  1. HEATHEN! He who speaks of the evil "H" ...... (and they have a crappy awd sytem anyway)
  2. I know people belevie what they want to, but unless your doing it first hand, never beleive what others say. BTW the fuel consumption is directly linear to the energy the fuel makes. This is an established fact that e85 has 30% less energy then gasoline. I drove cross country in september and october, the only places i saw e85 stations were in Iowa. Iowa also had premium selling for less then regular. "some ethanol" is NOT e85. "Some ethanol" is gasahol at 10% ethanol. Being from NY i dont see what the big deal is about gasahol as we have had it since the 1980's. Here are the facts in black and white http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/byfuel/FFV2000.shtml http://www.ve85.com/FAQ/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol_fuel http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20060812062229AAq6pno nipper
  3. Do everything else first. What makes you think it needs a carb? nipper
  4. use a light pedal. remeber this is an AWD vehical, there is a lot of stuff for the engine to move, and its a heavy car. My 2.2L legacy got 22-23 in city driving, my 2.5L outback gets 19 with normal driving, 22 if i use a light pedal. Both were automatics. Also its winter, so gas mileag will drop. nipper
  5. all engines with fuel injection have some sort of IAC, and yes you probably hit the problem right on the nose. nipper
  6. Its way to bright in foul weather (and on pitch black roads), not to mention is probably illegal, depending upon how tivket hungry the local police are. nipper
  7. But we forget that is 7 subaru gallons, which is actually 10 standard gallons nipper
  8. and that answers my question on the condition of the engine, then just be happy it runs. nipper
  9. personally i like external regulators, but those days are long gone. I hate to replace an altenator just because a regulator went bad, or a diode burned out, but those days are long gone. nipper
  10. You got a point. When Blu got her new engine, i couldnt tell it was running in the morning as all the piston slap is gone. Is'nt 2004 a bit late for piston slap, thats another reason i'm concerned. I thought they started using the new pistons in 2003 nipper
  11. ok then in that case i can understand it. But what happens when your running that much boost and need to get gas where there is no e85? If this is a car thats married to town, then thats fine, but now your talkign about having a second car for real trips, or am i wrong (talking turbo/super charged engines here, not n/a) nipper
  12. Yes you can rejet the carb to run on e85, but at that point your married to e85. I hate to ask the obvious question, but whay run on something that yeilds 30% less gas mileage, so in the end is more expensive to run? nipper
  13. Electric Motors actually, not engines Back in the dawn of horseless carriges, there was steam, electric and internal combustion. Electric was winning untill the invention of the electric starter. Steam was high maintanence but also fairly clean to run. Odd how the noisest and dirties contraption won out. nipper
  14. What he said. No need to do any further work, its the Alt. When the alt goes bad, it lights up the brake light, and possibly the alt light. When voltage gets really low it wil light up the ABS (what at this point is called the ABout to Stall light). nipper
  15. They started phasing out platnum in the cat and used something differnt to get lower emissions. I think this has a lot to do with the shorter life. nipper
  16. I had a 2.2L get 28mpg highwya on three consecutive tanks of gas (I wasnt driving it my freind was, but I was with him). I could never get beter then 34 myself. nipper
  17. We can't be beat by no stinkin saab ... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16070928/ nipper
  18. er um, on my 1988 GL i got 24 around town and 34 on the highway, he is a bit low. If you search the gas mileage topics people get higher then that with the 1.8L unless hes got an automatic. nipper
  19. Get the scangauge off of ebay, or rent one from an autoparts store so you can see what the code is when it comes up. Intermittenet CEL if its a multiple fault can cause good sensors to go out of range. nipper
  20. A few questions 1- Was the flywheel machined (subaru flywheels dont take kindly to machining). 2- What brand clutch was put in (many complaints about inexpensive popular clutch kits out there). OE is really the only place to go for some parts, this is one of them. nipper
