i dont know if it would have a catastrophic failure, but i would imagine if it would self destruct, possibly ruin the clutch fork, and all those little metal peices in the bell housing. May also damage the "fingers" on the pressure plate. And of course you know these things never fail at a good time. nipper

It sounds like the belts are worn out. Dont by the belts from the books in the store, i did that and the belts were too big. i was not happy as i am a one car household. If you have one car, it may be easier to get them from subaru just to get the right size the first time. Two car houshold take them with you and make sure that the new ones are a hair smaller then the old ones. Better yet if you can still see the belt numbers. nipper

thats been a recent change, i think thats acceptable if the tires are rotated per mfg recomendation. Rotation is falling under the catagory of engine oil, no two peoples opinions are the same. One thing to beware of is if you have directional tires, the tire shop may do a cross roatation and damage the tires (happened to me). Tire rotation is given to the new kid to do. nipper

Run very far and very fast away from ebay for internal engine parts. Ask your self if you want to do this job twice, if you do use the ebay stuff, if not use subaru. EBay is good , the parts may be ok, but you dont really know where the parts are coming from, and no one really stands behind them. nipper

After time any metal will weaken and break with time after being "worked". Springs brake, frames break etc etc. Do they break, yes, is it common, not really. There does seem to a batch of questionable ones out there (99 maybe not sure). All it takes is one little imperfection in the steel, time, and road salt. nipper

well it doesnt suck, it pushes. Impeller type pumps do not have an suction, its only flow (and high flow) and some pressure. The perceived pressure is created by the flow of the mass of water. If there was real pressure, you would be blowing things up all over the place. Impeller pumps need to be submurges in order to move liquids (ie a block full of coolant). nipper

flush to try to cure it, along with the usual tires stuff (inflation, all the same size etc). http://legacycentral.org/library/torquebind.htm Also these units do wear with age, especially if they have never had regular flushings. If it is a lite TB flushing should fix it, but the higher the mileage, there is a chance of it coming back again then its repair time. My flush lasted a year, then the duty c failed and it was all over. nipper

sometimes too low a mileage is a bad thing. Subarus like to be driven, at 80,000 miles your going to need to do the entire front of the engine as soon as you start driving it like a normal person. You dont say if they are auto or manual. Sometimes low mileage cars are not that well maintained as people go by the mileage and not the calander. nipper

right side engine problems

Generally thats not a good thing either, sounds like carbon build up (lots of it) maybe on one cylinder, but if it runs without pinging, enjoy nipper -
How long should clutch last?

its called a pressure plate universaly. You have a pressure plate, clutch disc, throw out bearing and a pilot bearing. Due to the amount of work involved you replace all parts at the same time. Also a glazed clutch disc with a new pressure plate means you have to do everything all over again. Its a hell of a gamble, i would not recomned it to anyone, its like replacing one brake pad. nipper -

You need to see the low side and high side reading. That gauge that cames with the can has almost no accuratcy as far as gauges go (trust me i used to calibrate gauges for a defense contractor. Taking only the low side is like taking ony half your blood pressure, and thats the bottom number. nipper
