overdrive lock up
nipper replied to supergn6's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXits winter, everyones gas milage takes a big dip. Between the longer warm up period and the winter blends of gas, you have to ride it out. Even without winter blends and the tranny delayed shift, ever since man has made internal combustionengines, cold engines use more fuel till they warm up. Fuel injection has helped, but its still just one of those facts of life, like death taxes and rust. nipper

nipper replied to supergn6's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXits a thermisotr in the tranny so that wont work. Also it aids in the engine warming up faster for emissions. All cars do it so just something to adapt to. nipper

SVX Don't Stop
nipper replied to ecky's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXA bad Booster will make the pedal incredibbly hard and increase braking force, and stopping distance. You have to rule out the booster before you blame the master cylinder. From having both go bad, ild rather have the booster fail then the MC. The MC can be goofy, from intermittent no pedal, to a normal pedal and nothing happens, to pedal to the floor. a Booster will be fairly consistant. nipper

2.5L DOHC Head Gasket Failure *PICS*
nipper replied to WAWalker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe aluminum in the block is weaker then the bolts, so you have to work awfully hard to stretch them, so you dont need to replace them. If you want to, DO NOT buy bolts off ebay. There is a lot of counterfit bolts out there that don't meet specs (thank you china). Also you have to remeber that there is a weird torquing pattern for the heads from subaru. If thats not followed that will give problems. nipper

2002 Outback Brakes - not working when cold
nipper replied to srs_49's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIt must be contagous. Usually i use the remote starter to warm the car then take off. Today i was too far from the car to do that at my freinds house. It was 22 outside. I went to make a 3 pt turn, and Blu's (97 obw 202K)brake pedal was hard as a rock and took two (human) feet to stop. AFter i backed up, it was fine. I'll have to see if it does it again nipper

What Is Happening?
nipper replied to BIGBLUE1212's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf its cracked it has to be replaced. Being cracked will affect its function, not enough to throw a code, but enough to affect performance. nipper
