  1. Actually its one 50/50 when needed. Look at http://www.autozine.org/technical_sc...ech_index.html where they decribe the subaru manual system. Thats another reason why ther e is no increase in mpg. nipper
  2. OK when the fuse is in you are telling the TCU to hold the Duty C open. This leads to a burned out solenoid followed by a 1000.00 repair. So any increase in mpg is lost by that repair bill. You can not compare what VW does or Mercedes or honda with Subaru, They all use differnt systems. i find these posts tiring, do a search its been covered many many many many many times. nipper
  3. Have you checked to see if the bulb is working. The bulb circuit is from the ABS controller. Have they checked to make sure its getting power. It can be as simple as one of the power relays are burned out. email me before 9am tomorrow at nipper.dawg@gmail .com and ill mail you a witrining diagram for a subaru that will give you an idea how its set up. nipper
  4. I dont know what to tell you. Part of me wants to say a unit out of a subaru in a yard that has power, but another part sees your point. And the fact that subaru says that stimies me. Call subaru of america. nipper
  5. "door panel" search http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55261&highlight=door+panel http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36629&highlight=door+panel http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17909&highlight=door+panel (got my connection back) nipper
  6. I was going to say there is a main relay, do what is said above. SOunds like the relay is going bad. nipper
  7. The solenoid is failing. Eventually it just wont work anymore. replace it and you'll be golden. nipper
  8. sigh... I would never ever ever let these guys touch my car ever again even if i had to push it out the shop the first time. You weakend your case of thier being incompetant by going back. I wish you luck nipper
  9. er um ..... The first one sounds like lifters. The second one almost sounds like a rod knock. How to rule out the rod knock: Pull one spark plug wire at a time and see if the noise changes pitch. If its a valve train noise it wont change pitch. If it does .......... bad nipper
  10. Use the search, i'm having connection issues otherwise i would tell you. Check the stickies too, its a regular topic. nipper
  11. HAHAHAHA i'm glad i dont have that OS system to deal with. I just have elderly mother v7.8 which refuses to upgrade. nipper
  12. I want to say no, since they get damaged in order to set the sir bag off. If you have everything fixed, i would take the car to subaru and let them read the codes ands see what the issue is. nipper
  13. YAY FINALLY a plus for living on the eastern seaboard. i was getting tired of all these NW people bragging about getting their soobies dirty :-p (just because) nipper
  14. i know it was i think the reset time is ten minutes, but usually everyone deos it over night. This wil also reset the TCU which should help. It takes about 1000 miles (give or take) for it to fully learn you again. nipper
  15. You can also install an auto tranny from another FWD subaru. Seems all the issues are with the AWD SVX. The trannies last about 80K in a clip stock, so if its gone to 133K its had tranny work done. Tranny issues are almost guarenteed in an AWD SVX, the FWD should be ok. I havent heard the rotor issue but the issues are a 1200 dollar or more windsheild. The tranny issue is resolved by a cooler AND a filter. The trannies fail because the lockup TC sheds material and clogs up the cooler. The rear wheel bearing issue is done by using legacy wheel bearings (I think thats the fix). The engine aside from having two more cylinders is straight forward subaru. Cars seem to hold up well, thoug realize electrically they are more complicated then a legacy so make sure everything works. There is an SVX board to check out. DO a google search. nipper nipper
  16. everything back then was a death trap. Look at Nash, VW, Mini, and nameless other small cars from that era. But they were cute deathtraps. nipper
  17. Do a hard reset of the ecu. Leave the ecu or battery unplugged for an hour. Next do a clutch test. Try to start the car off from 3rd or 4th gear the car should stall. If it stalls then the clutch is fine. being one of the search nazis , i wouldnt tell you to do a search on it as this is a different question then what we have had in the past. nipper
  18. In all honesty, i dont know. I have yet to replace one personally. I know when I had the middle uni replaced on my car the front half of the driveshaft came out with no problem. The drive shaft shop replaced the universal. From having it posted here in the past, I have heard it can go either way. Right now I have internet issues so I can't give you a firm answer. Call Jamie and ask. nipper
  19. you are over analyzing, now put the tools down and get a beer. If there is a short in the starter solenoid i dont care how you hook it up you will have the same issue. The starter circuit is simple. If your jumping from battery to starter and still having a problem, that cuts out everything and points to the starter. Personally i just replace the entire thing. nipper
  20. look at the amount of pins, if they have the same amount of pins i dont see why not nipper
