2002 2.5L Loses Power Up Steep Grades
nipper replied to joesauer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYour going to have to untill this is fixed. You really dont want to lug tthe engine to the point where it pings. That is very very BAD knocking, not ping, and can do damage to the engine. nipper

Clutch trouble
Because its Autzone. Though autozone is one of the better chains (dont even get me started about piss boys). Can just be human error. A human has to pull it off the shelf. nipper

2002 2.5L Loses Power Up Steep Grades
nipper replied to joesauer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhat happens when you manually downshift the car? The pinging under load, sounds like a dead knock sensor, though it has a really wierd way showing up. nipper

Compression Test Results
they are fairly even. it shows you a tired engine, but still relativly balanced. you should do a wet test if you want to see if the lower compression is from valves or rings. I have always done it cold on an aluminum engine, as you dont want to mess with plugs on a hot engine (can damage threads). Also do it with the throttle wide open, and a fully charged battery (or a jump from a running car). nipper

Fuel guage dropping off.
nipper replied to mulcheese's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTry something else first. Get a bottle of techron and put it in your next tank. This stuff actually works well and helps alot. I have treid the cleaning thing and it didnt work. I would suspect the side without the fuel pump. but it can be both.

Abs Light Stays On...98 Forester
nipper replied to subarucity's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXStart as stated above. the second most common reason is a dirty sensor. You just need to get under the car remove and clean the sensors (wipe them off). Subaru ABS is like the rest of the car, seems to last for the life of the car. nipper

Turn signals balk when car is warmed up for long time
nipper replied to SubaruForDan's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXthis coming from someone who wont by new tires Cookie you saw the electrical load on mine and it did fine. Where would you put the spare? Also its got to be in a box so it vents outside the car, and use a battery isolator i was thinking the same things, as i have "Alaska" rattling around in my brain. nipper

Crashed my wagon
Let the insurance companies fight it out. Thats what you pay them for. Since you rear ended another car, in every state you have no defense. if you do get sued you will get sued for the max of your insurance coverage. if its a no fault state she can't even sue for whiplash. It is going to look scary for a while, but thats what the lawyers are for.

Crashed my wagon
From being rear ended.... its takes 24-48 hours for whiplash to rear its ugly head. Most doctors consider anything less where the driver can walk or has not hit thier head on anything else suspect (trust me im suing someone who rear ended me). Did you have collision on the car? if not the insurance company will pay to get her car fixed but not yours. Now to be fair, just beacuase it takes weeks for you to hear somone claim neck pain, it usually takes that long for the insurance companies to communicate about bodily harm. In my case it took almost 6 weeks. After bring slammed at 50mph at a red light, it took 8 weeks to find out i had a herniated disc. Some things got better with therapy, other things get worse. I wasnt getting better thats how we found it. I did go to a hospital and they missed the disc. So dont be so quick to acuse someone of faking it. the time before that that i got rear ended (a hard tap) i felt it 24 hrs later. My subaru was totaled, his air bag didnt even go off. So from being on the receiving end (and 160,000.00 in surgical bills) dont be so quick to judge. nipper

Rear engine tranny: Now w/ Pics
Its a late 60-early 70 autostick. You want a full manual. It had a torque converter and a vacum operated clutch. There was a hydrau,ic pump on the front of the VW engine to operate the TC. nipper

dancing temp gauge
nipper replied to cricket's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXer um.... You wont get a code for a fuel sender. Its not even part of the ECU circuit. Subarus have notorously bad fuel senders that can usually be made better with Techron fuel additive. Personally i would say unless the sender is dead, do the techron thing. I have never bought major parts off ebay that were not OE. Luckily its something thats easy to get to. nipper

nipper replied to michaelbteam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXblown Heagasket is not blown. Blown is a connecting rod through the side of the engine ...... nipper PS i like the engine. It has lots of torque and makes mountain driving a pleasure.

used suby opinions wanted
nipper replied to michaelbteam's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThat comes from a consensous of many many many subaru sites. It's a very educated guess, and i would even bet money on it by all those here with 2.5 and dont blow head gaskets (i consider the cut off 140,000 miles and no recent servicing of the coolant system). You wont get numbers from subaru, but from watching the boards HG's do come up, but not in any amount to signify more then 15%. It's just the engineer in me. BTW other cars do have premature HG failure, some in much larger numbers, and they treat the buyers worse then subaru does. nipper

Sudden loss of power- I thought she was a gonner
The ignitor is in your dustrubutor. Its a little black box that replaced points. It tells the coil when to fire. It can drive you nuts to diagnose untill it finally fails. When it starts to die it can stall the car or make it sputter. nipper
