Its not impossible, but not recomended (and i am not going to say how either). The vehical is not designed for RWD as far as balance, the ABS and depending what level of awd you have. You will void your warrenty Your better off just selling it or trading it in for a RWD pickup truck. And why? nipper

the friction modifier is only a stopgap. If you tried everything else, and had to use an additive, its only a matter of time. I am not sure what the stuff does, but you need friction to make the AWD work. I am assuming you added it to the tranny fluid. If you added it to the diff fluid i dont have a clue nipper

Lets see how to title this, several possabilities I'm getting a 3 yr, 36000 mile warrenty I'm getting the oil leakes fixed I saved 700.00 on a timing belt and reseal Finally the piston slap noise will be gone WOHOO more power I really didnt want to leave San Francisco yet anyway Blu is dead, long live Blu Finally HA! The headgasket didnt go (but no one mentioned connecting rods) Here i was driving along minding my own business. Stoped to get gas 100 miles west of Reno. Smelled a little more oil leaking then usual, but figured it was spilled oil from me adding a quart. I checked the oil it was fine. Car was not did not overheat. Going up a long hill the oil light flickered twice. i decided to try to pull over to see what that was about. Unfortunitly i didnt have time..... smoke was pouring out of the car. Pulled over the engine compartment was soaked with oil. i tried restarting it, looked like old fathful. Called AAA and the highway patrol (didnt feel safe where the car was, on a curve and too many trucks). The tow showed up before the highway patrol. Had a choice between Reno or Aurburn. The tow driver knew where the dealership was in auburn, so went there. So far GoldRush has been nice to me. I have a 2006 Outback rental for 35.00 a day and no mileage fee (AAA gold is paying for it). They said about a week on the Subaru Rebuild to get my car back (Factory warrenty long block). Service writer was putting one in his car too, so we figure about 4500 (Mastercard). Now i decided before this trip if the engine blew, i would have the money to replace it, and take that risk. One day in South Dakota i thought i heard a slight rod knock but it never came back again. I lost two rods ( i am a show off what can i say). Previous owner changed the oil once a year ( dont know if it was synthetic). Oddly im not that upset. The dealership didnt try to sell me a car, i was shocked. The service writer said with a new engine I am good for another 200K. For the record i like my 1997 better then the 2006. nipper

Been in San Francisco for a week. 194,000 a 3800 mile trip and the original head gasketTallest climb was 7200 feet. Gas milage avg 25, lowest 17, highest 31. now all i have to do is get home. Another 2900 miles in the other direction. I met cookies and had beers with him, he had to adjust a wiper arm on my car, thats all. The doomsayer of my HG admited they may not be that bad after all. Cookie is a great guy. nipper

The myth comes subaru, so they may know something about it. AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE there is alot more to the AWD system aside from the duty c solenoid. There is the solenoid. There is an internal spool valve. There is the clutchpack WHICH IS DESIGNED TO SLIP TO ALLOW FOR TURNS You get 50/50 in reverse and low. The spool valve determines the pressure, the duty c determines how the pulsing of the clutch pack. Its like a light switch, the DUTY c is the on off, and spool is the amperage. At low speeds the spool vavle allows max available pressure to the clutch pack, and high speed it reduces the pressure to the clutch pack so the force is consistant to the clutch pack. The spool regulates line pressure from the tranny to the clutch pack, the c regulates the amount of split. Odd, cookie and i just talked about threads like this, and why and whne i choose to bow out. i am choosing to bow out of this one. Sometimes some of these are like nipper

i think you are confusing things. On my 1997 is is located on the right front radiator mount. It has clips so that it can be removed to access things. The other can is a fuel vapor seperator (at least thats how it used to be), so that the canister doesnt suck up liquid. i may be wrong, but the canister is under the hood nipper

As i have said earlier, quite a few have. No one here knows the logic, just the inputs and outputs of the TCU. The signal itself is a pulse, with the ECU monitering the voltage spikes to make sure the solenid (as it does with all solenoids) is operating. Granted no one has done this on a freash transmission, but with a 3500 or more gamble, ild just rather let the puter do what it is designed to do. nipper

coolant temp or coolant temp sensor for your ecu?. Actual coolant temp DOES affect your gas milage. if the temo does not go above 182 degrees F the car will stay in open loop mode. In open loop the car is running at its least effecient. The computer sensors are not interacting with each other. nipper

The AWD is basically controleed by the differntial in front and rear axle speeds, along with selecting low gear, reverse or wide open throttle. This leaves the option of a signal generator in one of the wheel speed senors. reproducing WOT will cause too many issues, and so will selecting low. If you cut out the VSS you loose awd completly. If there is more then a 50 mph differential between front and rear AWD cuts out. nipper
