .... Then move on from there. Without that no matter what you do it doesnt matter. (now go flush your tranny). nipper

AC Blows Warm when I am at a Light
nipper replied to msmithmmx's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI disagree :-p . The system was opened, and as a licensed AC tech, with (i am going to assume) a used compressor, he needs to evacuate it. I am curious, how long did you have the dead ac compressor in the car, and how long was the system open for. nipper

Catalytic -- how to diagnose left/right/rear on H6?
nipper replied to yarikoptic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHe is going to have to look in his owners/warrenty manual(propaganda) to see what it is for his car. That must have been a recent change, as i s see the super low emissions are now 150,000 ( i think, im not awake yet). That must have been the trade off. nipper

Catalytic -- how to diagnose left/right/rear on H6?
nipper replied to yarikoptic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhttp://www.cars101.com/subwarr.html Or maybe not, Seems things have changed . I could have swron cats were 100K. First thing to do is unbolt the cats from the engine and take a drive around the block. If you notice a differnce its the cats. Next is to hit a COLD cat with your hand. If it rattles its dead. nipper

97 outback drops cylinder or 2
nipper replied to azbret's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWith something like this step one is a tune-up. plugs, OE wires, fuel filter, pcv valve, air filter. How many miles and when was the last time it had a tuneup. What specifically was/is the code thrown. nipper

Passenger side cylinders not firing. Ideas?
nipper replied to T.J.'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThats an idea. With the engine running, use a spray bottle filled with water and see if there are any RPM changes as you spray all over the engine. Pay close attention to the side with the bad plugs. nipper

Passenger side cylinders not firing. Ideas?
nipper replied to T.J.'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSoobies want the plugs that are recomended for them. If I remebr correctly its not the bosch. They are very picky about this and ignition wires. The spark system is a waste spark system. This means that 1-2 and 3-4 always fire together. Get the proper plug. If its running badly it should throw a code, get the code read. This will give us a better idea of what is misbehaving. nipper

Black comedy of errors:ECU/sensor problem
nipper replied to DTL's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSpeaking from the OE perspective, there is a huge counterfit hardware probelm out in the market, which isn't getting addressed (yet). OE doesnt do 100% QA testing, and buys hardware on certificates. Three guesses where the counterfits come from, and the first two don't count. Very few fasteners are made in the US. Even Boing's dream liner got caught by counterfit fasteners. nipper
