  1. Ok where can i find a rear wiper blade arm assembly (not just the blade). It wont keep contact against the entire rear window. I usually take the old wiper blade (the longer one) in the store to match them up as sizes can be odd. nipper
  2. did they do a wet vs dry test. Odds are its eithe r a HG or a valve, as subarus dont throw piston rings. either way the HG has to be replaced. nipper
  3. Another car that is exempt are rear engined cars, for the same parking break reason. Here in NY my corvair was exmept because it wouldnt fit on the machine. The dynos here are really close to the wall of the garage, and the corvair had too long an overhang. My mechanic at the time didnt even get to worry about the hand brake. Oddly most of the older cars i have owned had always passed for thier years. nipper
  4. that just makes you 2wd, so you wouldnt have torque bind. nipper
  5. If you think thats scary, we wont even mention how the fuel sneder operates nipper
  6. In NY subarus of all kinds are granted immunity from the dyno. The gas stations dont have AWD dynos, and the other reason is the parking brake. nipper
  7. You do have a "transfer like case". It operates the same excpet of re routing power to the front wheels. Dont go more then 50 on dry pavement. You can get torque bind and it will make the car hard to steer. I have done 60 in 4wd high on 40 miles of snow covered (packed) /slushy highway with no problem (I was the only one on the road dumb enough to go to work). nipper
  8. Rust where the frame rails attach to the unibody. Any rust in those frame rails forget it. And for that price it should be perfect. nipper
  9. heheheh "its just the gears in the tranny" well duh. Depending on the mileage they shouldnt grind 2-3-4-5 or 5-4-3-2. Subarus may grind at times 2-3 but that can be recitifed with a lube change usually. I had one that did that for 80,000 miles when i shifted too fast. It really depends upon how much you want to spend and what they are asking. MPG range from 19 - 28 on the 2.5L so you should get better then that with the 2.2L nipper
  10. this is true both with manuals and automatics. I dont know where SubRat gets his info, but he is far off base. TB is not caused by overheating the transmission. transmission failure does occur in overheated trannies, but its rare here that i see an auto failure (about even with the manuals...again rare). Also in normal use you dont over heat a tranny. TB occurs from poor maintannce, mis matched tires and age. TB in manuals always occurs from mismatched tires, or driving on a flat. In a manual after the circle test try to start off from a dead stop in 3rd gear. This will tell you what condition the clutch is in (car should stall). In an automatic inspect the fluid. if its brown or burnt walk away. Brown is indictive mostly of the AWD clutches being worn and fluid never chainged, burnt means its starting to slip. nipper
  11. Thats up to you. Look at the cost of new springs, if its not terrible you may want to do it. Other question is how long do you plan on keeping the car. blu (97 OBW 200,300) is going to get new struts in the spring and springs. i saw from another post someplace on here how the car gained another inch or so using some sombination of differnt springs and new struts. i'ld like to try a trip to alaska next, so i want new dampers all around. nipper
  12. I would push this with SOA and the dealer. This covers up to 2002 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=488157 After 2002 the issue was fixed, so i guess it really depends when in 2003 your car was made. Have you had any cooling system work done recently? Sometimes HG's do go just because. (just playing devils advocate). nipper
  13. wouldnt a parts car that was a Subaru be far more helpful then an Effin car (what is that dutch) :-p nipper
  14. Actually they are struts, not shocls in the front (huge difference). Yes cheap strauts can transmit more noise. In reality new struts will transmit more noise then tired ones anyway, so its just symantics. If you replace all the bushings and top hat that will help. nipper
  15. Its getting harder and harder to see the tire infaltion specs. uYou have to look really hard. Some tires run at the mfg spec look almost flat. The mfg spec should be the minimum, and the tire mfg the max. Happyness is in the middle. nipper
  16. Re packing doesnt really do anything for wear. your better to bite the bullit and just replace them. nipper
  17. Are you sure its not the line pressure solenoid? or the front pump solenoid? See there are a few things it can be nipper
  18. Isnt that the year that was subject to the recall, removing the tow hooks? the tow hooks were too low and if you hit a parking barrier they would go off? nipper
  19. im loopy from meds, start this again iin the morning so we can play with it.
  20. no mine died out of old age. I have taken the car on backroads, undeveloped roads, fir roads and goat paths, and decided that i dont need it. The tcu did a wonderful job. nipper
  21. scantool will not work. period. You are an obdI car. Scan tool is for OBDII only. To read obdI you need to follow the proceedures in the manual or get the very expensive dedicated code reader: connect the test mode connector (i do beleive these are green) Turn the ignition to on Make sure the check engine light is on Observe the check engine light. Make sure it lights (book is alittle odd at this point) dissconnect the test connectors (car still on) Observe the flashes and count them the first long flash will designate the the first digit fo the code, short flashes will designate the second digit. i can scan and email the pages to you. nipper
  22. no silly, you took it out of context. they replaced the clutch pack, housing, seals and duty c solenoid. nipper
