  1. How does someone replace a waterpump and not a timing belt? At that low a mileage and year the car will need a timing belt (time can be just as bad as mileage). Also find out why the mileage is so low, and how often the oil was changed. If it was changed by mileage and not calender (especially with short trips) i would closely listen to the engine. It sounds high to me. Check on bluebook what the recomended value should be. nipper
  2. How many miles are on this car ?When was the last time the car had a tune up. Just for the hell of it check the crankase pully to make sure it isnt loose. Is there any time that its worse or better? nipper
  3. Can be a combination of problems. Check the condition of the radiator and the cooling fins. Is the puddle coming from the side or the middle of the engine (water pump leaking). A quick HG test is to start the car with the raditor cap off. If its a major issue the car will start vomiting coolant asap. If its little the car will burp when the thermostate open, then top off if needed, and see if there are bubbles in the coolant. Do you know how many miles are on this car? When was the last time it was serviced or had the timing belt/water pump changed? nipper
  4. and even if a soobie could do that i wouldnt want too. After all we expecty our soobies to live another day nipper
  5. If it was just pareked it shold be ok. Usually there is an air pocket in the engine that will keep the water out, and the crankase is air tight for the most part. At worst one cylinder gets water in it. The first thing i would do is see if you can crank it by hand. If you want to take the engine just to fiddle with it, go ahead, its always fun to take things apart. nipper
  6. Thats the standard repair, and so far everyone seems happy with it. They only do two because i think (dont laugh at me) it has to do with the direction of the connection rod on the power stroke and gravity. Which side are they replacing. nipper
  7. I know some people with 100 mile one way commutes. But man thats a lot of driving. nipper
  8. Call them ask for Jamie (she is on this board) and she should be able to help you out. nipper
  9. They are all like this. One was so bad I actually got somone to show me what i was doing wrong (i can rebuild a engine but cant replace a damn wiper blade). I got the new wiperblades, the ones that look like they are just one peice from bosch, and shose are so easy to install. For that fact alone i may stick with them. nipper
  10. flickering lights is a voltage issue. Also cables do get old and sometimes need replacing. One trick to see if its the cable is if it happens again, take one side of a jumper cable, and go from the starter terminal to the battery then start the car . If it starts replace that cable. nipper
  11. There is a chance the battery was defective. Have someone do a load test on the charging system, as well as check the voltage. You may have a marginal battery. When i get a no start the very first thing i do is check the battery termincal and make sure they are clean and tight. This is the simpliest cause for a no start. The next one to suspect is the NSS but since you said the start was getting slow, im betting on a marginal altenator or dirty battery cables. nipper
  12. Break a valve spiring, loose a valve rtainer. Thise are a few of the ways one can drop a valve. nipper
  13. Rear ends roar when they go bad, and the non SVX's rarely have a bad rear end. Inspect your rear tires, and look for broken belts. Rotate one at a time and see if it moves. nipper
  14. Mice can chew through all sorts of things. How many miles are on this car, and do you get a CEL. If no CEL and running like crap, i would inspect the harnesses nipper
  15. I think someplace in the mass of TB threads, somone did it themselves with new parts from the dealer, and the parts were in the 400-500 range i'll see if i can find my bill and see what the parts cost . nipper
  16. RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cant tell if the block are cyl walls are damaged, but a stall due to overheating usually means the engine got really really hot. Idiot lights will come on when the car stalls. My question is how long before they restarted it, a mintute, an hour , a day , a week ... nipper
  17. so what there are like 4 city limits in the entire state nipper
  18. not really. It may be too harsh for the plastic at high concentrations. remember just because a little bleach whitens whites doesnt mean alot of bleach will get them really white. Another thing people try is to remove the sensors and clean them with a pencil eraser, but initially that made mine worse. The cleaner we use is specifically made to clean fuel senders. nipper
  19. bhp = brake horsepower. Brake horsepower is the Hp at the crankshaft without any accessories (alt water pump etc). nipper
  20. I had a 1998 legacy L with the 2.2L. I would get the one with the lower mileage, timing belt is due just because its almost 10 years, and the seals will start leaking soon, but at that mileage, i would take it. Service the tranny too. nipper
  21. Full tank, since you want the fuel covering the sender. An odd plus for my car i have to do it once every 6 months, cleans up my gauge and gets rid of an odd stumble that shows up. nipper
  22. Cool. Either way, it looks like his sensors got decapitated. (something else for me to make a mental note about) nipper
