  1. you need more miles, my 98 leagacy with 178K never did it, and my 97 OBW idles as smooth as glass. nipper
  2. dont really know, just remeber it from other threads. You may have to remove the left inside rear panel to find it, unless somone chimes in. nipper
  3. YOu can have somone do a due test to find the leak. They but dye in the coolant then use a black light to trace the source. nipper
  4. mad at the oil pump (reseal or replace)? Since the engine is out of the car i would do the spark plugs too. Do both main seals. Also replace the tensioner. do cam seals, water pump, the stupid plate if its plastic. nipper
  5. NONONONONO Bad Biped no biscuit. NEW hardware. NEW springs and retainers. You may be able to get this from a autoparts store, but you will prbbly have to go to sooby. nipper
  6. i have 182,000 and it will still freeze you out of the car. nipper
  7. its buried near the power window antenna (if you have one) on the left rear side of the car nipper
  8. check the head light relays, and the plug at the headlight. May need a new pigtail due to corrosion. nipper
  9. when was the last time this thing had a tune up. i bet from the low mileage the plugs are fouled. if this is all local driving go to a slighty hotter spark plug. Give the car a full tuneup, plugs wires and filters. If your doing maint by the mileage and not by the calender, switch to the calender. This thing is way over due for a tuneup if it hasnt had one and a tranny oil change. nipper
  10. Have you replaced the hardware in the Parking brake (springs and retainers) inside the drum. Hardware gets tired over time and needs to be replaced. Culd be the heat from normal braking is causing the springs to yeild and the shoes to drag. nipper
  11. its a HG. Has all the classic signs. Get the exhaust test for the radiator. Also look for bubbles in the coolant. Radiators dont seem to clog up untill higher mileage, and usually only when the AC is on. You can get a raditaor for about 100 i think from raditaor.com. ALso change your oil when you have the HG fixed. Oil isnt keen on being over heated either. nipper
  12. i agree. For 3500 you could have got a rebuilt engine installed with a 3 year warrenty. That dealer not only ripped you off, but royally screwed something up. i'm not seeing how the block can be warped but that point is moot. It sounds like they somehow blocked the oil Jounal or debree got in the journal to the camshaft. Usual failure mode after a HG from an engine being baked is a spun connnecting rod bearing. Also i question why you got a valve job, as soobys tend to rarely need one. Something stinks here. Document everything. Take notes, even on phone calls. Get everything in writing. MAYBE you will luck out by dealer #2, but i can tell you myself its hard to diagnose a failure when someone else has taken the failed item apart. Send an oil sample to a company that analyzes oil. They can help rule out causes. Explain to them what happened. Be prepared for a fight. Stand your ground, prepare for a fight. This is defanitly a failure due to oil starvation. An empty crankase makes for a very noisey engine, and wiped out bearings and possibly connecting rods. nipper
  13. ok i dont feel as bad then. as long as you found the source. My diagram didnt show the relay. nipper
  14. This is one of the things that can cause sway.worn bushings can cause suspension parts to move more then designed. Then add in to the mix alot of cars (including subaru i do beleive) has some sort of passive steeing in the back of the car though wheel movement.add all this together you can get sway. Since everything else checks out, i would inspect ALL bushings front and rear. Bushings are cheap enough to get a pair and replace any in question. Sometimes you cant get a true feeling for them untill you remove them. Some bushings have a steel sleeve inside them and can be a challange to get off. nipper
  15. the timing belt? if you truly mean the timing belt itself, i hope you didnt use those "marks". You use the marks on the cams and the crank pully only. And even those can be tough. nipper
  16. Here we go... There is an illumination control module that is the amplifier i was talking about. I would test the stalk by removing the trim on the steering column, dsiconnecting the harness that leads to it (do NOT touch anything if in doubt..as the air bag wiring is stuffed in there too). Airbag wiring is wrapped in colored tape so leave that alone. You have blue/red blk/red brwn/red coming from that rehostate. Using an analog meter, there shold be no opens and values should change as the dimmer is rotated. If that all works out its the illumination control module. nipper
  17. you dont know untill you try, but i would say at the very least get the under seat wiring, the switches, and the console wiring. Also CHECK to make sure the seat heaters arent electrically open, then its not worth the work. nipper
  18. No need for locktite if it is properly torqued. Thats the reason for the torque spec. If its a manual thats one way to do it, have somone stand on the brakes with the car in 5th gear to get rid of the mchanical advantage. There is a access hole in the bell housing for the ignition timing marks. You can lock up the engine there with a heavy screw driver or some other method. SOmone should chime in. nipper
  19. does the spark sem like it is happening at the proper time, and is it a strong blue spark. are the injectors firing properly. could be the engine temp sens for the ECU i am assuming you took the engine out to fix the heads, double check all your wiring nipper
  20. ill let you know after i read the wiring diagram, unless somone else wants to answer nipper
  21. you need fuel air and spark to run. DOes the car crank DO you have spark DO you have injectors operating DId it run b4 you replaced the HG How many miles on the car nipper
  22. sounds like the dimmer switch is bad. i dont know if its the switch, or an amplifier hidden someplace. Most stalk controlled items are not directly wired to the circuits as the load is too high. nipper
  23. From personal exp i agree 100% except for the french part. nipper
