  1. I'm not sure what your issue is. When was the last time the fuel filter was changed. Also look at the driveshaft universal joint and carrier bearing. nipper
  2. ut oh ... having a little torque bind is like being a little pregnant. First off replace the PS belt. Belts get loose when they are cold, and it may just be time for a belt. Secondly the TB, at this stage change your tranny fluid (if its an automatic). Make sure all your tires match and are properly inflated. You may want to insert the FWD fuse to make sure it goes away, this will tell you if there was any damage to the awd unit yet, and if the duty c solenoid is funtioning. If its a manual, its only a matter of time befroe you need a new Viscous unit (and if you wait too long a center diff). This is of course assuming all your tires match. nipper
  3. It doesnt take a lot of oil to make a lot of smoke. How do you know about the scratch in the cylinder wall? YOu need to do a wet/dry compression test. If the numbers are good then it can be a valve stem seal (but i suspect its the scratch) nipper
  4. The first whats this is the brace for the trailer hitch. The brace is broken, and i can't tell if the hitch is home made or what. The second is a missing exhaust stud, easy enough to fix/replace. Engine needs to be resealed, and the rear diss has a leak someplace. I agree that this is a 300-500 dollar car. nipper
  5. unless he hooks them up if he gets both. I hate it when things dont work nipper
  6. Overdrive is what he said, thats what 4th gear is. TC lockup is now considered lock-up. Back when Lockup TC first came out it was considered overdrive. nipper
  7. When i grow up i want to be a dodge ram truck .... that comes to mind. Always been impressed with people who can do bodywork like that, its a real talent. nipper
  8. I think that was the first honest to god ohmygodimgoingtodie moment on my ninja, breaking hard from 75mph because a deer jumped out at 1pm ish. This may sound silly but i thought they only did that at night. nipper
  9. Has anyone ever overheated thier tranny to get the light come on? I am just curious nipper
  10. Automatics have a NSS that indictaes neutral and park. SO thats just something to look into. The reason for not coasting to light or stop in neutral is incase you have to take evasive action (the little pedal works as well as the big pedal). There may be a minute amount of increased wear on the tranny, but otherwise its not a big deal. In general you use less gas in neutral at a light then in dirve, but it really is a small differnce, unless you are in a city and get a lot of red lights.
  11. Heat doesnt matter. There is one on ebay thats red if that helps. nipper
  12. Sounds like another oil leak. Get under the car when you first start it in the morning, you should be able to see smoke come off of where. Plan b is to clean the under carrige of the car, then the next day look for the leak. Thats the one problem with soobies. Any other car you have a leak your keeping the driveway fresh. Soobies it all ends up on the Y pipe. nipper
  13. Excessive silicon around the windsheild can be hiding a rusted windsheild frame. nipper
  14. That should read "really apply your bank account" nipper
  15. Last time I rode my ninja through the Black hills, S.D., there was a terrible accident with a guy on a Harley. The Black Hills in places are open range. He blasted through a cow (yes a moo cow). Needless to see one cow became two cows. Later in the day I found out the guy broke almost everybone in his body (my guess is he was doing more then the posted speed limit) but lived. nipper
  16. It's part of the risk of buying a used tranny. Remeber that when a car graveyard gets a car its because there is something wrong with the car. If the car is running when it comes in they can do some testing. If the car is low mileage they make assumptions based on that mileage (which are usually safe assumptions). The best you can do is get a yard that stands behind its warrenty. Like said above, if it was a regular manual, it may be better to get a rebuilt one, but throw in the AWD thats another grand. nipper
  17. How many times have you had the rotors cut? Rotors dont have a lot of meat on them, and the more you cut them, the more they will warp. Its just easier to replace the rotors (and sometimes cheaper) then repeatedly cutting them. What do you mean by rear drive engaged? This has no bearing on bearings. The bearing always carries the load of the car, no matter what the driveline is doing. Rear axles rarely go bad, and this would not cause it. If it was bad it would click like a front one. Check your parking brake to make sure its seated properly. nipper
  18. There is a sort of interconnect with the hill holder, but the worst that that will do is make a break drag, otherwise no. Look at the bracket under the dash where the pedals mount, maybe there is a broken weld? Can you explain what your seeing a little better? You have a hydraulic clutch so that rules out the usual suspects like a broken motor mount. nipper
  19. I buy mine from radiator.com. Did yours go crucnch or does it just need replacing? nipper
  20. Mine isnt theory either (its from observation and the factory manual). MY 97 with a NEW awd unit kicks in very quickly. People seem to forget (or unreasonably expect) things to last for ever, which they dont. Be it the AWD, headgaskets, engine, or transmission they do wear out (some sooner then others). It can be that your unit is tired, and the switch just forces full pressure instantly. Something to consider. nipper
  21. Thats pretty accurate except one or two points. The Duty C solenoid works in conjunction with a spool valve inside the transmission to vary not only the period the solenoid is on, but also the pressure to the clutches. This is where the dash switch to get manual AWD fails so badly. People dont always take that part of the circuit into considertaion. You can force 50/50 split under three conditions, Reverse, Low, and ful throttle. In the newer cars there is a G sensor and the steering angle sensor also incorporated into the system. I know in the older cars there is also a G sensor under the console, which i think is either part of the AWD or ABS or both (can't get an answer on that). nipper nipper
  22. HEY we have to make some sacrifices nipper
  23. there is one more option (since you already answered.....) You said there is compressed air. You can pressurize the cylinders and look for a leakdown of the air pressure. nipper
  24. Sounds all good. you dont have a brake dragging? (and anyone can overtighten anything... the things I've seen ) nipper
